Re: INTERNATIONAL - 10/25/06 05:19 AM
Hey all. I don't have a glider yet, but I want to check on the laws in places I may find myself in one day. If I understand right, so far people in the UK, Nederland, Belgium, Malaysia, Australia, France, and South Africa have posted, so I asume they do or legally can keep gliders (sorry if I missed any). Does that mean the rest of the EU can as well, or is it one of the things each country decides for itself? Anyone know about Germany or India? Thanks, hope this finds everyone well

Re: INTERNATIONAL - 10/25/06 01:37 PM
I was told by a friend in Australia that possums (family phalangeridae, not US opposums which are family didelphidae) are a wild animal, and in many cases considered a pest :O There are also several species of gliders (yellow-bellied and mahogany) that are listed on Oz's endangered species list.

Re: INTERNATIONAL - 11/13/06 04:41 PM
I don't know for the rest of Europe, but in France, to buy and own a glider you need to have a license. But if you have acquired a glider before August 10th 2004, you can just declare to the veterinary authorities that you have gliders, and it's ok. But then you are not supposed to breed ...
I'm facing both situations: I adopted Icarus June 2001 so I'm allowed to keep him. I adopted Lima February 2006: I'm not supposed to keep her. Except that my boyfriend has the license to keep her

Re: INTERNATIONAL - 09/09/10 10:10 PM
Hi dudes and dudettes, Jacques from sunny Nelspruit, the city in the orchards and very close to the Kruger National Park in South Africa.
I have adopted / "rescued" a pair of SG's from their 3 year "jail" time. The poor things were fed on maizemeal and the occassional lick of yoghurt and fruit salad. How they survived that long I just don't know; just shows that SG's are real fighters and survivors.
Peanut and Pod is what we decided on calling them, LOL, as I discovered they love to be held in my hands like peanuts in the shell. It took us two weeks to get these vicious and ferocious animals (according to their previous owner) to bond with us.
Enough said for now.

Gliders are legal here. I'm in Ginowan City, Okinawa, Japan
Originally from California and Montana. But not living either place. Because the military stuck me here in Japan. Yay!

Re: INTERNATIONAL - 09/25/10 06:39 PM
Wow - Japan! I was an Air Force brat and we were stationed at Kadena AFB in Okinawa back in the early 60's. Is that base still there? I was VERY young
but have a few memories. I can remember playing with jellyfish on the beach - not sure why I didn't get stung. I also remember these huge burial crypts - I was walking along the top of one, fell, and split my head open. There were some caves we went to with piles of bones inside.
I would love to go back and visit some day!

To all, sorry a little late on most of you on this thread.
Hi everyone, I'm a 11 year old sugar glider owner and I live in Malaysia with my two suggies, Luna and Starlight (a 'rescued' Joey). My goal for my sugar gliders is to give them the life they always wanted. My own personal goal is to raise awareness on animal abuse, habitat loss, declining biodiversity, pollution, climate change, and unethical animal care with my dad, cousins and friends.
