Hello. I just brought 3 new gliders home. I purchased mine in MO. If you want more info you can e-mail me at []SLE503@msn.com.[/] Mine seem to be very healthy and happy (except for the move away from mommy, they are still adjusting).
By the way, I live in Hartford IA, it is southeast of Des Moines.

Still looking into getting our second pair of gliders. We had some about 8 years ago, and had to give them up due to moving to a place that would not allow animals. Always wanted another pair. SLE's little girls are very sweet (handled them about 2 weeks ago), and we are still trying to find a little boy from a good home. We have one possibility from someone else in Iowa, but ultimately would like to get the unrelated pair from the same place to ensure that they get along, and that pushed us out of state for a breeder. Once we get something figured out, we will have joeys from time to time as well. Oh, I live in Pleasant Hill, Iowa which is right next to Des Moines.

Is there anyone near Des Moines who can rescue two gliders? Posts to read are in Health and Hygiene forum and Glider Ad forum, and are made by HedsIc (or something like that). If you can help these gliders, please do.

After a lot of hard looking, we got our new gliders from Mary in Centerville, IA. She is a USDA breeder and seems to really have things together. She is feeding her gliders better than most of the other people we talked with (no bird seed for example) and they are handled a lot more than some of the other choices. There was a great opportunity from Tulsa, OK (they were willing to meet me half way at about 3.5 hours from my house) and another in Hartford, IA (which is like 20 minutes from my house, but they only had a little girl), but the rest were not up to the level I would hope, even though many were USDA registered as well. Others were just too far away. Mary drove up to Des Moines to make my drive time 10 minutes. She included the usual USDA papers, 4 pouches, some food, nectar, vitamins, treats, and was just a nice person to deal with. So we have a 4 month old female and a 3 month old male. They have been with us for 4 days is all, and they are starting to settle in a little. The boy took to us faster that the girl and isn't as crabby as she is, but she is really starting to come around. They don't mind being with us, but aren't sure about being held yet. They also don't eat anything but the fruit smooties I made for them or fresh fruit yet. I've tried chicken baby food with no luck, and they haven't taken to the ZooKeeper's staple yet. Might end up with BML in the end. Now I just need names, but that is another story.

I live in Des Moines and I am interested in purchasing 1 or 2 gliders. I am having no luck though in finding a suitable breeder, I found one at a pet store but it was not in a very nice enviroment and I tried to tell them that and they didn't want to listen. She only had a piece of wool in the cage, I told her they needed pouches and nests and toys and she acted like I was crazy so I didn't purchase them from her and was hoping to find a breeder but am not having any luck. I would be ready to purchase them the end of January due to mu land lord painting and other maintance in my house. If any one can help please let me know!

Just a follow up. Our little buddies have been doing great. We have had 2 successful pregnancies so far (1 joey each), and today mom (Yes, they do have names - Zoey) and her latest little boy (5 weeks OOP) are going to go with me to my daughter's Jr High class this afternoon. I'm taking a half day off work, and she is giving the presentation, while I bring in the critters. I was going to bring in dad (Gizmo) too, but I thought that 2 adults and 1 joey would be too much craziness in the class room. No worries about it being too much for the joey. I will only get him out towards the end for the "awe, how cute" effect. They are all very social and love the attention. Even the little guy has been handled since day 1 OOP, so that are all great with us humans.
Anyway, just thought that I needed to post a follow up after my post back in 2005. Oh, I am in Pleasant Hill, IA (right next to Des Moines).

Well, it is time to sell the little guy, but I am having a difficult time finding the right advertising avenue... Any ideas for advertising in Iowa? I don't want to just drop an ad in the paper for fear of someone wanting to buy him without having any experience.

lboat - I didn't know if you would know this yet, but PixTrix is a member on here. She is a breeder located in WI. I bought my two little girls from her a week ago and they are the love of my life. I highly suggest her! I think you can search for her on the site. If you can't find her let me know and I'll send a link for you!

