Hanging water bottle in reptarium

Hanging water bottle in reptarium - 09/26/05 08:53 PM

OK I know a lot of you use reptariums, and I'm sure someone here has an absolute genius way of hanging a water bottle. I ordered a 260gal reptarium (YAY!) last night for my little guys as a permanent cage. When I had them in a reptarium travel cage this past week, I used a sock with a hole in the bottom of it and hung it with a ziptie. But that seems like it'd be a real pain long term. Any ideas? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

[:"blue"] I use the 260 repts are permanent enclosures for all three of my families and have tried several different ways.

I buy the water bottles with the little notch at the top with a hole so you can thread the wire that comes with it through the hole. Then I tie a shoestring over the top pole so it makes a large loop. I just hang the wire over the loop in the shoestring. The gliders have no problem getting to the water regardless of what height it is hung.

You can also string a piece of yarn or string through the hole in the water bottle and hang it from the pole. The only problem with this is refilling the bottle.

Some people have also posted they bought the water bottle that is intended to hang on the side of an aquarium and have bent the hanger part to fit over the pole of the rept.

Queenduck .... I think this is the best .... makes a water bottle holder especially for repts. [/]

Well, they are not on my site. I have only done it a few times, and that was for the raffle. But... I can make more. Send me a pm if your interested and we will see what we can do.

I attatched a picture. This is something I'll make if there is enough interest. Or, you can look at the picture and figure out how to do it yourself if you sew. All it is is webbing, fleece and a few o rings and a snap hook. I'll look and see if I can't find a different view in a minute.

The water bottle is one part, and these are my rept. hangers, also not on my site, but made when asked. You can see how they are used to hang pouches, toys, waterbottle hangers etc. They are also made ver easily with webbing, hook, and o ring. If anyone wants to make them for their own use and needs help, besides the pictures, pm me. I am still looking for a better picture.

BTW, the hanger just loops over the bars. There is a o ring sewn at one end of the webbing... then webbing of course.... then a snap hook sewn at the other end. So to usue it, you loop it over your bar, then slide to hook through the o ring and pull tight. And that's it. Make sure you hook will fit through the size of o ring you buy.

Oh awesome! Thanks so much! I think I could figure that out. I need to go get some fleece anyways. I'll have to pull out my mom's new sewing machine she got for christmas last year that's never been used. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

UHBribbitt , All the attatchments should work now. You can get the o rings, hooks and webbing at Wal Mart or most fabric stores along with the fleece. Just make sure when you sew the webbing, you use a needle made for heavy weight stuff, or you'll snap the needle in half. Then, use a lighter on the edges of the webbing to seal it, it will melt the edges only. That way it does not fray. Other than that, I can't think of any other advice.

We have done them for a long time. You have to make sure and check your water often because you can't see the levels.

So true. I did leave the bottom of mine open so you can see if there is any water at all, but.. you can't see how much is left, just that there is some. Just a good habit to check the water every night. I have OCD when it comes to the bottle, have to tap, tap, tap, the ball and make sure it's wet everytime I open the cage. Then I worry I forgot one, and have to go back <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Good reminder Sheila.

Queenducks goodies are the best! She is making me a complete set up for our rep. I am not very crafty...good thing my husband and I both work so we can spend lots of $$$ on our spoiled babies. Can't wait to get our goodies.

I don't have repts, but I have similar cages that are hard to hang water bottles in. I've attached a picture of one of my water bottle set-ups. Each of my cages water bottles is hung slightly differently because I was just using stuff I had sitting around...
