I'm not sure where to post this but I want to share some information with everyone and anyone who will listen. My friend had a tragic thing happen to her today. She was trying to bond with her glider she had for about 5 months. She put her sweater over the cage so she could smell her scent. Her glider got her nail caught in the sweater and she couldn't get out. My friend was sick and had taken some medicine so she didn't hear the glider. The next morning, today, she woke up to find her precious glider stuck with her nail caught in the sweater. I guess she became dehydrated or possibly stressed herself out and die from overwhelming stress of being caught in the sweater. Please do not leave your sweater over the cage in an effort to bond. You can leave your cotton shirt or velour sweat jacket over the cage, anything that will not possibly tangle your glider's nails.

I am so very sorry for your friend, and thank you for posting this warning.

Hopefully it will save another glider hug2

This is a very important reminder, though a terrible way to learn it. I am very sorry for your friend's loss. hug2

It is important to remember, for this same reason, that cage and bonding pouches should always be checked thoroughly for loose strings as well.

Yes, please be cautious of what items you put over the cage. My friend just wanted her glider to smell her scent so everyday she would take off her clothes and place a part of her outfit over the cage to help her bond with her glider.

Do you think she should get another glider right away or should she wait a while? She's had quite a few animal losses and she's kinda traumatized. She lost another glider when her room mate left the toilet up and her glider drowned.

I think that is a question only your friend can answer for herself. Choosing when to get another animal after a death is a very personal decision and I think only that person can know when they are ready. No matter how much we try to do the right things and protect them, sometimes things just happen.
