Thanks for that. Those are interesting observations, SugarBlossoms.

Let me restate - I didn't say *I* was going to be teaching my gliders to swim. This isn't even my post.

I just have seen and read examples of gliders liking water - moving water. Spraying water. Like the hose, the shower, etc.

Yes, they have a huge tendency to drown in standing water. It is sadly very well documented. I have GC friends who have lost their beloved companions to drowning. Not the least of which is sweet Striker.

My comments were that I wanted to see how my gliders reacted to running/spraying water. Not water puddles, and pools of standing water. If they are attracted to water, then that would be interesting to know. But I have no intention of providing them with enough water to drown themselves in. Even if they did want to go swimming--I wouldn't let them. It is the number 1 cause of death in gliders. NO WAY do I want my babies anywhere NEAR a standing water source!

Gosh, I'm probably going to hear it for this one, but I used to have a glider (RIP Honey) that loved water. She especially had a thing for bubbles, but not blown bubbles, suds bubbles from soap. I would fill up the sink with like 2 inches of water, add a little baby soap, suds it up and she would play in there for as long as I would let her. She would swim, float, pounce, splash, and have a good ol' time... As with many other things, playing with water should be decided on a glider by glider basis. I discovered Honey like what while washing the dishes with her in my bra. She saw the bubbles and came plowing down to the water to play...

My doctor advised against bubble baths for my lil girl because of sensitivities. I don't know if this could be true for gliders as well. (?)

Someone has a smart dad. That is funny! hehe!

Great discussion! Thanks to all who have clarified their viewpoints "for the good of the glider!" laugh

(Val, fyi, *I knew* you meant that, but I was not sure other readers would, so I'm *especially* grateful for your clarifications in your own words because your opinions here DO hold a lot of water...pun intended)! laugh

Funny...I have a saying myself of: open your mind, something good might fall in! LOL

Let it just not be a glider into water in this case... laugh

Here is a post from another website. I hadn't ever been there until today when I was reading the biting article on gliderpedia. I felt like this thread fit into what is being discussed here. tant Glider can Swim
Now I know why I choose to be on Glider Central... agree
