I'm in Huntsville for another month or so. Then, I'm off to Shanghai, and my girls are off to TN with Yadgirl.

BTW - Spicey is doing much better. I found it very easy to give her meds after I tried mixing them in a small amount of food and using a dropper to feed them to her. Much less stressful on both of us.

I'm not in Alabama anymore (we're in Shanghai China for 2 years), but my glider girls are <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yelclap.gif" alt="" />. They didn't go to yadgirl. A friend of mine offered to keep them, so they are still in Huntsville <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif" alt="" />. Lord, I miss those little faces and little toes, and little smiles, and little sounds <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" />. I miss America, too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/upset.gif" alt="" />.

More later.

VET REVIEWS? - 09/15/05 04:15 PM

We recently moved back to Alabama. I'm originally from Andalusia, moved to Ohio for my M.A. and that's when we got our two gliders.

We're currently living in the Tuscaloosa area. I'd like to find out about the vets in the area, get some experiences from Alabama folks. I'm especially interested in neutering experiences/prices as I will be taking in two intact males in the near future and will need to get them neutered.

Hi Everyone:
I live in Birmingham, Alabama and would like to find a local breeder for Sugar Gliders. I currently do not own any gliders but have been doing a lot of research on them and have experience raising small animals. If any of you know a reputable, licensed breeder please let me know. Thanks!

Re: ALABAMA - 10/20/05 09:21 PM

Hi Glidermom:
Thanks for the info...I checked your website out also. Your Gliders look very healthy and happy. It will be several months before I can purchase two Gliders...if I decide to do it. I'm still waying the pro's and cons. They seem like great little pets. I'm thinking I might want to get a male and female and have the male neutered. What are the ages of your oldest Gliders? I have been reading a lot of literature about the possible negative effects of using Reptile vitamins with various diets. Have you had any problems with long term effects in your older Gliders from using the Reptile suppliments? Just curious. How often do you give the Gliders suppliments like Calcium and Multivitamins? I've read that some peopel are giving their gliders calcium rich Ensure...have you tried that? Thanks!

We've finished our two years in Shanghai, and are finally back in our old home in Huntsville.

I'm currently glider-less. We gave our two girls to a friend of mine, and she gave them to someone else in the area. She just couldn't deal with them.

I'm still thinking about getting back into gliders. Of course, it might be a good idea to get the house unpacked first.

More later,
Karen...

I live in Mobile, AL (Theordore area) where we have two male sugar gliders (Gizmo and Velcro).

I'm wonder if anyone in the Mobile area (or Gulf Coast region) would want to start a Sugar Glider club? Maybe get together once a month or so and just exchange ideas, help and support each other.

If you are interested, Please email me at: []wfryatt@muuf.com[/]

Hey Nancy, Glad to meet you. Now we just need to find a few more people that would like to get together and I think we can form a club. Probably nothing formal at this point, Just people that love <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" /> gliders <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" /> like us and want to learn and share our experiences with each other.

I have created a Yahoo Group (GCSG or Gulf Coast Sugar Gliders) to help keep us all connected if you would like to subscribe to the group the link is:

Thanks,

Re: ALABAMA - 02/07/07 04:46 AM

figured i'd chime in. i'm in athens, AL and got my first sugar gliders very recently (male from stac2goode and a female from someone in florence, AL)

i'm mostly into venomous snakes and when we get settled into our house this summer, i'd like to get back into exotic cats (siberian lynx, cougar, ocelot, etc).

i'm an animal nut and right now i have:

1.1 black/gray gliders
0.1 virginia opossum
1.1 bearded dragons (hypomelanistic female)
0.0.1 sulcata (african spur-thigh tortoise)
0.1 burmese python (albino)
1.0 nicaraguan dwarf red-tail boa
1.0 amazon tree boa (lavender phase)
1.0 ball python
1.2 timber rattlers
1.2 cottonmouths (western, eastern and florida)
1.2 copperheads (northern (blue phase) and southern)
1.1 venezuelan rattlesnakes
0.1 guianian rattlesnakes
0.1 malayan pit viper
0.1 urocoan rattlesnake (dark phase)
1.1 mohave rattlesnakes (california green phase)
1.0 western diamondback rattlesnake (pink phase)

probably forgetting someone smile

They are very addicting!!!

I have been into Gliders since the weekend after Hurricane Katrina. We went to the flea market to buy a bigger bird cage for our African Grey, and saw the Gliders there and have been hooked since.

Re: ALABAMA - 03/11/07 08:36 AM

Glad to see I'm not alone in Dothan. I'm going to be getting my little boy next Wednesday.

I also talked with Nicole @ Clark's Geckos tonight inquiring about a exotic vet in the area. She really impressed me, and after speaking more extensively with her I'm fairly confident that I'll be getting my next suggie from her.

I never would have even known that she existed except for this site. Thanks!

Re: ALABAMA - 03/11/07 11:10 PM

Wow, I didn't realize that there were so many people in Alabama with gliders! How exciting! Most people I talk to here think I am speaking a different language when I tell them we have them, LOL!

sorecho7280, you have quite an impressive collection! Me and my husband breed rare geckos, some of which are no longer known to exist in the wild and others that come from countries/continents that do not allow import/export of any native wildlife. We have about 30 different species we are working with now.

A big thanks to LizIvey and poolypop for the kind words! Like I have said a million times I have met some amazing people in the glider community!

The lady that bought them has been trying to find out about them as she does not want to interbreed. Wet Pets did not get the name of the guy just cash was exchanged? Maybe someone will see this post and reply. Hope you get your breeding license.

I am in Montgomery Alabama with 4 gliders that need names!

I want to name the 2 youngins sugarpie and honeybunch (ones a sugar and ones a honey lol) but my husband thinks that is stupid so now I am stumped cause that is stuck in my head!

I had only planned on the two but took in 2 adults because they needed a home and had just been dropped off somewhere. No clue what names they may have had... not that they pay much attention to them anyhow. So now I need to come up with names for 4.

Trying to get back into the swing of things here... (I lost a suggie over the weekend)

I'm really wanting to put together a regional club (Gulf Coast Area) or just a yearly get together.

Who would be interested?
Which should we do? Club (monthly meeting or yearly get togethers?) Maybe both? Start with a get together and form a club if there is more interest?

At last count there were at least 6 or so people that was interested.

As far as a meeting place, I could volunteer my house to start.

I'm sorry to hear about Badger hug2
I'm right here in Mobile , just give me a time and place and I'm in!!! dance

The more people we can get together the better. I think forming a club or at least a network of glider owner in the local region would be very useful.

I would suggest you start a thread in Special Events, you might receive more responses/interest (including from the surrounding areas). Good luck! thumb
