Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/27/11 01:24 PM

I finally noticed this thread about 2 days ago. It took me a while to read from the beginning till today to finally catch up.

First off I want to say WOW this community rocks. I just love all the caring and supportive people that are on here. This is why I joined this forum. smirk

Second: Brandi, you are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this with Simba. hug2

When I first started reading about Simba, I will honestly say I was crying and had to wipe my eyes a lot to continue reading. I would read, cry, wipe my eyes and pray then back to reading. Brandi, you are such an awesome strong lady and wonderful mom to your babies. (In my next life I want to be a sugar glider and have you as my mommy)

Simba, I am thinking and praying for you every day that you recover from this and that you will soon be back with your wife. Brandi, I am sending hug2 prayers and thoughts your way as well.

Thank you for sharing the heartwarming photo's of your babies. They are so precious. mlove

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/27/11 04:44 PM

To a given degree, I concur with the concept of going ahead with the amputation and moving forward with healing and the happy reunion. The only thing that I'm thinking about Brandi (and I'm sure both you and your vet are looking at things from this angle as well) is that Simba needs a little time to build up some strength. He's been through a LOT here of late, and needs a little recoup time before his body is assaulted by yet ANOTHER invasive procedure.

On the flip side of the record, if he is getting depressed from being away from his family and not eating, this can't be ignored either. It's going to be harder to get his strength built up if he's refusing anything you give him.

You're in very good hands between Mary, Bourbon, and your vet. Know that I'm sitting in the "cheering section" with many others here on the board, praying that there's a good prognosis SOON for Simba. hug2

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/27/11 08:41 PM

Hey all! Just got off the phone with Brandi. Last night and this morning, Simba was favoring his butt a bit and seemed to be hurting. She took him in to the vet this afternoon and what happens just as soon as she gets there? He prolapsed. frown But, right in front of the vet tech so at least it happened while she was there!!! The vet is going to examine him again this afternoon and make the determination of where they move from here. Simba will either go home with the vet tonight (Brandi and I both think it's just because he's gotten attached to Simba and wants to keep him...lol) or Brandi will again get him for the night and bring him back tomorrow.

Sorry for the short update, but that's the gist of things right now. As soon as I hear from Brandi again I'll post again.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/27/11 10:01 PM

I'm still praying nightly for you and little Simba....the penile amputation might be the best choice for this baby, but Denise makes a good point, not until he's strong enough to get through it. Your vet is doing a wonderful job! We're all pulling for the both of you, get well please Simba, mommy loves you so!

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/27/11 11:04 PM

Brandi just texted me and said Simba definitely needs to have surgery in the morning. Of course, it has to be two days BEFORE payday, so she's scrambling to scrape the money together. I suggested a post dated check but she said that's against the law in FL now.

Anyone have any ideas for her???
Posted By: Cora

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/27/11 11:09 PM

can she get carecredit?
Posted By: DirtyPaws

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/27/11 11:33 PM

If she can't get CareCredit maybe she could write a check dated for the day of the surgery and the person who takes the deposits to the bank just 'forgets' to take it til payday. Not REALLY a post-dated check.

This vet's done so much for her already surely they would do this for her.

Maybe they would need to know if she has direct deposit etc. or maybe a statement from her employeer that payroll has already been started for her for enough to cover the costs of the surgery & that she gets paid on 'x' day.

There HAS to be a way.

In the morning is Thursday. Assuming her payday is Friday they'd only be leaving her check out of one deposit depending on when they go to the bank. If they go in the afternoons her check only gets left out of deposits for one day. Then deposited on Friday ~ if that's her payday. Not sure how fast that vet's electronic checking is but most places I write checks I could write the check on Thursday & it wouldn't even clear before Friday payday. But I do know that some are zippity quick right out of your account.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 12:10 AM

I was going to say Care Credit too, I think they have 6 and 12 month intrest free plans, where as long as she pays off the balance in that amount of time, there's no interest added....even if she got the 6 month plan and paid maybe $75 a month, surely that would cover the cost of the surgery....

Connie, if not, PM me, I have an idea....in fact, Aimee or Brandi can PM me too if the Care Credit is not an option....

