Good grief, busy day. Plus trying to catch up on a little sleep, lol. 6 1/2 hours is better than what I've been getting-had been up 24 before that!
Anyway, she's still snuffling/sneezing/whatever-I've got some pics to post, and will do that after I get home from work tomorrow (later this am). Sundra, I've tried to think how I could record it...SOMEWHERE I've got a mini tape recorder, but I don't have a mic for the computer (and honestly, after this, can't afford one right now). I might try for a recording (IF I can find the machine) in the hopes I might be able to upload it at some point. If she doesn't sound any better by Mon, I'll call the vet and see if we should possibly change meds.
As to disposition-we haven't had a seizure since that first one prior to surgery , so who knows? Maybe this is what she needed to 'socialize'...though I wouldn't have chosen this route.
Anyway, crazy busy night at work, and I have a couple errands to run when I get off, but I'll update prob. close to noon with some new pics and such-since I'm off tomorrow night, I can stretch my schedule a bit. She's still hanging in there, though!

As far as Lyah's seizures go, I truly think that the poor baby just felt so horrible that she resigned herself to the fact that she didn't have the energy in her little body, literally, to stress out everytime you have to hold her and to have any kind of negative reaction at. This may be her way of saying "I feel like poopoo Mom, I think I'm gonna try just trusting you now to take care of me 'cause I don't think I can do it myself". And now that you have proven yourself to her she has finally let down her guard as far as you are concerned. This was a horrible way for this to happen but I think the end result is great. I think Miss Lyah is going to be on the mend and will start feeling a little better as each day goes by and that you and she will grow much closer because of whole the situation. You and she will remain in our prayers. Keep us posted, I know you will.

You may need to give her antibiotic injections for a few days to jump start her system. I know that's what Sass needed to get back on his feet and get over his infection/surgery. If you do call you vet, ask about that. I know you know how to give injections (or at least sub-q) yourself so you'd be able to give them on your own.

Sorry about that guys, wasn't able to get back on yesterday-but I have pics!
She still sounds awful when she sneezes, but she's eating better, her mouth isn't bleeding, and the number of sneezes is down somewhat (though there was quite a bit last night, today has been fairly quiet from her).
Anyhow, here's some pics of her face from the last couple days, plus her getting mouthwash and meds. Note we are not holding her head-but her shoulders...the towel itself will only allow for her head to go so far. And we're putting the meds in thru the front instead of the side, and putting a hand over her face until she swallows, instead of holding her head still. Putting the heel of your other hand against her chest keeps her struggles down-that's really hard to get a pic of, and those didn't turn out well.

Now, here's the ones of the tooth-you all wouldn't believe what that took. The coin in the pics is a dime. The first one you can see the magnifying glass we were taking the pics thru-the second two are the best I could get of the tooth itself. I'll get another pic of her face with tonights meds.

The swelling has really gone down - that's great! Poor little girl. It's apparent that she's not really happy about getting her mouthwash and meds, but she's taking it like a real trooper. Hope she's back to 100% quickly and that the seizures have actually stopped for good. What a lucky girl she is having you for a mommy! Hope you're able to get some sleep soon!!
Since the other thread's getting a bit long, I'll start a new one. I've got a call in to the vet-she bled again today (this time I got a pic-they're not too good because it's hard to hold her, a mealworm to make her lift her head, and manipulate a camera at the same time. I hadn't even put the syringe in her mouth-she just opened wide and it started draining.
Sneezy wise she's improving, and her face is still slightly swollen but nearly normal looking. This bleeding has me worried tho. Currently waiting for the vet to call back to find out if this is to be expected at this point or not.
Pics as follow (all taken today): 1. Face shot from top (you can just see the blood under her chin 2. Face shot from side 3. Blood (this one isn't great, she was moving, and I was doing 3 things at once-but shows the extent)
K...I talked to the vet. She said to give it another few days-that she probably pulled the clot when she opened her mouth like that, and needs to form another one (which is much more likely in the top jaw than a lower one, because of sinus involvement, according to my dentist). If it continues until friday, or shows up after that (or if there's increased swelling or lack of appetite), I need to take her back in. The tissues are really delicate in there.
I'm still really, really worried. I've had the misfortune to experience a dry socket last Dec. (lower molar-7th molar I've had taken...I was lucky before that) and the pain was indescribable (sp?). I can't imagine that in a glider!
Culture results should be in within a couple days, and I'll let everyone know when they're in. Gosh, I hate seeing a glider bleed like that!

