What time is dinner time for the Fam?

Hello parents, just wanted to see what time do you feed your family of gliders? Right now mine wake up at about 7am and wake up to eat. I'm pretty sure it's because the previous place they would feed them at 8am.


Unfortunately I'm on a total opposite schedule and go to sleep at 2,3am and wake up around 1,2pm and would really like to get the joeys more on my schedule if that's possible. I hope it is because my schedule is pretty much on the nocturnal side of the day, and even joke to my friends that I'm a vampire since I hardly see the sun (which is horrible for my health)

I was going to adjust the feeding time by an hour everyday until we get to the right hours. That's my best idea so far
If anyone could give me their advice on shifting the joeys schedule at least somewhat close to mine would be great. Thanks again

I put their food out a 6pm. Mine are on their nocturnal schedule...

My gliders are nocturnal and I prep their food between 7-8pm while my human kids are prepping to go to bed. Then I place the food into their cages about 20-30 minutes after that. I will take them out of their cages for a few minutes to get in a few little pets or couple minutes of play and I give them a white chip (white baking chip) at that time or I will carry them in a pouch until around 10pm. They usually fully wake and are ready to move about between 10-11 at night and start grubbing and they will be up and down until 7-9am.

Since you're up at night anyways you may want to encourage play time an hour or so before you go to bed and feed them afterwards hoping they work up a bit of an appetite. Gradually make that time a bit earlier every couple days by 30-60 minutes. Maybe after some nights of this it can help get them back on their nocturnal schedule. Good luck.

Place their food in their cage around 6pm and leave it in there all night long and remove it in the am.

I try to get my furballs' food into their cage about the time I eat dinner so that it's there when they wake up. Mine will wake anywhere between 1930 and 2300, depending on the night & the glider (Arthur is almost always last). If there is anything left, I take it out before heading to work.

My gliders usually wake up around 8-9pm, so I try to have dinner in the cage before 8pm. They nibble on dinner and party in the cage all night. I get up around 5am, replace their dinner dishes with morning snacks (sunflower seeds or pellets), release the tiny beasties for an hour or so of out-of-cage play time, and then they happily curl up in their pouch for the day.

My babies don't usually get up before 10:30/11pm. I usually get out the food and let it sit for a bit to unfreeze, mix it, then put it in their cage. Since the room is warm, if I put it in about 10:30 it softens just when they come out to explore. Leota comes out first, eats a bit then goes for the wheel immediately, while Wicket pokes her head out for a minute, then goes back to sleep for a few minutes. She's very like me in the hitting the snooze button. Then she comes out and eats and relaxes for a while before running to join her sister. She likes the fleece vines more.
Most days I try to do tent time, so I will take them out around 8pm, they run and play, then go into their bonding pouch for a nap, so I'll carry them while I get their dinner ready. Then I'll pop them back in by 10/10:30 and they head to their sleep pouch so usually I just put it in and leave it. Most mornings it's almost clean. Usually they are awake when I am but when the light goes on heads pretty quickly into their sleep pouch, and seem uninterested until dinner that night.

I usually place their meal in around 7pm, but sometimes a bit later or earlier. They would probably prefer 6pm, especially Ollie who feels the earlier the better (I've seen him up as early as 4:30-5pm looking for food). With my work schedule, I do not get off work until 6, sometimes a little later and often do not get home till about 6:30 or later.

Wow looks like EVERYONE has their suggies on a nocturnal schedule. It's what their natural habitat is anyway so I would assume it's best for them too. Looks like the previous owners have it on a non nocturnal schedule. Does anyone have any advice on getting them to eat at in the evening like at least 6pm? it's a 11 hours difference from what they are used to know so I was thinking to start feeding them later in the day even though they wake up at 5am still.

the day before I feed them at 7am, and they woke up at 5am still and yesterday i fed them at 8am but still woke up at 5am. Any help getting this guys on the right schedule would greatly appreciated.



I totally would but they've been waking up like clockwork everyday at 5am and if I did that the food would be all dried out by then.

Try putting their food in a 6 pm and then waking them up. If you have to dump them out of their sleeping pouch so that they can see that their dinner is there.

It will probably take you a while to get them onto their correct sleeping schedule.

I agree with Feather. It's 13 hours into their sleeptime. They will be hungry at 5 am, maybe have some kibble in the cage for morning till they get back on their nocturnal schedule.

You might want to adjust the lighting to what they are used to. Just for dinnertime. Keep in mind while they are awake off and on during the night, they eat when they want to, but fresh food should only be left out about 12 hours for them.

I looked back at your posts to find out the age of these gliders because I couldn't remember.

They are still young so you shouldn't have much trouble getting them on their natural sleep schedule.It will just take a little time and repetition.

thanks for taking the time to look that up, and good news for me about getting them on a natural schedule. (i'm a bit of a night owl myself, so the nocturnal schedule is def preferred)

Yeh I think you are right about the lighting and it makes sense because i have them in my room with me and my room is kept dark with the shades down during the day and the light off usually during the day, then at night I have the lights on.

I guess I'll start opening up the shades so some light comes in during the daytime and when it's evening turn off my lights and keep it dark in the room, so they will hopefully come out then.
