I have two gliders who were a pair, but now have to be separated due to one becoming aggressive and biting the other. I tried keeping them in separate cages and letting them sleep together on me in a pouch during the day, then letting them play in the tent together at night, but now she's biting him even in the pouch during the day. So now they are two lone gliders.
They're both around 5 years out of pouch this year, and I've had them for 4 years. They are not related and the previous owner got them at different times, from different places. Link is a very sweet boy, and a fraidy cat. He's very easy-going and has a good sense of humor (he's had to, living with Luna). Luna, on the other hand, is more on the neurotic side. She seems like she has slight vision problems and doesn't always land her jumps very well. I don't know if that has anything to do with her aggressiveness or not - maybe it makes her more defensive? She's a little nutty, but she's good with people and can be really lovey when she wants to be. She's a good girl, she's just got some issues. I don't know if it's even possible to find a home for her or not. I love them both very much and really hate having to do this. I would love very much to just keep them and try to work with them, but I have no time.
It's been difficult since I took them in. I have another colony of three that I've had for several years, and Link and Luna were supposed to have been integrated with them or they went back to their prior owner. But introductions can be a process, and after 4 months of trying, only my older two girls would accept Link. Luna wanted nothing to do with anyone, and my older male didn't want anything to do with Link (both males are neutered). When I told the owner it wasn't going to work, I never heard from them again. So for the past four years I've kept them, but two colonies is really more than I can handle. I have no life outside of them and work or I wouldn't have been able to do it this long. I'm alone and have a full-time job - one colony is all I have time for if I'm to give them the time they need. I've sacrificed my older colony's amount of tent time in order to accommodate Link and Luna, but it wasn't too hard most of the year - summers are the worst with the short nights. The past year the biting has made things considerably more difficult.
Now with three cages and three sets of dinner dishes and three sets of salads and three separate tent time sessions a night, I am overwhelmed. Their quality of life, along with my original colony's, is going to suffer and there's just nothing else I can do. I spend as much time with them as I can, but it wasn't enough before and now that Link and Luna are alone, it won't be nearly enough. I can't quit my job no matter how much I'd like to and I can't make more hours in the day. I'm very much hoping that someone can help us.
