Boy, has it been a while since I've posted here! For starters, my apologies for having been MIA for the past year and a half. I've moved to Central Florida and have been settling in (big change from growing up in the Keys) while starting my college career.

Now that I've explained myself...I'm back with a question! What are some ideas or mechanisms that you have tried in order to protect the wall behind your glider's cage? Kayla has been on the BML diet from day one and I have found it to be extremely difficult to remove from the wall. She tends to carry her fruits and veggies with her as she swings about in her cage and often times this results in quite a big mess on the wall, as well. (In other words, it's not just her BML that is tough to remove!) Luckily, I'm repainting within the next few weeks so the previous damage I inflicted on my wall while trying to remove any messes will be covered...but I don't want to do any more paint peeling any time in the near future. By all means, Kayla doesn't know any better...but I'd certainly like to shield my wall as best as possible from here on out.

I've thought of somehow crafting a piece of fabric to hang on the wall behind her cage but I'm at a loss as far as anything else goes. Plus, I don't suppose that a random piece of cloth hanging on the wall will be any bit attractive. I might have to "frame" it or do something of the sort.

What have you tried?

(Also, about how long should I keep her cage out of the room after I paint? I take no chances when it comes to protecting Kayla, but I've never had to relocate her temporarily due to painting the walls in my room.)

Thanks for all of your help and I'm glad to be back as a reader and a proud member of the community. Hope your weekend is safe and enjoyable...

Have you tried using a glider kitchen?

That can help stop the mess

See the attachment!

Thanks for the suggestion!

I read about the Glider Kitchen before I got Kayla two years ago, but never looked into making one. I decided that a simple bowl would work best for her, but now that you've brought this idea back to my memory, it might be darn well worth a shot!

The kitchens you linked me to are absolutely precious! Did you make them? Do you happen to have directions? Are they for sale? I've been away from the community for so long that I don't know what end is up anymore! I'll get back into the swing of things in no time, though...

Thanks, again.

I use a fabric shower curtain in back of my cages. I have a rod on the wall, so when it's time to wash it's easy to take off. The shower curtains come in so many different patterns plus it makes the room look nice.

I also use shower curtains but I use clear vinal ones because I spent days doing a mural on my walls in the glider room and don't want to cover up the mural. They come down easy, run through the washer and I hang them in the bath tub to dry for an hour or so and back up on the walls they go. I would LOVE to have fabric ones if only I could get them in clear.

I attatched a clear plastic shower curtain to the back and sides of my cage, if your girl is a chewer though I wouldn't do that. I also just made the glider kitchen and me and my gliders love it. I used a plastic storge container because I couldn't find a cake container that was the right size for my cage. Its really great!

I just use a white sheet...Full size $2.50 at Wal-Mart. You can of course get a colored one and it's the same price.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far!

I will be making a Glider Kitchen (are there any directions floating around here?) and will also purchase a sheet and a shower curtain in order to see what works best.

No directions needed but you do need a drill with a hole saw bit. It's the one that you use to make the hole in a door for the door knob.

I use glider kitchens as well as cage covers (large pieces of fleece or just a sheet) to keep messes to a minimum. They are cheap and work just fine.

Oh, and I know I've seen glider kitchens for sale somewhere. Let me go hit the internet and see what I can find.

I made a no sew cage cover. Not only did it protect the walls, but it also makes the cage cuter! I used blue fleece with a colorful star pattern. I LOVE it and it was so easy to make! I'll see if I can pm it to you. I would attach a picture, but I'll have to take one first. I'll try to do that soon.

Oh my goodness! Thanks for the emailed instructions. I just downloaded them and everything looks fantastic...I'll be swinging my Joanns tomorrow or Tuesday (depending on if they're open) for some fleece.

leisl send a pic to me too please I have been trying to make a no sew cover for awhile. Right now I just use a sheet since I cover 3 cages at once. My babies would just bark and bark if I covered each cage seperately. AS fo rth ekitchen they are easy but if Butlerfamilyzoo has any left she sells them.

OK, I've been trying to find a way to get these instructions so that everyone can see them without direct email. These were given to me by Dancing. The pictures are of the cage cover that I made. *crosses fingers*

Aarrgg...that didn't work. OK...go to www.photobucket.com and login sillyleisl. The viewers' password is suggies. Sorry, I think there's a better way to do that, but my photobucket looks different than my roommates. I use hers more than mine. In fact, I didn't even know I had one until I tried to register as a new user and it said i was already on it! Oh well. Hopefully this works, even if it is more round about than usual.

By the way, I altered the design so that the cage covers all sides. Panel A is the length of the front side, top, and back side. Panel D, add 6 inches instead of 3. Once the all panels are attached, cut the front panel in half to make the curtain doorway thingy...Hurray! No more messy walls!