So glad to hear that! Hoping for a successful surgery tomorrow morning and a FAST recup time (if that's possible). Don't let that vet steal him- LOL! Sounds like he's already stole his heart! heart

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 01:04 AM

With Simba, it's easy to fall in love with him! He was a rejected joey and Brandi hand raised him. Rejected joeys grow up to be exceptionally spoiled and closely bonded suggies!
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 01:24 AM

Connie, Don't forget Eric helped hand raise him too! Remember my blackmail picture? roflmao

I'm trying to get Simba to eat something. The vet said to try to get him to eat and drink at least a little, but no food after midnight.
He isn't wanting anything to do with his food. Any suggestions on how to get him to eat? What if I dipped his fruit and veggies in honey? He just needs to eat something. He barely touched his food last night, hasn't eaten at all today, and probably wont be eating tomorrow.
Posted By: DCMuffin

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 01:28 AM

Honey would be okay...or dipping in yogurt? Scrambled egg? Chicken?
Posted By: suggiemom1980

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 01:31 AM

Vanilla ensure, organic peanut butter.

Why doesn't he want him to eat after midnight? Gliders have such a high metabolism, they can't go that many hours without eating. When mine go in for a neuter or any other surgery that has been needed, they are allowed to eat up to two hours before surgery.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 01:57 AM

You might have to syringe feed him Brandi.
Posted By: DCMuffin

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 01:59 AM

Oh gosh, Simba would just HATE to be syringe fed, right Brandi? smile Poor little baby.
Posted By: minkasmom

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 02:09 AM

Baby food mango, mixed berry yogurt, Hawaiian Delight baby food...MARSHMALLOWS!!....any damsel flies being attracted by the evening porch light? (some call them "skeeter-eaters", they look like HUGE mosquitoes)...how about looking at flowers that haven't been sprayed/powdered with insecticides or fertilizers?...do you have any glider-safe houseplants that you might be able to entice him to nibble on?

I'm sure that he feels your stress levels and your desperation to get him to eat something.....the harder you try to force him, the harder he's going to resist.

(a lot of vets have this mind-set, Connie: they transfer what they learned in school about larger animals such as cats/dogs having ANYTHING in their stomaches pre-op and apply the same concept to our micro-mini animals... shakehead )
Posted By: Cora

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 02:35 AM

If he can be syringe fed and wont eat then awesome he needs to get stronger fast so syringe him. I have to disagree with the ensure in this case because if he is not eating and drinking enough it could turn to clay in the intestines and then he would have more trouble. smile

Thanks, Cora! I thought ensure was an issue only if there was dehydration present.

Sending more prayers Simba's way. I hope the surgery goes smoothly tomorrow.

I agree syringe feed him, mash up some avocado, add some green juice to liquify it.

Feed him anything he will eat even if it is junk food, calories are calories at this point.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 03:42 AM

Kimberley is right, junkfood it up as long as he eats it and it's not toxic...what about plain cooked chicken and any kind of babyfood????

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 04:36 AM

She has. She has tried all the foods he loves and all the foods he doesn't. He just plain doesn't want to eat tonite. She's watching over him closely and will take good care of him and hopefully she can try again in a while to see if he'll take something.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 05:28 AM

I ended up giving him supervised visitation with Izzy and Nala hoping that would help. It's not like the visitation is going to hurt him any more. He has already prolapsed. I made sure they didn't mess with his rear. After he had visitation I immediately tried to feed him again. He did take a little more of the glidershake but thats it. I think I will leave the glidershake in his incubator tonight. The vet said no foods but didn't say no liquids. I made sure it was diluted a little so it wont be too creamy and thick. If he will drink some of that then that will at least get a little nutrients and vitamins in him before his big surgery.
I think I will let him see his family again in the morning before I take him to the vet. Maybe it will help him mentally and he will do better during and after his surgery?

She said it'd be OK if I updated to ask everyone for prayers right now - I am texting with her right now. She is in the parking lot just having dropped him off trying to stay calm, they were all ready for him when she took him in. They let her give him lots of kisses and then took him back. She said he tried to crawl down her shirt when she took him in - it's like he knew frown Hopefully, with lots of faith, love, and prayers, he's going to pull through this surgery and be on the road to recovery. Maybe this will be the massive relief he's been needing. Brandi and Simba need all the love, support, and prayers everyone can muster right now, especially right this minute while he's in surgery!

Praying for you little Simba........

Just got a text from Brandi!

