Stores have to have that? My son works at Petco and I know for a fact that they don't have a euthanization chamber. Of course, they don't breed, so are you talking about liscensed to be breeders? Or just to sell animals?

I'm about 95% sure that Petco is on the regular city plumbing, also.

I have worked petstores in 2 differents stated (NE and KS) and an animal shelter and in all 3 instances, The facility did not have seperate plumbing. The animal shelter did have its own cremation oven but not a euthanasia chamber. All 3 facicilties used vets when it came to it for euthanasia. As far as I know (and I work at a vet now) Euthanasia can only be performed by a licenced vet.

I don't beleive any of that is true. I don't know of any sugar glider breeder that has to have a seperate septic tank or an euthanization chamber.

No, stores don't have to have this in order to operate, just to be licensed by the USDA to sell exotics. At least here in SC, this is what I've been told by people working in or who own pet stores. That's why all of our pet stores here cannot sell sugar gliders, chinchillas, spiny mice, degus, and other exotics.

Again, this is what I've been told by pet store workers/owners here. I don't know how accurate it is. Only one pet store in Columbia was USDA licensed, and they burned down last november (i strongly believe it was an insurance ploy, just because of how shady the owner was and how horrible he kept all his animals). Another pet store here cannot carry gliders, but can order them for you after you've paid for them in full (most-likely from a glider mill, they said they come from "a breeder" in texas). I was told all of this early last year, back before I had any gliders, and was trying to find a place to buy them from.

There was one other store here about 6 years ago that carried all of the above-mentioned animals - she was a sweet woman and took excellent care of all her animals (her store is where I first discovered sugar gliders and what they were), but she was shut down by the USDA for not having a license and now a husband and wife own the store but don't sell any exotics - mostly just birds, parrots and fish.

One store here has a euthanization chamber but they aren't USDA licensed and don't use the chamber.

I was just wondering if these are the same requirements for being a private breeder. I'd love to become a licensed breeder some day, but I live in a 3-bedroom house (that I rent from my parents) in a neighborhood and I have city water.

Only a few more weeks left!! I can't wait to get this over with so people can quit harrassing me about if I am licensed or not. I can only go as fast as the USDA and most of you should know, that isn't real fast. But he assured me that once I get moved in and settled that he should be able to do the inspection at that time.

I just got the glider room all painted and it looks awesome! Next is nice lanolium floors for them and shelves for all the cages. I will definatly post pics when it's finished.

I am STILL not moved into my house *grr* and I haven't heard back from the inspector. I have a feeling that I am going to have to send in another packet because my other app might be expired. Hopefully we will be moved in by the 1st of July and we can set up the inspection appointment then.

I have my packet but haven't filled it out yet. It seems they want so much and I'm afraid of not passing for one reason or another and having to start over and over! LOL

Good luck getting your house done Lynsie, we are still trying to find a bigger one, we NEED ROOM! lol

I am pretty confident that I am going to pass without any problems it's just the time that has me worried. I am already past due and now this house is setting me back farther, but there's not much I can do about it.

OMG, the time is FINALLY approaching for my Pre-License inspection by the USDA vet. It was supposed to happen when I got back from the SGGA, BUT he just called me back yesterday. I missed his call but he said just to call him back and set it up for either next week or the week after. As soon as my cell charges I will calling and making the apt. EEK!!

So, I need the complete low down and what to have ready. So far I got my cages are clean, safe, and off the ground. My food is stored together and labled properly. My glider room has proper ventilation. They are all on and good diet and healthy, and I have a copy of my diet printed out. I have all thier lineages, oop dates, etc on file. I also have all of my records of joeys sold on file.

I know there is so much that I am forgetting. Any tips??

You didn't mention it, do you have your vet inspection already signed? My inspector (when I was breeding and licensed) said that I always had to have the vet inspection up to date or he couldn't sign off. I always did, so it wasn't a problem, but it is something to remember. Just remember to be very polite and friendly (I know you will be) but even if he says there is a problem, just tell him you will fix it, and thank him. Most of the inspectors are great, but I have heard some horror stories of people getting on their bad side and having constant problems. You'll do great!!!

I had my pre-license inspection today, FINALLY. Actually he is still here, LOL. He is in his car typing up the report.

Last night I was a total nervous wreck. I cleaned this house for 12 hours strait from head to toe, LOL.

He arrived about an hour ago. He wanted to look at my gliders first. After I got out the first 13 and gave them all kisses and treats, he said that he knew that my gliders were ALL healthy and well taken care of, and didn't need to see the rest. Although, I did show him a few more anyway, lol. He was highly impressed with everything, cages, gliders, room, diet, everything! He said that he really wished that everyone would take such good care of thier animals.

I took him to the kitchen and showed him all the food I had for the gliders and he was even impressed with that, LOL.

Then on to the paperwork. Impressed again! He said the only thing that I needed was addresses and phone numbers of the people I bought my gliders from. I actually have all that, I just didn't have it documented on my spreadsheet.

He said there is no way that I won't be approved for my license! YIPPEE!!! He said that I should receive my license in about 2 weeks! YAY!!

So now he is his car typing up the report and then he is going to go over all the paperwork with me.

I am SOOO excited!!!!!

For all those that said I was going to get in trouble for selling my gliders before I got my license. You are wrong. He said I did what I was suppose to. I contacted USDA to get licensed and in the meantime I documented all my sales. He said the only time you are not allowed to make a sale is inbetween now (pre-license) and the day the receive my license(2 weeks). He said that I have done nothing wrong.

Okay, I'm am going to wrap this up and get ready to go over paper work. I will update again after he leaves.

It is a HUGE load off of my shoulders!!!

We went over the paper work and he left. He said he will be back for my first unannouced visit in 4-7 months.

He gave me the order form to order my Aphis 7020 forms but it doesn't have an address of where I send it to. Does anyone know?

Lynsie, I have a quick question for you. I requested a package and have not received it yet. How long did it take you to get the package with the application?

Hey Lynsie,
All my paper work I believe goes to Ft. Collins, Colorado. and you can also call the office number and tell them you need the 7020 forms and they will mail them to you. You need to give them your license number and your address. That's usually all they ask for.

Congratulations.......
