Any updates on Simba?

Hey everyone! I'm sorry I haven't been able to get on here and post myself. My laptop and my phone have both been acting up.

I am taking Simba to the vet this morning. He's going to sedate him and examine him to see what is going on. He had a little more bleeding. It wasn't too bad, just a tiny amount. I think it is happening when he poops. Hopefully Dr.Pat will figure out what is going on with him. Other than the bleeding he seems to be doing a little better. He ate a little better last night for me. Still not as much as he normally eats but he's slowly getting there. Hopefully he will start gaining weight soon. I did get him some avocado. I don't know why I didn't think of that to begin with. I just rarely give it to them since it's so fattening. Hopefully it helps!

I gave him a few minutes with the ejacket off the other day. He enjoyed it. I gave him a good body massage and scratching. He started licking me like a dog while I was doing it. It was pretty funny. Then he went crazy grooming himself. I kept a close eye on him and let him do it until he went for his cloacal area. Then I put the jacket back on him. He wasn't happy about that! He fussed at me then pouted. I gave him some mealies to try to cheer him up. They seemed to work. He gave a little half chirp then realized he forgot he was supposed to be mad at me. LoL

I will try to give an update once I hear from the vet today. I really hope he gives me some good news.

I want to say thanks for the continued support and prayers for my little man. I want to also thank the angels that have helped with his medical bills. I don't know what I would do without the wonderful people on GC! Simba says thank you too!

I'm so happy to hear the update. Not happy about the bleeding, but I'm so happy to continually hear how much better he's doing in comparison to the update it is following.

Update from Brandi:

Brandi picked up Simba at 4pm on Wednesday. The vet had anesthetized (spelling is horrible, sorry) him and examined him. He did find another clot, but this one wasn't as big as the ones he was having. Thet vet is still concerned about the bleeding issue, he doesn't know what's causing it.

As of right now, he's been about the same since Brandi picked him up from the vet. He had a tiny amount of bleeding tonight, but not as much as he was having, so Brandi said hopefully it's slowly stopping....

Keep the prayers coming, he seems to be SLOWLY improving day by day....

OK, update time. Brandi is still having trouble with her computer, so she asked me to post for her.

Simba was doing better, but he somehow managed to get his e-jacket off, the little stinker. Now (literally in the past 10 minutes) Brandi noticed that he's bleeding again. She isn't sure if he messed with it while his jacket was off and that caused it to bleed again or if it's something else. Brandi said it doesn't look like he was messing with the outside of it as there is nothing visible there, but maybe he got to the inside of it?? Ugh, I feel so bad for both of them!

He is acting OK otherwise, he's just very grouchy that Brandi put him back in the jacket. Too bad Mr. Naughty Pants! He's like Houdini getting out of the darn thing! On a positive note, he did gain 3 grams, so his weight is now at 127g. Brandi will be up watching him closely all night and she'll be calling the vet first thing in the morning.

If Brandi can get on here herself to post, I'm sure she will when she has an update tomorrow, maybe from the vet. If she's still having technical difficulties, I (or someone else like Aimee or Connie) will post for her. In the meantime, keep the prayers comin', we don't want Simba bleeding again like this!

Update:

Simba had a tiny bit more bleeding but seems to be better than he was. He's eating more than he was, but still not as much as he used to.

More will be updated as Brandi continues to monitor Simba! Keep prayin'!!!

Update from Brandi:

Brandi is dropping Simba off Tuesday to Dr. Pat (unless things get worse sooner). Dr. Pat is going to put him to sleep and examine him to try to figure out why he's still been bleeding. He spoke to Dr. F., but he has never dealt with bleeding issues like this. Dr. Pat STILL hasn't been able to get ahold of the other vet (the one who sewed Simba shut) - she just won't return his calls. Her office claims she's busy each time he calls or emails her.

With the research Dr. Pat has been doing, he hasn't found anything about gliders with genetic blood disorders. He's hoping that means that there's another reason for the bleeding. He said Simba is not showing any other symptoms that would point towards a blood disorder, but he can't say that it's not that for sure. Dr. Pat said there could be a few things causing the bleeding - for example, he could have a crystal in his bladder that he can't pass since his urethral opening is so small now. It could also be from him messing with it the two times he got his e-jacket off.

Hopefully the vet will figure out what's going on come Tuesday - keep praying everyone, poor Simba has been through ENOUGH!

Please, dear Lord, watch over sweet Simba and heal him!

OMG, I misunderstood this the first time I read this (don't ask what I thought I was reading that'll teach me to read posts in an "altered state" )

A couple suggestions to relay to Brandy about Simba escaping from the e-jacket....I'm guessing that he's figured out how to "rub" the back of the jacket so that the straps will let go. #1 Try using duct tape to help keep them in place (actually I'm a HUGE fan of Gorilla tape: it has less residue when you take the tape off); #2 Not sure if this is possible with the way the straps are made on the e-jackets she has.....can the straps be put INSIDE the overlap on his back? I've been thinking about trying to make straps with Velcro on BOTH sides so it'll grab better between the parts that overlap. I need to have a physical workout behind the mower tomorrow morning & will try to think this out a little more. I'm STILL praying for Simba and Brandy.....I haven't forgotten you guys!

Prayers going out to Simba and Brandi. Enough is enough. He needs to heal completely now.

Poop, I forgot to ask Brandi tonight what to post for an update! I will talk to her tomorrow and see what she wants me to post I can assure all of you that Simba is still truckin' along.....

Sorry it took me so long to post, but here we go:

Simba has gone 5 days now without bleeding. His weight is now at 130g and while he hasn't gained anymore than that, he's not losing any either, so he's hit that middle ground. If he DOES have anymore bleeding, the vet is going to do x-rays to see if he can figure out what's going on. If he continues to do OK, the vet will clear him to travel so Brandi will be able to make the trip back to VA. He wants to see Simba back in July so Brandi and the family will make the trip back to FL at that point for the check-up....

Brandi let me start by saying I'm so sorry that in my big move I missed all the Simba posts until today. Took the time to read everyone since the very first one and all I can say is WOW and give you one of these . Thank you so much for everything from the updates, photos, and all the information everyone is learning about the issues poor Simba has had to deal with. Know that you, Simba, and his girls now have prayers winging their way accross the ocean.

Simba you just keep getting better and gain a little bit more. Way to go little one!

I am new to glider central and Simba's story is such an inspiration! I cannot believe how strong that little man is, and Brandi we should all hope for a mommy as loving and dedicated as you. The pictures are wonderful and brought tears to my eyes. Good luck to the little man and I hope he can finally have a happy and healthy life.

SIMBA UPDATE FROM BRANDI:

I still have to remove the plugs that build up and he can't get out each week but other than that he's doing wonderful. Ill weigh him today and let you know how much he's gained. Im so excited to have him acting like himself again! Well, more spoiled but im ok with that! And Nala will be having her joeys come oop in another week or two! Simba has been super sweet to her and he peeks in her pouch to check on his kids. Oh and his bald spot on his head is almost gone but he still has a little one on his chest.

so is it the anal glands that have to be expressed???? Having trouble following what you mean. Overall sounds like a good report!!!