Hi DSMAmy, Who exactly were you asking if they had a joey? I'm not sure if any of us on this specific post are breeders. Have you tried putting a post in the HI I'M NEW forum?? Then people could greet you (if you havnt already been) and you could request help with locating a joey. My breeder is PixTrix. I think you can search for her on her and send her a message. Let me know if you need help with that! Alia

hello everyone on glider CENTRAL! I live in Omaha, NE and REALLY want to buy a sugar-glider. However, I am really unsure of where to buy them, and want to buy one locally that is not to far of a drive. My sister used to have a sugar glider (she is in college) and I loved the thing. If anyone can get back to me about where to find a sugar glider near Omaha, NE that would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me @ havilande@hotmail.com or i suppose through this website? Thanks!!!!!!

Hi, I live in a small town by Hampton. I have 2 gliders, Spike and Gabby. I was wondering if anyone knows of a vet that is familar with sugar gliders in this area or do I have to go Des Moines? My male was suppose to be a female and I would like to get him neutered. He is probably 3-4 months older than my female and I'm not sure if I can leave them in the same cage together all the time.

sugarmom, Here is a link to our Vet Database maybe you can check there as well. Good Luck in locating a vet that will neuter your little fella. I would be extra cautious with them being together until he is neutered.

Hi all. My hubby & I live in Ankeny Iowa (just North of Des Moines). We are a small breeder and do have grey and colored gliders from time to time. We got our first pair of gliders (leu hets) a year ago and just picked up our new trio (white mosaic & WFBs) last weekend at Judie's midwest gathering. Ben & I are doing our best to learn what we can about these amazing little creatures and have even started a website to help educate people as well ( http://www.sweet-sugar-gliders.com). We just started the website this year, so there will be LOTS of info added as we have time. It seems there aren't many good breeders in Iowa (and sadly many of the gliders around here were purchased at the state fair), so we take our responsibility seriously. It's nice to see there are some other Iowa people in here. Eventually I hope to do an Iowa get-together (maybe within the next year), so be on the lookout for that in the Events forum. I'd love to meet lots of Iowa suggie lovers! Misty

I am from Council Bluffs. I have not found any breeders in Iowa and there are very few breeders close by. I got my first glider, Luigi, from the Iowa State Fair. Then over New Years we got a little buddy, Mario, from a breeder in Missouri. I might be making a trip to Texas to purchase yet again another little buddy. Not sure if I am going to get a girl or another boy.

Welcome to the boards, Jason! You'll find lots of great info & support in here. There are a few small-scale breeders in Iowa. I am one of them. I can point you to a few others as well, if you want to shoot me an email (misty@dormanexotics.com). It's funny that you mentioned going to Texas for a glider. I have someone taking a glider on his way down to Texas right now. Misty

Welcome Jason. There are a few breeders in Iowa for gliders not many. I know Misty is one. I am a very small scale breeder in Iowa with only one breeding pair currently. Hope you enjoy GC.

Well, I will post too. I am in Bedford, about 20 miles north of the Missouri border near Maryville. I am a USDA breeder and have had gliders in my life for over 13 years. I raise Leus, Mosaics, Creminos, White Face Blondes, Lions and hope to have some Platinums in the New Year. I help to educate folks properly on glider care so their first experience with gliders will hopefully be a good one. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.

hello everyone on glider CENTRAL! Gliders are illegal in Omaha and most of the towns around it.

Hello, I'm in DeWitt, IA, a small town a bit north of Davenport/Bettendorf. I do not have sugar gliders yet, but am hanging out on here soaking up all the data I can so that we can make the right choices in selection and care of our gliders when the time comes to welcome some home here!
At the moment, we have pet rats, and ADORE them, but I think we'd like to shift to a species with longer longevity after our remaining ratties head Heavenward when their times each come. After MUCH study, I am feeling more and more affirmed (and I've been researching for several months now) that sugar gliders have precisely the qualities we enjoy in furry little housemates, and that we are confident we are up for carefully providing for their needs (and yes, we do understand that some needs are very specific--we're a bit obsessive with our pets are not daunted by this). -Annette

Hi Shannon. Since you have 9 I'm assuming you didn't get them all at once. Any little tips you can share on introducing them to each other would be greatly appreciated. I currently have my plan in the works with slowly moving the cages closer to each other in stages. Pouch swapping is going well. Playing in the tent with toys that smell like each other. Next step will be a bath tub intro to see who gets along and who doesn't. I have two gliders to introduce to three others. Any tips? Anything to watch out for? Wish me luck. If anyone else wants to share experiences feel free. My master plan on how to do this is based off off all the info I've scratched up on this forum.
