I am from Howard Lake, MN. I live on a lake about 45 miles west of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I don't know anyone else who owns or breeds sugar gliders in Minnesota. Yes, it does get cold outside, but it's always warm inside!

Re: MINNESOTA - 03/05/04 06:40 PM

Hello Mag:

I noticed you posted looking for a Breeder in Minnesota. The only breeders that I have found are: Wendy Rohan in Duluth, MN e-mail []Arkcessories@yahoo.com[/] & phone 218-729-0019. She is a USDA Licensed Breeder. I bought a couple of my gliders <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" /> from Aaron @ Twin Cities Reptiles, they are very very hand tamed and sweet as can be. She does breed them also. The number there is 651-647-4479.

Good Luck in your search, hope this information helps. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: MINNESOTA - 09/12/04 06:44 AM

It is very hard for some reason to find sugar gliders in minnesota. I have found Mason Marsupials in Mankato and have a female on hold right now. I made her a website for a discount. http://misscreant.europe.webmatrixhosting.net/masonmarsupials/index.html
And could offer the same service to others.

If any one has any information on where to find a female sugar glider joey in minnesota, excluding arkcessories and mason marsupials, please share!

By the way I am from Andover tounge

eek, did you bother testing this with any browser but IE? Looks terrible, and being that IE is warned against being used by the government, it wouldnt be a bad idea to make it work with other browsers.

Re: MINNESOTA - 09/26/04 07:24 AM

HI everybody. I got my 3 gliders from Aaron at @ Twin Cities Reptiles in St. Paul, they are very very hand tamed and sweet as can be. She does breed them also. The number there is 651-647-4479. I stopped in around 9/15/04 and she had several older gliders for sale and a baby joey (boy) for sale. Hope you have luck. Oh also can anybody tell me of a good vet in the twincities for Sugar Gliders. I was going to the one in Golden Valley, but she moved to Montana. The clinic said that they are trying to get someone to take care of exotics. I have not heard back from them. Thanks

Re: MINNESOTA - 05/30/06 06:23 AM

Cedar is pricey, but very good (for hedgehogs at least). I seem to remember that theur estimate for neutering my male (Cooper) was somewhere around $270. However, it is always good to hear from more suggie guardians!

Re: MINNESOTA - 02/01/07 04:13 AM

Yeah, I went there the other day. They had one female for $250, standard gray. No Thanks! For that price, I'd rather ship them in from Priscilla, plus the diet they had her on looked like parrot food with a few grapes.

Hello, Lindsey! laugh Sure is a warm one out today, huh? wink

I'm wondering how many Minnesota people are still active on here and if there'd be enough to have a MN get together some day...
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: MINNESOTA - 05/21/07 08:32 PM

I would so be down for a MN get together! My hubby Nate and I live in Arden Hills, which is just north of the cities by Roseville, Shoreview, New Brighton and Columbia Heights (we're practically neighbors, Justine!). Our vet is Dr. Keith Hedges at Brighton Veterinary Clinic in, you guessed it, New Brighton. It was $80 apiece to neuter Pirate Steve and Lil' Ninja and the vet tech who assisted actually had seven of his own, most of which were neutered there as well. We got them from this breeder: http://www.terrispettingzoo.com/zoo/index.php and I have to say, all of the animals they have are sooo freakishly friendly. Even our lil crab butt Lil' Ninja came around within two months. Now he's just cranky if you startle him.

Hey, how many Minnesotans are planning on going to the Midwest get-together in Michigan? I was considering going, if only to get some awesome toys and pouches for my guys. wink
Posted By: Usha77

Re: MINNESOTA - 05/21/07 08:46 PM

Is your clinic listed in the Vet data base? I wonder if that's any closer to me than my clinic...either way, that's a much cheaper price for neutering!! How long ago were they neutered? Do you know what method they used? Does that price include everything like the take-home meds?? Sorry, I just really need to get my Lan neutered ASAP & Tas done before mid-July!

And do you mean the SGGA? That's the end of July, right? I wish I could go...but I've got a family vacation to Colorado that week... frown
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: MINNESOTA - 05/23/07 04:58 PM

I do mean the SGGA; I was too lazy to look up the exact initials. tounge Then I realized that it wasn't limited to the midwest at all and there were two separate events, one of which had already occurred. But yeah, the big SGGA is what I mean. grin

I couldn't find my vet on the database here, but it's Dr. Keith Hedges at Brighton Veterinary Hospital located at: 2615 Mississippi Street, New Brighton, MN 55112. The phone number is: (651) 636-1063. He specializes in bird and exotic care and our breeder recommended him to us. I don't think he used the most advanced techniques (I had a panic attack every time I thought about the guys having surgery, so hubby Nate arranged everything) because, despite Nate's assurances to me (grrrrrr), Dr.Hedges did wind up removing the poms and didn't advise pain meds as a necessary precaution, although I'm sure he would have given some if Nate had asked. Next suggies we have neutered, I will be working up my courage so that I can be more involved in the process and hook him up with a vet that can consult with him on more recent methods for glider vet care. He's pretty open to that sort of thing, but if he doesn't go for it, I will probably just take them to one of the other area vets.