He made it through surgery ok. He had to give him stronger pain meds because he was really hurting. So he's a little sleepy right now. He was able to get him to eat some mealies. He also gave him more sub-q's. I go pick him up at 5:30 and he can spend the night with me but I have to bring him back 1st thing in the morning. He wants to watch him all day tomorrow.

Oh goodness poor baby.. been thinking about this little one today. So glad he pulled through surgery. The vet probably didn't want to give news until he knew what kind of news he had to give.. which you never know until they wake up from the surgery and all.. had the same issue with our dog when he went into surgery.

I'm glad he's made it so far. He sounds like a tough little guy! I have much faith in him! Prayers and good thoughts and hugs for you guys!

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/28/11 11:17 PM

OK, Brandi is home with Simba; she was nervous I know about getting home because she wanted to beat these crazy storms that everyone is experiencing! Unfortunately, the vet thinks he's going to have to wear the e-jacket for the rest of his life frown. The e-jacket has to stay on fulltime for the next 2 weeks, and then after that, Brandi can give him short supervised breaks from it, watching to make sure he doesn't SM. If this is what keeps this peanut safe, then that's what shall be done.

He is on the pain med Metacam and the antibiotic Batryl and is pretty loopy right now. He will be on the antibiotic for 10-14 days. He chirped though when Brandi gave him his "Nala blankie" smile He's being such a good, strong little boy, and Brandi is so happy to have him home with her for the night! Brandi can do short supervised visitation with his family, which is wonderful :), it will help keep Simba's mental health going in a positive direction. This supervised time can be increased everyday. Once everyone can be together without the girls trying to groom and "fix" the site, Simba can go back to his family permanently!

The vet will watch him closely over the next week. He has to go in first thing in the morning tomorrow, but if all goes well tomorrow, he won't have to keep going back to the vet for the whole day anymore smile He'll just need to go in for check-ups. If he doesn't start eating better, he's going to have to keep going in for sub-q's and b12 shots, so lots of prayers are needed that his appetite picks up!

The vet also said to let him eat whatever he wants right now, even if its a bunch of mealies. Simba just needs to get SOMETHING in him to help the healing process start. Once he starts healing, Brandi can focus on getting him back on his regular diet.

Please keep the prayers coming, as Simba is going to be pretty sore and out of it from the pain meds. Thank you to everyone who has been checking in and sending prayers, I know that Brandi and Simba both appreciate it very very much! Someone will update regularly in case Brandi can't get on here while taking care of Simba....

I am also going to continue praying for him that he will not have to wear the e-jacket for the rest of his life and will prove the vet wrong. Go Simba. I am sure your mommy will feel alot better when you are well enough to be back with your family. Brandi you are an awesome mom.

Just got home and went straight to this thread - Sooo happy to hear that little Simba made it through his surgery and is able to be home for the night! I'm sure just being able to be with Nala and Izzy for a short time tonight helped him so much emotionally. Hope he continues to eat his mealies tonight and continues to gain strength and heal throughout the night, tomorrow at the vet's, and hopefully home after that.
SIMBA- you are SO strong! And so is your Mommy! My two cents: he is one happy glider to have such a strong will to live!

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/29/11 06:00 AM

Hey everyone! Sorry I'm just now getting on here. Today has been soooo stressful! I was a nervous wreck waiting to hear from the vet about how Simba's surgery went today! (thanks for posting the update for me Jess)
I sat by the phone ALL day waiting and waiting to hear something! Then when I was finally told i could come get him it took foreeever at the vet's!

I'm so glad to have him home now! I'm trying to get him to eat right now. The vet said if he doesn't eat not to give him the pain medicine because it can cause stomach bleeding. Hopefully he will eat a little for me.So far all he has eaten for me was one piece of corn. I don't know how much he has to eat until it's safe to give him the pain meds. I should have asked the vet but I didn't even think about that.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers for my little man! Keep sending them so hopefully he will heal up fast from this. I really think now that he had the amputation he will be able to finally heal and get back to being himself again!

