Ivey went to the vet a month ago for a pouch infection and we did Baytril twice a day for 2 weeks and all seemed well.

A couple of nights ago the flappy skin from the weight she had loss with the pouch infection looked swollen. She actually looked like she had gotten breast augmentation on one side. And her pouch infection looked like it was back.

When I took Ivey out this morning to take her to the vet I noticed that she had a lump forming on the other side in the exact same spot as the other one.

The vet felt the larger lump and told me that there was actually 2 lumps together. One hard and one soft. After consulting with Dr. Tristan they "think" that it may be Lymphoma. She is having a test run to find out for sure but the results won't be back for almost a week.

As far as her pouch infection goes she will be put on Baytril again with a medicated wash.

When the vet exasperated the lump she got 1ml of fluid out of it that she is having tested. On the plus side the fluid doesn't look like what normally comes out if it is Lymphoma. So both the vet and I are taking that as a good sign. And when Ivey woke up she never even noticed the spot that was exasperated, so the chance of her sm'ing the lump is slim. Her lumps are not proportionate now that a bunch of fluid is gone from the one.

I'll find out more tomorrow after my vet checks the fluid. There was plenty for her to send off AND for her to conduct her own tests and cultures as well.

Please pray that the tests that get sent off come back negative for Lymphoma.

Ivey is such a sweet little girl. She doesn't do any crabbing or nipping or biting through all that she has been through recently.

It was so cute when we got home today. Kudzu heard me walk in the house and popped his head up out of the pouch looking for me to return his girl. When I gave Ivey back to him, he licked her face for a second and they both climbed back in the pouch to finish their cuddle and sleeping. All was the way its suppose to be. So sweet!

I've been following this on LGG, but I just wanted to pop in here and say I'm thinking about little Ivey and hoping for the best possible outcome. My prayers are with the both of you!

Last Thursday Ivey went to the doctor for a reoccurring pouch infection and mysterious lumps on her chest. The vet exasperated the larger lump and got 1ml of fluid out of it and had it sent off for testing. We are still waiting on the test to come back to figure out what our next step is. Given the fact that she hasnt lost any more weight, but hasnt gained any either she is doing well and seems to not be bothered at all by these lumps. Her appetite is good, her ears are perky and her eyes are still bright and she is still pretty active considering she is not a spring chicken any more.

Kudzu nor Ivey has drawn any attention to the lumps and seem to pay them no mind, which is a good thing since I really do not want to seperate the 2 if at all possible.

Ivey will be going back to the vet again in the morning to see about having them drained again and hopefully when I pick her back up in the afternoon my vet would have heard something from the sample that was sent off for testing.

Many prayers coming towards precious Ivey.

Took her back in this morning cause I'm afraid if they burst I may be looking at other problems. So I was hoping that they could drain them again. But my vet is uneasy about putting her under to drain them again till they get the results back. My vet is hoping that they get the results back either today or tomorrow and if they dont come in tomorrow then she is going to call them. She doesnt feel that Ivey is in any danger at the moment and is very pleased with her appetite, curiousness and being so alert.

On the plus side the sample that my vet still has hasn't changed any. It hasn't clotted, discolored or grew any funkiness. We're still just playing the waiting game.

Now a side affect that I have is that I'm obsessing over my fluffy gliders for lumps, even though Ivey was not overly fluffy, now I'm just tripping over the small stuff and I know thats not good.

It's normal to be so worried! Your vet sounds like a good one!

Sherri my prayers are with you and Ivey. It is odd that the two lumps grew so close together and at about the same size. When they were drained how long did it take before they grew back?

Do gliders have lymph nodes placed similar to where we do? I agree, that is odd they should be symmetrically placed on the body. Sherri I hope Ivey is ok, your vet sounds just wonderful and it is normal to worry! I would be a basketcase in your shoes, believe me!

Originally she just had one large lump and a smaler one. She drained and took samples of the larger one on Thursday and by the Saturday I noticed it was getting bigger again and the smaller one was also getting larger.

My vet and I are both stumped as to what is causing the lump AND the fact they are in the same spot just opposite sides.

Test results soon....hopefully!

Sherri she really does have a very sweet little face and she looks like she was being such a good girl while you took those picture...I am sending prayers your way that Ives gets good news, something simple that can easily be taken care of...question...what symptoms of a pouch infection was she having? Looking at the pics, I can't see any redness or irritation or discharge (although the discharge would be hard to see anyway). Are those pics of her after the infection has calmed down alot? Sorry its off topic, I am just curious...give her a kiss on the head for me and stay positive!

It could be that an infection has set in under the skin creating the lumps. It would be symmetrical as the skin "fits" both sides the same.

