I had two babies of my own but sadly they went to my ex. I would like to get new babies again. I do not want to breed. I absolutly love these little buggers.

They are illegal period to own in PA. I am right now working with a lady who lives in PA that took her gliders in and found out that she can not own them at all .This isn't the first case in PA a few years ago we had a member who adopted her pair from the fair .And within 24 hours after purchasing the gliders she found out the hard way they aren't legal. Even tho she purchased from a fair that the gentlemen selling them was only suppose to be selling turtles. It didn't matter the state told her the gliders had to go or they would be put down. She even went to the news stations and pleaded her case .Nothing helped they gave her 48 hours to get them out of the state. In PA they can't be pets , breeders or anything.

I know quite a few people that own them and even take them to vets who care for them. Guess it really depends on where you are in the state. And my info came from the state. So who knows. I know this law has been questioned alot. You can own and breed alligators but not a fuzz ball.

I can tell you without a doubt. I just got off the phone with the Pennsylvania Game Commissiong and I can tell you without a doubt they are strickly illegal in the state. If you would like to check for yourself you can go to this link http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/pgc/9106And go to contact us and call Wildlife management. And they will tell you that they do not allow or issue permits for sugar gliders at all .That noone in the state can own a single glider. And was told if found to have any they will be confiscated and put down. All tho there are people who may own them in the state they have been lucky not to have been found to have them. And vets that take care of them are only helping the animals cause they took a oath to care for sick and injured animals. But it is still illegal to own them.

Thats what I am talking about and it is quite common that when people ask about the law they get different answers. Some say the law has to do with breeding and selling and some say all. I have even gotten it pertains to wild sugar gliders caught from thw ild and brought to PA. The last part is fair enough as when the law was written sugar gliders were caught and shipped to the US. And yes there are petitions going around to change the law. But all I know is I had them and around here Wildlife commisions and the USDA did not care. And I didn not say I was staying in pittsburgh either.

I would call the Pennsylvania Game Commission. That way you have the truth about owning Sugar Gliders in PA. Plus it would be hard to get gliders since most if not all breeders will not sell to an illegal state.

Game Commission is who I asked. Now whoever is in charge may be different then when I asked, meaning the last couple years. Living here I know this law's interpretation has flucuated. Last time I owned two I was questioned by Game and whoever it was didnt care because the male was neutered. This is my experience. But like I said it may be different now. I'm not arguing the law but I have had a run in with it. Now maybe I got lucky but who knows. But gotta admit the law is silly since the USDA approves them elsewhere. All we can do is petition the law and get it changed.

I would suggest not relying on any phone call and would get it IN writing ON State stationary letter head with official signatures etc that they ARE legal before getting them.

As I told the senator if they are worried about the animals who can maul humans than make it for them do not include the animals that can't harm humans. Problem with that is gliders CAN bite. Gliders can carry illnesses (giardia for example) that humans can get. Yes, I know that so can dogs and cats and that a dog bite is usually MUCH worse than a glider's but that is the argument that they use. Gliders are exotic so that means they must be dangerous. Silly reasoning to ME but....it simply is what it is until the laws can be changed.

Maybe you can be the key (along with other people you know) in getting the law turned in your area! I hope that one day, you could legally own a sugar glider in your own home

Yea PA Game Commision is silly. I can own a croc which by far more dangerous than other pets. And I can even own a diamond back Rattle snake. I guess reptiles don't fall under exotic. What a joke.

Whats funny is that if a rattler is native to an area they dont give you grief but some politicians are trying to ban owning Leopard and crested geckos among a large list . Neither can thrive in most places in the US so they are really not able to take over and ruin the eco system. These laws are nuts, IMO.