I really hope that he doesn't end up having to wear the ejacket for the rest of his life, but if he does I will still love him. I'm SO glad that Denise sent me the ejackets! I am forever grateful for her doing that! Simba actually has scabs from that ecollar he was wearing!
The vet does think he may end up having to wear it forever. He said since Simba has been so traumatized and he is also one that likes to groom a LOT he will most likely continue to mess with the area forever. Thats what he has seen in gliders like Simba and most haven't been through as much trauma as he has. He said that vets used to think that when they did that they had some type of nerve damage. Like when your foot falls asleep and then starts to tingle. So they would do laser therapy on them to try to help. It wouldn't help and they would keep doing it until finally they realized that it was more psychological not actual nerve damage. (I'm sure there are a few that may actually have nerve damage from whatever they have been through).
So for now I am going to go ahead and plan for him to have to wear the ejacket long-term. I want to talk to Cora about it since she has been dealing with Spencer wearing one for a few years.

Simba has also lost weight. He was around 160grams before all this started. Now he's down to the 120's. When I saw him with the ejacket off today it didn't even look like him! You can definitely see he has lost weight. Hopefully he starts eating soon so he can get back to where he was. I'm just glad he was a bigger glider because if he wasn't then he would really look anorexic by now. He had some fluff to spare so that really helped.

I'm just THRILLED to hear that Simba has made it through the procedure with flying colors! clap dance jump Yes the healing process is going to be a long one, but he's on his way.

I'm also very happy that I can help to make a difference in the life of gliders like Simba and Spencer...it's a concept that took TOO LONG to get started, but helps improve the quality of life to levels that make me leaky with tears of joy.

Count on the prayers and wishes for a fast recovery coming from me and all of mine here....and any time that the e-jackets start to show wear, I'll EXPECT a message of some type that I need to send another care package your way! hug2 Also, if you need more "Nala blankies" you can believe that I have HUNDREDS of them in my stash and will be glad to assist in that regard.

Continued blessings I shower upon everyone under your roof.... mlove

Brandi sweetie you are going to have to force feed him BML or HPW with syringe. You have got to get him started agin. Thats what I was trying to get at the other night. But I said syringe feed, not force feed. It is time to force feed. I am here and will be here anytime you need me. Spencer has been a mutilator since Jan 08 on and off. He wore an ecollar up until last July when an angel came to the SGGA wth the jacket, he could use his hands, I was crying, The jacket allows so much freedom!

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/29/11 02:19 PM

I had a really bad night with Simba. He was in a lot of pain. He was crying when he tried to go potty. He pooped but never would pee. He also had two blood drops after he pooped. I kept trying to get him to eat but he only ate 2 pieces of corn for me and a lick of glidershake. The vet had told me if he doesn't eat not to give him the pain meds but after he ate the corn I just gave it to him. I felt SO bad for him! I just wish I could take his pain away! I'm going to ask the vet to give him something stronger for the pain. The bupronex they gave him when he was in so much pain after the surgery seemed to make him more comfortable. I'm going to see if they will give me some to give him at home.
(Cora, when I get back I'm going to send you a pm. I would like to talk to you about force feeding and other stuff.)

I'm leaving now to take him to the vet. I am running late this morning since I was up most of the night. I'll try to give an update soon.
Please keep praying for my little man!

as for the jacket, Brandi and I talked a while ago, and this is something I tried to prepare her for. we know the risks of trying to get the glider out of a jacket (in the past it was an e-collar)and believe me, the jacket is a much better alternative.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/29/11 03:33 PM

I just got back from dropping him at the vets. He is in SO much pain! he cried the whole way there and when we got there! I just kept telling him we are almost there and then they can help you. He is also bleeding again. I told them to give him something stronger for the pain. The metacam just isn't helping.
I hate to see my baby hurting so bad. I wish I could do something to help him. cry

I'm waiting for the vet to call me. I'm sure he will need to do more sub-q's since he's not drinking much. I'm going to go grocery shopping and try to get as many things to try to give him as I can. If you have any suggestions on what else I can try let me know!

He didn't get any visitation with Nala and Izzy this morning. He was just in too much pain. He got a little last night when I brought him home, before he started hurting so bad. Hopefully the vet can get his pain under control so they can see each other again! Nala and Izzy have finally started eating better and acting a little more like themselves since they have been getting to see him.

Get the ingredients for BML water it down draw it up in a syringe and push 1 cc slowly every 2 to 3 hours. If you can push 2cc then every 4 hours.

The vitamins are at the pet store, the wheat germ is in the cereal isle at the store, the yogurt juice is in the baby food section of the store. I think you can find everything else, if not text me at 903 808 1142, go ahead and save my number in your phone.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/29/11 04:03 PM

and you may only be able to get half a cc down him at first so thats every hour or so. then gradually go up as he gets more accepting. He needs buprenex for pain I agree about that.

