Thoughts on cage heaters/heat lamps? - 04/27/15 05:29 PM
We live in the Chicago area and I am not sure what we should do, if anything in terms of keeping our new girls warm.
I am going to get a cage cover for sure, and I know that will help keep some heat in, but I am doing that mostly to keep light out during the day.
In the winter we keep our house at about 60 during the day and then ramp it up to 68 while we are awake at night, then back down to 60 while we sleep. The problem for us is that the thermostat is on the 2nd floor and right now we have the gliders cage on the lower level. It is ground level, but it is probably 5-7 degrees colder down there compared to near the thermostat. In the summer we will probably keep it about 76-78 in the house during the day, but at night while we sleep, and the gliders are awake we will drop it to 72-74 when needed. Again, lower temps in the lower level by the cage since cold air sinks.
Any thoughts on using a cage heater like this one?

I know I could also do a space heater, but not sure how much I like that idea.
Thanks for any input, just trying to do the right things for our new gliders.
