Cold snap!

Cold snap! - 10/19/17 05:51 AM

The weather everywhere I'm sure has been a bit crazy... Harvey and Irma gave us a break from the heat wave, then Nate made it warmer and extremely humid. Now we're cooler. Which during the day is nice.

While hubby and I were working last night(Tuesday night ), we ran out of propane for the heater. It got down to 49deg. When we got home this morning the RV was 62deg. I checked on the girls and Dot was out, Fiona was in her 'private' (no Dot allowed) spot. They came right out of the cage, and dove into my hoodie. So, we went to the fridge for a mealie and they barely stuck their noses out to retrieve them.

So while hubby was switching tanks and getting the electric 'back up' heater out, the girls and I curled up in the recliner under a nice cozy fleece blanket and took a nap for two hours. Fiona woke me up squirming... She was thirsty . So hubby scooped them both up and put them back in the cage about 10am. They each got a drink and a final sip of their staple, and went to bed.

Tonight they seem no worse for wear, but I'm watching and listening just in case.

Dawn good morning!
49 degrees, ouch!. Temp control is my pet peeve in the RV life. I know that's a bad one to choose, but I can't help it.
So I feel your pain. I HATE running out of propane.

But the over here doodles never seem to care about the temp. I guess it's so snuggly in that pouch that they stay warm. Their tolerance for cold is better than mine. :-)

Hope things are going well out there...
In Seattle now and it's getting colder and colder and wetter and wetter. Got some doctor appts I have to hit or we would be gone already.
Stef and I are getting ready to move the menagerie to Quartzsite AZ for the summer. Gonna visit Slab City, check in with the eXscapers RV group...and get ready to meet the public!

And back to digging for Arizona gold BABY!
We will be fighting the heat and the dry, instead of the cold and the wet.

Gliders never complained to me about the heat before. :-)

In Washington, I learned how to drive a tractor! We will see how that serves me going forward. Hittin' 50 and still learning new tricks! Anyone need anything plowed? Or harvested? Or destroyed? (I'm especially good at that last thing)

Hey you know what? You guys need to move the Glider Talk and Traveling forum up to the top. And maybe rename it.
Currently it's where most of the "Social Interaction" on GC happens, and no one can see it buried down at the bottom.
And it looks like it's about Traveling With Gliders--as opposed to a general Glider talk area. People probably miss all the juicy good stuff because they pass over it.
Just my two bits. :-)
Be safe down there in hurricane land.

Yeah we had some cool weather suddenly in east too. We have yet to turn the heat on. WE had a few 50 degrees in the house (that not C) But the kids dont mind with their furry butts they just cuddle up in the pouches deeper and love shirt time in the morning

Hey Dawn! It sounds like you've definitely had a sampling of wild weather lately. Here in western Washington state, the grey sky and rains have descended upon us for the season, where they will stay until some time in early July.

I can relate to your cold experience! I'm still learning optimum usage of my RV systems, and my power availability changes depending on whether or not I'm plugged into TwoDog's rig to steal his solar power. I ran out of propane while we were sitting in the rain forest (where no sun hits the solar panels), and my furnace fan would die by morning on battery power if I didn't run the generator long enough the previous day.

I've woken up to a couple of mid-50s mornings inside, which doesn't seem to be a problem for Winky and Yoda. Their little paws are cold to the touch when they jump on me, and sometimes they go to pouch early if it's chilly, but that seems to be the only ill effects of the cold.

They're still mischief makers out of the cage at any temperature. wink

And I second the motion to move "Glider Talk" to the top of the forum for easier access. smile

The days here are in the 70's. We are under very tall pine trees which helped a lot this summer, and so far, when I flip it to the A/C during the day so we can sleep, it hasn't kicked in the last few days.

Stef and Two Dogs, I remember those rainy days from years ago. Hopefully it has started to put those fires out or at least controlable.

Safe journey back to the land of jumping cholla! Don't forget your hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen!

Since Irma played havoc to Florida, you may have more company in the SW.

Mechnut, may the first snowflake fall sometime in December! Lol!

I miss AZ, but never been to Quartzsite.

That's right, the East has been crazy, weirdly hot, then cooled down, warm up again, down again, oooops, no wait, it's up again! Well the mornings and evenings are cool, but warm in the afternoon. I hear their calling for a cold, snowy winter here, brrrr, I'll take the hot summers in AZ for their mild winters any day! Well, if I could frown My family is here, so here I will stay.
