Newbie intro - 10/14/15 06:02 PM

Hi everyone!
My name is Jess and I'm a new glider owner, but have been researching for quite some time. A friend's son's girlfriend wanted gliders for her birthday two months ago and they jumped at getting a pair without any research, and two months later (Monday) decided they couldn't handle the responsibility (the sad story of most exotic pets frown ). Since my friend knew I wanted gliders, she called me. My husband and I decided to go for it since I just finished my master's degree (I graduate Friday, woo!!!) and have a much less demanding job than I used to (I'm a nurse, and now work a regular schedule m-f for the first time in my life), so I have lots of extra time to fill.
They got the starter kit from Perfect Pocket Pets (I know, bleh to them), so I'm looking now at what cage would be best to upgrade them to. I'm looking at the HQ flight cage from Petco- but I had read that the lack of horizontal bars made it harder for them- has anyone had a problem with this?
The previous owners also had them on the vita smart pellet food, so I'm switching them to the Critter Love diet- so far they LOVE it! Their fur isn't as nice as it should be, but I'm hoping the diet helps.

My new babies' names are Icarus and Camille. There was a movie I loved growing up called Little Nemo, and the main character had a pet flying squirrel named Icarus, and the princess in the movie was Camille, so that's the name inspiration smile
Idk how old they are exactly, I'm guessing around 4 months.
I've started the bonding process a bit, but have wanted to give them a couple days to adjust to the move (which was Monday). I'll start carrying them around in the bonding pouch tonight. I felt so bad last night, Camille crabbed at me for the first time, I felt so guilty that I had scared her frown
I'm so excited to bond with my new little furry pals! My husband and i just love watching them hop around in their cage- I can't wait to give them more space and toys!
If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!!!

The HQ flight cages are great! I have 6 of them. My gliders have no problems with the bars. Those little hands are stronger than you think.

My gliders are also on the Critterlove diets. Great diet have been using it since she released it to the public.

Welcome to GliderCENTRAL!

:welcome2:

First congrats on graduation! It feels great to finally be done I bet!

I have the suncoast sturdy cage, with hrizontal bars. The nice thing about the cage you are considering and mine are they are powder coated, which means the finish will last a very long time. I think the 'bumps' on the( hammered finish) powder coating gives a bit of grip too. Our girls don't slip at all.

We would love to see pics of your new little ones! ( after they settle in a bit more of course!)

Here are picture of my babies smile
I'm having trouble telling them apart, haha.

Venturing into the cage once we got home

He sure loves his peas (I'm pretty sure this is Icarus...)

I haven't seen this toy used at all since they got here, but she fell asleep in it tonight, and it was so stinkin' cute.

We had some bonding pouch time today and they seemed to enjoy it, they fell asleep in there after having some apple bits.
I'm just so enamored with them, I just want to watch them all the time smile

Hubby and I will stop wharever we are doing just to watch and interact with our babies!

The pictures are adorable!

Study the your gliders head stripe. One of them appears to have a wider stripe, to me.

Cute babies.