The guys were neutered recently, in the first week of May, and did just fine. The first night, they just slept and the second, they wanted to play with each other but were cranky with us. Luckily they forgave us pretty quickly and Pirate wound up curled up asleep in my shirt and Ninja curled up on Nate's neck by about midnight. Now they are just as sweet as ever with us, but less territorial with each other. Hope that helps. smile
Posted By: Usha77

Re: MINNESOTA - 05/23/07 05:03 PM

Yeah, thanks! I'll probably just stick with my vet, since he's seen Lan so many times already (recheck on the tail amputation)...did you have to seperate the boys afterwards so they wouldn't groom each other or anything?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: MINNESOTA - 05/24/07 07:12 PM

I didn't want to separate them because I was worried that it might stress them and actually, staying together seemed to keep them pretty content. It really only was the first and second nights that there was anything different in their demeanor at all. Now it's as if nothing ever happened. They're resilient little boogers and I can only think that it helped them to have each other after the surgery. thumb

Re: MINNESOTA - 05/25/07 06:11 AM

Figure I'll chime in here so you guys don't feel like you're the only "Minnesotans" here! I live in Oakdale with the gliders and haven't even been patrolling the boards here for the past few months (just started a new overnight job and wanted to adjust without the care of the fur/quill kids suffering). But here I am once again after a fun time with the gliders out of their cage. Tonight, I got to watch two gliders trying to shimmy up a rope from opposite directions and get confused when they met in the middle, a silly little glider that decided to curl up for a quick bit of R and R in an empty drinking glass and have the tippy top of my head reclaimed as the best place in the world to look around from. It never gets old, does it?

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/04/07 12:40 AM

I'd love, love, love(!) to see a MN suggie gathering. I've done it before with hedgehog people and it is just incredible. And one benefit of it (other than the rampant socializing) is that in case of an emergency with your gliders, you now know of other local people that you can contact. When I'm talking emergency, I'm not talking about instead of going to the vet, but rather "been to the vet, now need to run to store to get some supplies, but don't feel safe bringing them into that strange, stressful environment" (yup, that would have been me when my two boys tried tearing out their sutures post-neuter!).

As far as locations go, I could always offer up my place in Oakdale. Its a townhome so not uber-big, but it would be large enough. We've had fondue-dinner parties of 6 easily in just the garage alone and we could definitely fit at least twice that inside. Another suggestion for a glider get together though would be just glider people (not gliders) meeting in a park somewhere for a potluck.

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/04/07 12:58 AM

I would also like a MN gathering! I'm in Lake City, it VERY boring here!
Posted By: cinnamonstix

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/05/07 01:03 AM

I am in South Minneapolis with my little girl and boy! We love our new suggie babies...a gathering would be awesome! So many suggie owners...and to think it was so hard to find my two... well to anyone wondering...Twin City Reptiles does carry suggies... last I seen they had a pregnant momma. And as for people mention the diet fed at TCR I have seen more than bird seed and grapes in the cage for sure. We are up at the store very often (I bought one of my Degus there) and being that they sell Brisky's pellets, I would hope that is what they feed rather than bird seed. But I have seen a nice fruit variety in the cage before at least.

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/11/07 09:38 PM

So...if we were to have a MN glider get-together, what would work for people? Would it be easier to do it after Labor Day so as not to conflict with as many summer vacations?

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/12/07 12:40 AM

Maybe sometime in September? I can open up my home in Oakdale for suggie people to gather in. Either the 8th or the 15th (both Saturdays) would work out great for me. What about everyone else? Or would another time, month, day of the week, etc. work better for others?

And what about a suggie related craft like everyone making an e-collar while we get together?

And Abby, you had better come! I want to hear all about how your little ones are doing...especially since they're not so little any more.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/12/07 01:44 AM

EXCELLENT!

I would definitely attend. Either day works for me too!

I think that is great that you are willing to host and working on e-collars or other glider related crafts is a great idea! clap

Would this be with or without the gliders?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/12/07 02:30 AM

I'm not sure. Any and all hedgie picnics I've attended have been sans hedgehogs since like gliders, they are sleeping while the people are socializing. So I've always just left mine at home and brought pictures instead. What does everyone else think? I thought e-collars would be fantastic to do since I just recently needed two and Usha77(Brenda) just needed one for her little guy. Having been to the place of panic and back, I think they should be like the gas can in the trunk of your car, hopefully, they'll never get filled/used, but just in case, you'll be glad to be prepared.

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/12/07 03:18 AM

Ill be there. I havent heard from you since forever. I e-mailed you alot in feb looking for a suggie sitter. How are Baby Boy and Cooper doing? I think if we get together Ill bring my suggies so you can see them cuz Im picture challenged. lol. Would it be held at a house or a park or what? Nail trimming might be a good thing to show how to do to. Maybe a little drawing for like a wodent wheel or sissy pouch. The boy never got his bald spot so you will have to show me how to tell them apart. I think the girl is the smaller one. I feel so dumb. lol.
Posted By: Usha77

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/12/07 05:37 AM

I think any and all of those ideas sound great! The e-collars sure get messy when you're trying to feed the little guys, I need to make a couple more now!

