But who is to say what sites should be "recommended"? Not trying to be obnoxious but I would assume, if I were new to the community and someone told me to visit this safe/unsafe site, I'd only buy from people who were recommended. I'd assume they sold the safest stuff and if you aren't on the list, then you must not be any good. Just my thoughts.
I think GC has a decent link rating system and you can write reviews but no one uses it.

"HOW do I KNOW that Alicia's sissy pouches are so wonderful??" Err... Sari... that's kind of the point... you know because people have recommended them... Kaczie, the buyers decide who should be recommended. Democracy at work. And they should be able to report people who are selling bad products. Personally, just because they aren't recommended doesn't mean I'm not buying from them. Now if they're on the watch list, that's a different story. I think that people will buy from neutral vendors regardless if they have good products, and if they really are as good as they look, they will eventually be recommended. That's the way these things work. Need a metaphor? ... sorry, I'm fresh out. I'll come up with one and post it... I just had one about the AKC, but I don't think that's the best one I can come up with...

There would be multiple "testers", but you get to choose who you send your item to. Oooh, Nicole, this is the first thing that really scares me. I don't think the person sending the item in should have ANY say over WHO will test their item. Big no-no in the QA field... (again, my opinion)Also, whoever is chosen to be the tesers would put together a list of things that would be safe/unsafe. If alpine fleece is, indeed, unsafe, then it shouldn't be used on bedding. Personally, I only use antipill because I don't like the look of the alpine. I assume, when you say "the testers would put together a list of things that would be safe/unsafe"... you mean that they all have the same list, correct???? (I think maybe you answered this below! Anyways, the point is that everything would be laid out in stone BEFORE any of this begins, that way all the "Testers" would be judging by the same standards, no by opinions, but by what has been laid out as the standards for safety(minimum stitch length, no decorative stitching, no glue, etc...). If a tester has an OPINION then they cannot "disqualify" your product because of that. For example: some people use tabs, while others use grommets. Both are considered safe(NOT the zinc ones!) so it would not be fair for a tester to deem something unsafe simply because THEY think that grommets are dangerous. Where would they get the info on what is safe, and not safe? ex: I'm guessing it has to be proven unsafe to be "judged on" that way, right? That's just an example, but ya'll get the idea(hopefully, lol). OK, I have to go to bed now. Surgery in the morning. I'm sorry if I stirred things up (it's fun, isn't it?) If I don't reply to anyone mad at me, it's because I'm in the hospital, not because I don't want to play! LOL

"HOW do I KNOW that Alicia's sissy pouches are so wonderful??" Err... Sari... that's kind of the point... you know because people have recommended them... Hmm, yes... but that's what we do now, go by recommendations. My point using Alicia, was that people were saying "give these people the seal of approval without going through the "process"..." So, if Alicia is so wonderful (and I'm sure she is), then she'll want to have her product tested, and given the stamp. (am I making any sence?)

I understand what you are saying, but my point is that the "testers" probably already know this, and can say with authority and certainty that her products are safe. I only think everyone should have to send in their stuff if it is then donated to a rescue, and this is purely practical. It would be a waste of time and effort, otherwise, but if it then goes to a rescue, then it is worth it, even for those who don't need the recommendation. Going by recommendations is a tried method, and we still do it, so I guess it works some of the time. I think the point would be to bring all of this information together in one place for the newbie. A list of recommendations, a list of what to look for in a toy/bedding, a list of disclaimers, removing the parties from responsibility if someone turns out to be a fraud, etc.

aha, I see what you are saying. And I am little "behind the ball" because apparently the list of people is out there, and I was going on the fact that I thought it was premature to have the list, and I didn't realize it would be the people who already know... Ok, so I am babbling now! Thanks for the clarification. And as my last post (because now my husband is home, and yelling at me for still being up!)... I think the info guide/web site is a wonderful idea, and the best part of this so far... Have fun hashing it out people!

Ok im going to give my 2 cents. I think this is a great idea. I do see some probs though. If they have already been stated sorry for the repeat im half asleep. I know that i am not as good at making things as some on here. I do feel that what i make is safe and i try my best to check and recheck before i send out to make sure i didnt miss something but lets face it no 2 gliders are the same. what is safe for some may not be safe for others. Some gliders go there whole life never shredding thru a bonding pouch or sleeping pouch and others who can get thru a no seem safe pouch. Well say my pouch was aproved and someone with a hard on toys glider got it and he was hurt cause he shredded thru the pouch and got cought then i think there would be some trouble. I have one glider who rippes at the fringes on my hamiks while the other dont mess with them. Can he be hurt by doing this prob not but im not willing to bet his life on it he is just a hard on toys glider. I know what im trying to say just dont think it is coming out right. Again i think it is a great idea but like stated before i think there is alot to it and mabey some probs down the rd. What if instead of a stamp of aproval that could lead to some probs down the rd we do something along the line of a member of the safty of gliders and toys? It will state we are commiting to do are utmost best at making safe toys and bedding for our gliders. Does this make any sense or am i rabling at 1 am lol.

There would be multiple "testers", but you get to choose who you send your item to. Ok, see here I'm back to the problem of...in order to have "multiple testers" evaluate your product, you have to send out multiple peices. Unless those testers are willing to spend THEIR money passing the "pouch" (or whatever) from one to the other. What if a website were set up where each vendor can list their items and then real customers, not "testers" can give feedback on that product? A consumer's reporting database? That way, each actual customer will be able to give their opinion of the product. There again, that is an extensive database and will require tons of online time to set up and maintain properly. I know that rating vendors has been an option for a very long time and people don't take the time to do it. GC already has a vendor's page for just this purpose but no one uses it. http://www.glidercentral.net/links/pages/Supplies__Products___Gifts/index.html

That's what the idea above was, Teresa. But it's late, lol, so I'll forgive you for overlooking it.

I'm starting to think it would just be better to make an organized site with descriptions on what to look for when buying safe bedding. Just a generalized list talking about the positives and negatives of each thing. IE, anti-pill vs. alpine, orings vs keyrings, etc. I think that considering all of the complications which have already been pointed out within this thread, the idea quoted above has the most merit so far