Jen, I'm so sorry that Lyah's clot came loose & she's bleeding again. I hope it hasn't bled itself dry & that the clot will reform quickly and heal for her. Despite this, she does look like she's doing better. The swelling is down so much.

Oh dear, oh dear! I would be a weak mass of sobbing flesh on the floor if I had to watch any of my babies bleeding. When I trimmed a nail too close once and it bled, I raced all over looking for my styptic powder (it hadn't happened before, but I had it on hand, but not nearby). It seemed like poor Keiko would bleed dry. I was ready to call the emergency vet for help. She kept eating her mealie like nothing happened, though. So I'm hoping (and figuring) she wasn't in pain.
Do any of the medicines she's on thin her blood? Just curious. The mouth, being so moist, and all the activity with the tongue, just seems like a difficult area to heal. I know you're giving her the oral rinse and meds, and there's nothing more you can do at this point. You're such a great glider mom!
Sending prayers Leah's not in pain, and that she clots again quickly.
Forever owned in my heart by my "Eight is Enough" colony:
We haven't had another bleeding episode since the other day-so that's a good thing. She still sounds pretty bad when she sneezes to groom, tho, but at least the amount of sneezing is down to normal levels. She'd been on Clindamycin for 11 days.
Culture results came back yesterday-we were waiting for that. The specific bacteria in there is morganella morganii-an anerobic. Anerobic bacteria are those that only grow/reproduce in airless or very low air environments-such as with a tooth abscess, or deep in the body. Anerobic means 'without oxygen'. Contrast that to the ones we frequently deal with, such as those in a UTI, which are aerobic (or requiring oxygen). It came up sensitive to Baytril (the 'sensitivity) part of a Culture and Sensitivity, or C & S)..so now we need to switch meds, and hope it gets it. We're going with the Baytril, as the sensitivity indicated, and Metro, which is designed for a range of anerobic bacteria, and see if she doesn't finally start sounding better.
I found a link that talks about anerobic infections, different ones, treatment, and how some antibiotics just won't kill an anerobic infection:
During my research last night, I also discovered that the bacteria we cultured in Chronos for what we thought at the time (over a year ago)was a UTI, klebsiella pneumoniae, is also an anerobic similar to morganella. If I'd known then what I know now, here is what my thoughts would have looked like (and now the one vet's comment that that wasn't normally found in a UTI makes sense):
"Hmmm. That's an anerobic that is usually found only in deep tissues, or no air environments. Why would it be in his urine? Unless, he has an abscess or something in that area and the infection is coming from that"....
It took another 6 months to figure out that Chronos' longstanding, recurrent UTI actually WASN'T a UTI-it was an anal gland abscess we were treating with the wrong meds-meds not designed to kill anaerobic bacteria. He finally started getting better when we added the Flagyl (Metronidazole), and Baytril. Now I know exactly why one worked and the other didn't.
I think my vet was wondering why I insisted on knowing the name of the bacteria they cultured (I always do, lol)-in this case, I was able to learn a great deal that I hadn't known, and make some connections that have made some puzzles make sense.
At any rate, Lyah's been sounding all congested/squeaky whenever she makes a sound for 2 weeks now (that can't be comfortable!! )..so hopefully the meds change will start helping, and make her more comfortable.
Sorry for being so long winded, lol. I get excited when I make connections like this...vets don't want to sit there and try to teach you everything they went to vet school to learn, and wanted to share the observations.

Oh, and I nearly forgot. Because of her weight (she was 190 grams before she got sick, 177 at the vet at time of surgery), we are to Double the amount of meds by order of the vet (we keep 3 different antibiotics on hand, since we have 3 gliders on maintenance meds for deep infections that tend to recur-that costs about $60 per month to keep on hand just in meds)as prescribed for the others. That means .16 cc/ml of the Flagyl (metronidazole), and .20 cc/ml of the Baytril (enrofloxacin) Twice daily. That's quite a bit at a sitting.
NOTE: that these amounts are based on how the meds are mixed and how many mg/per ml of meds in suspension-if it is stronger or weaker in the mix, you could overdose so do NOT use this as a guide of how much to give your glider-ALWAYS ask the vet before medicating.