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/16/07 02:21 PM

I would love to attend a get-together! And I would definitely go if it was on the weekend, seeing as I would be a full time college student at that point. I don't really have a sugar glider yet but I am hunting for some and I might be getting a pair next month! I am so excited! I also have a sugar glider on reserve for Laura at The Suggie Shop. So whenever it is born I get it. lol I'll have to keep checking to see how the plans are going for this Minnesota get-together then!!

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/31/07 06:55 PM

we could make emergency kits of something like that.
Posted By: Usha77

Re: MINNESOTA - 07/31/07 08:17 PM

We're talking September, right? Either date works for me, as far as I know. laugh

Re: MINNESOTA - 08/07/07 03:19 AM

Either date works for me as well.

I like the E-collar idea and the emergency kits. I would also be willing to bring some of my gliders and demonstrate nail clipping if others are interested.

Cheryl with Cuddle Creations lives in Wisconsin, but would love to come meet other glider owners in the area. So I let her know about the get together as well. I figured the more the merrier! It could be a Minnesconsin Get Together! roflmao

Re: MINNESOTA - 08/09/07 11:14 AM

I want to go!!! Any idea when/where it will be? We should have some potluck or something too! Feed everyone...craft...exchange gifts...we could do like a dice game and everyone gets to go home with something...it would be fun!

(My suggie's daddy would be coming with too...but I know 1 pumkin pouch per family is fine by me...lol...you are sweet to offer bringing pouches for everyone Cheryl!)

Re: MINNESOTA - 08/09/07 01:57 PM

My babies' daddy would NOT be interested in coming! He thinks I'm crazy enough, I'm sure he'd have a breakdown or something with all of us slaves all together! hehehe Did we decide which weekend in September yet? 8th or 15th? Where will it be? I think it should be somewhere in the Twin Cities...hehehe... but I'm biased... wink

Yeah! Maybe we should start a thread about a "Minnesconsin" get-together...maybe more people would see that and reply? Then, in that thread we could try to hammer out the details? Just an idea! wink

Re: MINNESOTA - 08/24/07 04:13 AM

Minnesconsin get together to be held Sept 15th...come one come all...old and new owners alike. Potluck, games, gifts, demos, craft making...we have many thoughts and ideas in store...but we need more to attend! Come and sign up!

If you live in another neighboring state and want to make the drive to come...come and sign up...we just want people to come and Suggies are welcome...many of us so far already feel the need for them to come too!

Come and take a day away from the regular and come and eat, play, socialize, make some new friends, get a gift created by Cheryl, participate in a gift exchange game, learn a thing or two, show off your babies and have a blast doing who knows what else!

SIGN UP TODAY!

Re: MINNESOTA - 11/02/07 07:05 PM

Hi everyone! I'm located in Savage, MN. For those that don't know where that it I'd say I'm 5 minutes away from Mystic Lake Casino or 20 minutes south west of Mall of America.

Looks like I missed out on get-together. Let me know if there is a future one!

Also, does anyone know of any vets in the area?

Re: MINNESOTA - 11/02/07 07:10 PM

Hey! I'm in Chaska & I drive all the way to Lake Elmo (North-East of St. Paul) to go to Cedar Lake Pet Clinic for my gliders!

Re: MINNESOTA - 11/02/07 08:32 PM

Wow that's insane! Was that the closest you could find?
Posted By: Usha77

Re: MINNESOTA - 11/02/07 08:43 PM

I think there's some closer, like maybe in New Brighton...

Come on, other Minnesotans, help with Twin Cities area vets??? smile
Posted By: Usha77

Re: MINNESOTA - 11/02/07 08:54 PM

But Lake Elmo is really only about 45 minutes from my work in Chanhassen. And my emergency vet (which we've had to go to a few times) is Animal Emergency Clinic on University Ave in St. Paul... smile

Re: MINNESOTA - 11/10/07 07:08 AM

Hola everybody.
I live right in Minneapolis hooray.
Haven't got any gliders yet but should in time for the next Minnesconsin Get Together tounge

Re: MINNESOTA - 11/20/07 08:25 AM

Yup, I use Dr. Hedges in New Brighton for my gliders. I believe there are also several others here that use him as well. I've been pleased with Dr. Hedges as well as his staff.

Re: MINNESOTA - 11/20/07 09:12 AM

When I got my boys neutered, I did add a couple of vets to the database...check them out. I used Dr Hedges...he was very nice. Did well with my Degu when she was having her tooth issues as well. Very sweet guy.

***So when are we ready for the next get together? We have some new comers on here from MN...I find this SO exciting and one of them is actually a neighbor to me basically living only a few blocks away. It is so fun making new friends! LOL.