Thanks so much Cora! I'm going to pick that stuff up and get it all mixed and ready so I can give it to him as soon as I get him home, which will hopefully be today!
I'll let you know if I need the video. I'm pretty sure I understand how you told me to do the force feedings. If it doesn't work I'll let you know. I'm only used to doing little joeys. This should be interesting! Lol

I am just ready to wake up from this nightmare! I really hope that no other glider or glider parent has to go through this ever again!

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/29/11 04:48 PM

Hi Brandi, I know you don't know me but I have learned alot about sick gliders not eating & needing force fed. I just wanted to say that Cora is absolutely right on forcing his food & I'm sure she's telling you all the right things including how to hold him when he doesn't want anything to do w/that syringe in his mouth. It may be the hardest thing emotionally for you ~ to do to him what he may fight off. And you will probably get frustrated when he won't take enough, but keep @ it the way Cora said & it will get easier. hug2

I've never been so scared as when I was hand feeding 2 day oop babies that would not take what they needed. But that's different as they can only hold so much @ a time. But, @ the same time, it can be very emotionally & physically draining to know how important it is that a glider eat when he won't.

You've come so far you have only "up" to go now. hug2

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/29/11 04:55 PM

Feeding joeys is hard but dealing with an adult is just so different! I had issues just trying to get the medicines in him! Ive hand fed and force fed joeys but they don't bite and fight you much. Just trying to force Simba to take his meds made him SO upset with me! I felt like a monster even though I knew he had to have them. I cuddled him afterwards to show him I still love him. I just hope he doesn't hold all of this against me forever.

I am going to do my best with force feeding him the bml. I know he must get something in him or I will lose him. If I have to put a straight jacket on his little furry butt and duct tape him to the table to keep him still I will! Lol (i'm joking about the duct tape of course, but I will try anything at this point!)
I just can't wait for him to be 100% again!

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/29/11 05:21 PM

I know. You need 3 hands! 2 to hold him where you won't get bit & 1 to feed him with. With enough fleece squares you'll figure out the way that works best for you. However Cora's showing you & then whatever you need to do to try to keep ahold of him w some fleece covering your hands & still have a good hold of him.

My very 1st glider came to me UNABLE TO BE HANDLED. Striker! Like a cobra. And when she bit she sunk in all the way. And she was so stressed we assume from all the rehoming in such a short period she was shredding fleece. On a daily basis I had to burrito wrap her & methodically pull all the fleece out of her teeth! I figured out real quick how to keep my hands covered! My bottom fingers wrapped around her lower body & my thumb & upper fingers wrapped around her upper body & held her head in place. She was wrapped tight & I had fleece laying across my hand before I grasped her. My family said it was the scariest thing they had ever seen. She couldn't move her head but she wanted to EAT ME! I'm so glad she came around & those days are over!

Brandi, we have been silently following this thread since the beginning. Just wanted to say that all of us (me, MrsBerg and our gang) are pulling for Simba and you. I don't think he will hold all of this against you forever. I'm sure Simba knows that you are trying to help him and take away his pain. He may be mad at you at the time (just like a little kid with his parents smile ) but in the long run he knows you are the one that loves him.

Hang in there.

Just got a text from Brandi. Simba is doing badly. She's on her way back to the vet, where he has to stay all weekend. She said she would explain later. It sounds like we need to all send strong prayers and positive thoughts. worried frown

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/29/11 09:53 PM

That's right, Connie. She called me earlier and has just sent me a text, asking to update.

Come on people, we need your EVERYTHING now!!!

As you know, Brandi took Simba into the vet earlier today because he was in such pain. After examination, he found that Simba was throwing clots. Meaning...the doc found a clot in front of Simba's urethra. He cleaned that out and just after he did so, he threw another. frown At this point, we don't know WHY he is, whether it's an infection or what, but the doc is going to consult with yet another doctor and from there, determine the course of action that needs to be taken. If he continues to throw them, he will require yet another surgery that is very difficult and very dangerous. They will try to do everything they can BUT this surgery because it's obviously not something they WANT to do, and poor little Simba's body has just taken so much over the course of the last week. The vet will be taking Simba home with him this evening, Brandi has provided him with food and will be bringing BML, as well.

Brandi's cell phone is almost out of juice and she isn't sure when she'll get to her computer so please, just keep the thoughts and prayers coming. They are desperately needed.

