How and where to place Stealth wheel

So at the moment I have a stealth wheel (with the stand) in my male glider's cage.
It's secured at the floor of the cage by zip ties. Is there an alternative for zip ties?
I have to replace them each week to clean the wheel as it gets very messy but It's getting expensive (i have many fishtanks as well).
I thought of using clips but won't the wheel move too much? If not what would be the safest clips to use?

I'm also confused about where to place the wheel; on the side or on the floor. I read accidents could happen on both when two gliders use the wheel. I'll be moving the female in with him soon and want to have the minimum chance of injury (regarding the wheel).

You can always tie it in with fleece strips. I use zip ties.

The best place to put it is on a wall in the center so nothing impedes its movement.

I like the idea of hanging the wheel on it's side but I've got one last question. Is it likely that the wheel hits a glider that is climbing up the wall and goes behind the wheel while the other is using it?
