Help please! Questions - 10/19/06 01:28 AM

Ok so I took my Diglet and Gandalf to my moms to visit for a week. The car trip was ok, but about 3 and half hours. I got them all set up the night I got here there travel cage I have for them. The first night I was here, one of our cats got to Diglet and spooked her a bit. We all woke up to crabbing and a cat was messing with her on the kitchen floor. She seemed to be alright, no broken skin or bones, but I was still scared for her. I checked her out and held her for a while. She was up and moving in a few minutes. Gave her some water and some grapes and put her back in the cage where she played with Gandalf (My glider boy and her mate). Well Diglet also has had a Joey IP for a few weeks now, she sorta suprised me to say the least. Today this morning she was up so I held her and took a nap with her. Well later on around 4:30-5:00ish my glider boy was up in his wheel so I went to give him a grape and then I noticed Diglet outside of her coconuthut and moving slugishly. She doesnt seem hurt in anyway but I think she is really tired and probably stressed out from being at my moms house. That and her baby that was in pouch is not there anymore. I checked the cage, nothing. I think she ate her baby. My questions are is she stressed out to the point she doesnt want to move very much. Im holding her now and she doesnt want to leave me hands or shoulder. I would bring her to a vet but there are no vets up here.

I think she is very stressed and tired from the cartrip (which she was fine afterwards though), the cat episode and her baby. Someone please let me know what they think I dont want to lose my frist sweetheart. Another thing my Gandalf is completely fine. Hes energetic and running his wheel all the time. Shes the only one acting like this. Please help.

I'm so very sorry this happened to you your girl! I can't believe someone hasn't been here to help you out yet. I don't know what to tell you. I would certainly keep her close to you no matter what and keep all other animals away from her. Poor thing is scared to death. Give her alot of attention and keep her warm. Get her to eat and make sure she is drinking fluids! Someone will be here hopefully soon to give you more advice. Good Luck!!

Also, I'm worried about her moving sluggishly. She needs to be seen ASAP. Her calcium levels may be too low cause of the stress on her. Gliders can eat the babies when they feel threatened. I'm not trying to scare you but she needs to be seen to make sure she isn't low on calcium or something else.

Stay calm for her though. She will sense how stressed you are and that can make her more stressed. Keep her in a quiet place and talk to her and let her be with her mate if that's what she wants. I would clean out the area good where the baby was. HUGS to all of you

So sorry you are going thru this.

Do I understand correctly that the cat actually had her out of her cage on the floor like batting her around?

SugarBlossoms gave you great advice. I would encourage you to get a vet check SOON, as she could have internal injuries that can not be seen just by looking at her. Especially with the sluggishness. If you decide to look for a vet where you are, I would suggest that you title the post with something that says what you want like HELP NEED VET IN BLAH BLAH BLAH. That way people on the forum will know what you want and will more quickly come to help.

In the mean time, I know nothing better than the advice from SugarBlossoms.

Will include you in our prayers

Re: Help please! Questions - 10/19/06 04:06 AM

Well I am sad to say my sweety passed away tonight. Thank you SugarBlossoms and angelskates for your help. I did hold and got her to drink some water. I tried to make her feel better and had Gandalf with me too. Unfortunantley about ahalf hour after Blossoms post diglet breathed her last breathes in my hands and then stopped breathing. I dont know what else to say. This has never happened to me before. I will always miss my first glider baby. I love you Diglet and will always remember you.

Thanks again for your help.

Oh JoeyM I am SOOO sorry this happened. Even though she looked fine the cat probably stressed her out and possibly even gave her a heart attack. I know I had a hamster who got out of the cage and was found by my cat. My cat was just looking at the hamster but it scared my hamster to death. I don't know for a fact that this is what happened with your sweet heart.

I am so sorry and just sitting here in tears right now. Sending prayers and HUGS your way.

I just read this post, and feel so bad for you! Definitely give Gandalf extra attention because I'm sure he's grieving too. I'll keep you both in my thoughts.

Oh I am so very sorry for the loss of your baby. I think someone mentioned it, but I also wonder about the possibility the cat gave your baby internal injuries.. Give Gandolf extra love and kisses, he needs you more than ever now! hug2 hug2 hug2

I am sorry for your lose! frown You will be okay, but it takes a lot of time. She knew you loved her and she was with you when she passed~~> I am sure thats what she would have wanted. You are in my Prayers! hug2
Give a lot of love to her mate, he will need you now more then anything. heart He is probably very confussed and sad. I wish my words helped, but I know no words help at this moment.

Just remember the love and the happiness she brought to your life and hold her in your heart forever!
