Those with Steam Cleaners... - 05/07/09 06:52 PM

can you please help me out. I am wantng to shop around for the right one. I know alot of you use them to clean your cages (bar cages) and seem to love it and say that it cleans them extremely well.

1. What steam cleaner do you use.
2. How much is it?
3. What's the make/model of the steamer?
4. Where can I find it?
5. Any tips and tricks for using one on your cage?

That's all I can think of right now. thanks in advance for any help given!

I have an older one, I'd have to look at home at the make/model, but its a 50oz one, we use it for the cages sometimes, mostly when its too inclement to pressure wash outside, and I use it for other things in the house, including primarily the hardwood floors!

Sounds nice, thanks for responding!

Is there a certain amt of time to use it to make sure the cage is clean? For example, clean for x amt of mins or go over the cage x amt of times, if that makes sense.

LOL I thought you were talking about a carpet steamcleaner. You are talking about the steamers that get the wrinkles out of your clothes??????? I am interested in how you clean them. I switched to repts simply for the fact I HATED hauling cages out doors, and one of the cages I had was 5 foot wide and 6 foot deep, I couldn't do ti by myself!
I love the repts though, take them off then stick them in the washer and Ta-Da! Done in 40 min.

http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-500-Watt-Demand-Power-Steamer/dp/B000I618NY

This works really well for me especially on my avairy which is to big to take outside to power wash. there is water that drips but not bad at all.... i just put a plastic drop cloth under the cages when I use it.

lol Megan, yea I unfortunately cannot use repts because I have chewers that already showed in the 65 gal test rept I have that they will chew their way out! Boogers, lol. I'm talking about a power steamer, not the ones for your clothes.

Oh, thanks alot Janie. That sounds like the one I heard another member here talking about. I will read up on it!

I just got the Wagner 905 and I love it....it was around 70 on ebay wth another 20 for shipping but some people found them in their local costco....not here, trust me I checked...I had asked this same question on another forum and the overwhelming response was for this make and model...in fact, no other was mentioned....hth

I have a Conair compact. It comes in a blue box with some pictures on it. It works really good and it was only 30 bucks at JC Penny's. It steams for 30 minutes before it needs a refil. thumb

For tougher areas I use a plastic scour sponge and follow up with a washcloth. LoL.

GoGoGliders, that helps alot thankyou very much. I kept hearing about Waqner also but could not remember what model. By the way I forgot to tell you, they love their Tiki Cup! I'm trying to catch them to get a pic put those boogers are too fast, lol.

Ashley, that sounds like a good deal also! I will definitely look into Conair as well.

Thanx so much guys, you have been a great help!

I have the wagner 905, and I'm one of the ones saying "GO GET IT!!"...
I bought it at Lowes for 99.00, and it was worth it. Then my Costco DID get it in, so I bought it for like $45. w/ an instant rebate, and brought it UNOPENED to Lowes, and returned it w/ my original receipt! LOL

It's priceless!!!

mine has brush attachments, I leave t he cage surround on while I do the inside.. scrub gently with the steamer going, then wipe to remove what it loosened, repeat until clean.. I either have fleece under the cage, or a towel.. to catch drips.. and occasionally I do need more scrubbing, but not often.. it was worse when I fed a diet with a lot of honey in it (HPW/BML) than it is on my current diet..

Re: Those with Steam Cleaners UPDATE - 06/08/09 06:22 PM

Ok, I finally saved up some money and was able to get my steam cleaner. I bought the Wagner 905 power steam cleaner. I LOVE IT!!! It cleaned my cages really well. Eventhough it's more expensive than some others out there it was still worth it because other than cleaning my cages real well, I can use it to steam clean my bathroom and kitchen floors!

I can't stand the smell of vinegar and the vinegar & water mixture still left the bars somewhat sticky and stinky. I found a safe natural cleaner I used but it just was not good enough for me. My brats are extremely messy and Hugo likes to track HPW ALL OVER the cage shakehead roflmao
thanks for everyone's help and reviews on steam cleaners.
