Little Man's Left Alone - 02/21/14 02:20 AM
Around November last year I was told by my brother that he'd finally found a new home for my trio. He'd been looking since I'd moved to Pennsylvania and found that they were illegal. The woman seemed thrilled to have them, said she always wanted them. I was under the belief that they were in a great home with a family that loved them. That belief was shattered on Monday when I got a panicked phone call from my mother.
Anita was dead, Micah was hurt, and there was no word on Marius. I freaked. A few word fights, a phone call, and a deep breathe later and I was on my way to pick up the survivors.
My heart sank at the sight of Micah laying on the bottom of the cage, a couple inches from a pouch and a plate of food that hadn't been touched. She was bad. I didn't get a clear look at her injuries until she was out of pain (within 30 minutes of picking her up she was humanely euthanized). She had done a lot of damage and the vet agreed, there was no coming back from that. The sight was ugly and there was too much damage. For the first time since she'd found she could run, I was able to pet and cuddle her. She went with all the love and apologies I could send her with but for me it wasn't enough.
Marius had lost weight and was sleeping alone. The love of his life was gone and he lived for her, I was shocked to see that he was still alive a month after losing her. He's staying in my care as I've since moved to Mississippi and I'm still in the process of figuring out what to do with my little man. For now he's staying close and I'm going to try to bring him back to his healthy self but I think it might be a while, he's mourning his girls like I am. But he's eating, even if his playing is a bit subdued.
I still don't know what happened to Anita, and I'll never know. I was told she stopped eating all of a sudden, but I don't know if I can believe that as the woman point blank lied to my face about keeping them on their diet. All their supplements that was sent with them were still in the bags my mother packed when they left her care. Even their notebook with all important information was still tucked in with their extra pouches that had been sent with them. I don't know what happened, but I have come to be content knowing she's now got her twins with her.
On a side note, around the same time Anita was said to have died, Oneiroi (Micah's twin) suddenly and unexpectedly passed. His owner had a necropsy done and it was found that he'd stopped eating.
Micah, Anita, and Oneiroi are gliding free, together again.
