Blindness in gliders

Blindness in gliders - 07/20/07 02:49 AM

My rehome older guy, well he's not that old, he's 6 but I have noticed for a few weeks now that his vision seems to be a bit off, has any one delt with blindness in gliders? How do I know for sure if this is really happening? He knows were things are but if your finger is front of his face he'll sort of have to find it? I'm a bit worried, and don't know if there are any thing I can do if this is happening. Any advice is appreciated.

I think sugarglidersuz has experience with a blind glider. You may try PMing her. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, maybe someone will be along soon that can help you more than I can.

Thanks Jennie, I just did a search and came up with a thread named the same as mine by Lindsay and seen Suz's post. I'm going to get him into the vet to get his eyes checked.

I have one glider with only one eye. I just have to make sure what side I pet or pick her up on so I don't startle her.

wave I'm sorry to hear that your little one is having trouble with his vision. As someone suggested earlier, you might want to pm sugarglidersuz or Xfilefan they both have had alot of experience with blind gliders.
Your doing the right thing by taking him in to get checked.
Here is a link that might be of some help as well.

The only way to know for sure if your glider is blind or is going blind is to have him examined by a vet. Even if he is blind, he can still live a full life with just a few adjustments to his cage. Reading through the thread that Linda referred you to will give you lots of ideas about how to adapt his environment for him thumb Good luck and please keep us posted on him.