I have so much respect for Brandi and how well she's dealing with this. I was texting with her at 3am last night when she was trying to decide whether the corn was enough to be able to give him the pain meds....she's doing such an amazing job and I know that Simba loves her all the more for it, even though he's not happy with her at times.

I got off the phone with Brandi a little while ago and she's such a strong person, it's inspiring to me. Simba needs all the prayers he can get, I'm just glad his pain is under control. I have little reminders all over my house, little notes reminding me to say a little prayer for Simba when I see them smile Everyone keep the prayers comin, Simba has made it this far, he's just GOT to come out of the other side of this happy and healthy and reunited with his family!

I will be praying with everything I have for a solution and a painless and speedy recovery.

Simba and Brandi you have all my thoughts, prayers and hugs.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/30/11 06:43 PM

Simba Update:

I just got a call from the vet. He said that Simba did throw more clots last night but since around 10pm he hasn't had any more. He did have a little blood in his urine around that time as well. He said that he is going to keep him through the weekend and if he does well and no more throwing clots that he will allow him to come home with me next week.
He said that he is very concerned about this. He is worried if he continues to throw clots that one will end up causing him to stroke or go to his heart or lungs. He said if that happens there will be nothing more we can do for him. He is really hopeful that he will make it through this. He is doing everything he can to save him.
He was able to get him out of pain and make him more comfortable with pain medicines. Once he was out of pain he said that Simba was walking a little and he got him to eat some melon and pineapple. He is only taking small amounts of water when the vet gives it to him with a syringe. He wont take it any other way. The vet said he will continue to give it to him with the syringe. He said he really doesn't mind it, he actually enjoys doing it. He told me he was stable for now but he is worried because every time he tells me he's stable something else happens. So he is being very cautious with saying that.

He did leave a message for the vet that is caring for Simba's son. Simba's son just recently threw a clot in his foot during surgery and my vet is wondering if this clotting stuff could be because of a genetic blood disorder. Hopefully that vet will get back to him soon. He is also looking into how to test gliders for blood disorders and what to do if they have one. He has never encountered a glider with these issues before and he is trying to find out as much as he can to help my little man. I really respect my vet for admitting he doesn't know everything and being willing to learn what he can, even if he has to contact other vets for help. A good vet is not above asking for help when they are unsure of something!
The clotting problems Simba is having could be from a few different things. My vet is determined to find out what the cause of this is. If it does turn out to be genetic then I will contact as many people as I can that have gliders related to Simba. They will need to notify their vets that this could happen to their gliders so they can be extra cautious. It may never happen but it's better to be prepared for if it does. Hopefully it's not genetic, but if it is I will do my best to alert the Simba line. I may need some help doing it though.

I think the vet is falling in love with my little man. Of course, it's hard to NOT fall in love with him if you meet him in person! He said that Simba has been very curious of the people and animals in his house. He doesn't let him near the animals but he likes to watch them and shows no fear and he tries to get the people to give him attention. Lol The vet has been carrying him around on him constantly. It's a good thing Simba already knows the vet and likes him. If not he would have been so stressed being with him over the weekend!

The vet said that he will try to give me two updates a day on how Simba is doing and if anything happens he will contact me as soon as possible. I miss my little man SO much but I know he is in good hands and getting the best care right now. It's best that he is with my vet at all times while we get him through this. Keep the good thoughts and prayers coming! My vet said that if we can get him through this he really thinks he will start healing up and be ok.

Re: Penis Problem Please Help! - Part Three - 04/30/11 06:49 PM

Maybe he can get in touch with some of the consulting vets and see if they've experienced blood disorders in gliders and if so how to test for such disorders.
Continuing to hope and pray for the best!

Thanks for the updates, we are all so worried about Simba. hug2
I don't know if it is possible for gliders to have human issues, but my husband has a heredic ( can't spell today ) clotting disorder that it took us years to find out the problem. Mayo Clinic couldn't even find it, but the VA did when they were trying to rule out agent orange issues. Anyway, it is called Factor 5 Lieden syndrome. Once my hubby got the diagnosis, we had everyone in his family tested. His sister, and daughter have it and our daughter is a carrier for it. They can throw clots for no reason. Hubby will be on blood thinners for life, but has had NO other clots, and is a mechanic at a mine, so he gets hit and hurt alot.
