Baby Wipe Cleaning?

Baby Wipe Cleaning? - 04/22/06 04:08 PM

Ok, my babies can get pretty stinky, and I am thinking that part of the problem is that they get their food all over their little hands (They are on BML with added fruits and vegetables) and this makes the bars in theier cage all sticky and the stickyness just piles up more and more... I was wondering if maybe I could use babywipes or something just to quickly clean the sticky bars while they are sleeping so everything would be dry by the time they wake up.. Would that be ok? Or is there something bad in baby wipes?

You'll probably need to just clean the cage weekly. There's several good glider-safe cage cleaners on exoticnutrition.com and sugar-gliders.com.

I just take them out in their pouch during the day while they're sleeping, snuggle them up on the couch and take the cage outside and clean it thoroughly.

A lot of people use the clorox wipes to wipe down the cage every day in between the main cage cleaning. This is safe to do so long as its all dry before they get up to play <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumb.gif" alt="" />.

I use...dun da da dun! Hot water and a rag. I'm paranoid, what can I say. Even if I am 99.9% sure it won't hurt them...I'm still iffy...Then again I alos unplug my toaster in case it might catch on fire and I always put the beaters in the mixer before I plug it in as to not get electracuted sooo, not a good person to get advice from LOL. My grandmother struck the fear into me when I was really little about those things and I still can't get over them lol.

What about using them to give the glider a kind of a once over before you go out places? Not the clorox type of wipes but the natural ingredients type baby wipes? I am having to use a different zipper pouch each time I take them with me because the male, BamBam, just has an odor.

I wipe my cages down everyday w/ baby wipes and have never had a problem, I usually change the paper everyday, maybe every other and then do a real good cleaning about once a week and this seems to work well. I have a fairly small glider room so it could get really stinky if I didnt' keep on top of things, but it never smells.

I don't think that I would use the wipes on a glider. They usually do pretty good at keeping themselves clean. However, if they do manage to get food stuck all over them and it's beyond their ability to get out easily, the best thing to do is to get a warm, damp washcloth & wrap the glider in it. As they wiggle free, they give themselves a bath. Then all you need to do is keep them warm & out of drafts until they dry.
