Lost a joey

Lost a joey - 04/20/06 05:35 PM

I lost a joey last night that wasn't all the way out of pouch. It would have been out at the end of this week as I had been seeing body parts (feet, tail, rear end) sticking out of pouch for the past 3 days or so. This was from Kiki (the sugar glider) she pulled the baby and killed/ate it again I'm REALLY sad I was sooooo excited to finally have a joey from her and she was doing so good with it - I just don't know what happened. I don't know if it's her pulling the joeys out or the male she's in with. This happened last time too. She waited until the joey was full term, then ate it. Why not just take care of it when it's little? Why does she have to wait until it's developed The male she's in with is neutered now, as of Feb. but still managed to concieve this joey with her. I found bones and some little bits and peices left. But they didn't leave me much. This pair will be getting seperated this month and I think I'll be putting her with a WF male, wait for her to concieve once more and if she does it again with a different mate she unfortunantly will not be bred again, even though she has the potential to throw some interesting colors, I just can't personally go threw this with her anymore. It's to heartbreaking on my behalf.

First I want to say I'm so sorry for your loss. I haven't been through having any joeys yet but have 2 in the pouch now. I am wondering the same thing when I hear about this happening. I don't understand why they would wait till the joey is formed and almost out to do that. I guess it's something we may never know.

Prayers and hugs to you.

[:"green"]Sadly, I went through almost the exact same thing a few weeks ago with my Allira. She eliminated the joey within a day or two of coming oop . My heart goes out to you...

- Hugs - It was meant to be. Maybe kiki knows she isen't ready to be a mother yet ? I think if this keeps happening quit trying to get a joey out of her. Its not work risking a little joey's life for some "interesting" colors. Thats how I see it.