Hopefully you will get good news from the results today.

Jess, with her pouch infection she just had a brownish yellow discharge was the only thing thing noticeable other than the fact that she had lost some weight and became dehydrated.

The first time I took her in to the vet for the pouch incident, my vet had said that the pouch itself looked really good. It had the discharge and was dirty inside it but other than that it wasn't red, swollen or irritated, plus it didn't smell.

Wow, I really hope things get better. I can't wait for an update on this one!

Got the results back and they are inconclusive. She goes for surgery on Monday to remove the lumps and send those off for a histopath. I never read so many big words and my vet had never had a report come back with as much going on in it as Iveys. Here is the report. If anyone can make any sense of it I would really appreciate it. All I understood from my vet is that there are cells that indicate the possiblity of cancer.

If it is cancer there is no treatment for gliders. They can't go through treatment like other animals can.

I'm hoping its not cancer. But if it is she will live out her days as painless as possible and if she gets to the point of being in bad health and pain she will cross the rainbow bridge knowing that she was very loved.

But we're not going to think negatively. We are staying positive that it ISN'T cancer.

Alright I looked it up, the part where it says neoplasm just means there is abnormal growth of cells, which can be either malignant or benign.

Some of the other stuff is describing the surrounding tissues, there is lymph fluid and white blood cells trying to break down the abnormal growths.

I'm staying positive with you Sherri, whatever this is, Ivey's body is trying to fight it!

Yes she is! And considering that she is not on any meds for it, she is doing wonderfully!

We had the option of surgery tomorrow or Monday. And since my vet was going out of town Sunday she felt uncomfortable leaving me alone for that day in case SOMETHING were to come up with Ivey.

We decided to go with Monday because my vet can babysit all week there at the office while I am at work during the day.

We also decided that an e jacket may be the better way to go instead of an e collar. Ivey's mate Kudzu stresses very easily the way it is and he got stressed enough to overgroom while Ivey was at the vet office. So an e jacket would possibly mean that the 2 love birds can stay together while she is recovering.

I burst into tears earlier tonight when I took the e jacket off of Ivey. She had another lump (maybe2) appear. This/these are in her pouch. I was besides myself worrying what to do and if I can even handle this anymore. Thank you so much Peggy for letting me get it all out and giving me the strength to continue on. I was at the point of giving up.

So tomorrow morning she will have surgery and probably get samples from one on her chest and one in her pouch. I am a complete mess and have a big day at work tomorrow that I'm not going to be able to concentrate for. If at all possible I'm going to try to be able to be at the vets office as much as I can. Luckily the vet is less than 1/2 a mile away from my work so that helps.

I don't know how much more Ivey can take. I know I'm at my breaking point myself.





In the last picture Ivey bit Kudzu's tail and hung on while he drug her around the bath tub. I think she was mad at him that he didn't try hard enough to get the e jacket off.

Well, I'm glad to see that the e-jacket fits...she's so SMALL compared to Kudzu! I'm taking from the pictures that he isn't messing with it, which is WAY POSITIVE. That at least will give them the chance to be together.

Sherri, I hope that answers can be found and treatment can be given to stop this outbreak of cysts. I'll be with you both in spirit tomorrow.

Thank you Denise! I do have to dig out a bigger pouch though cause when I put Ivey in it to see how she could manage with the jacket on I noticed that all she was able to do was a head stand! LOL. She couldnt maneuver enough in their pouch with that jacket on to get comfortable. It was at that point that I took her out of it.

And yes she is VERY TINY now compared to Kudzu now. She was always smaller than him but never tiny! And my poor man has overgroomed a nice large patch off his head because of everything they are going through. Which I'm sure will get larger even before this is all over.

...surgery on the main part of the body will kill a glider. not enough is known yet by the vets and there is no blood for transfusions.

Over the years I have had two gliders come through here with tumors and had them under Dr. Fronefields care. we kept them comfortable and pain free and let them have as much time as possible.

I'm very sorry about her...I know what your going through. I loved Zoe with all my heart...but sometimes we have to let go long before we're ready.

Mary, that depends on how invasive the surgery is. If the lumps are just under the skin and not in the chest cavity, then surgery is not as dangerous. Chris's (glidrz5) glider Bax just had surgery on his chest to remove what turned out to be a fat deposit.

It is when the vet has to enter the chest or abdomen cavity that it becomes extremely dangerous.

We are hoping that Ivey's is just under the skin.

You tell 'em Teresa...you've seen more and dealt with the illines of so many over the years. My prayer is for the baby to make it.....

I know Lauren, I called MizValorie earlier asking if any updates. I dont wait well.........

I have Sherri's number but I don't want to call her and bother her, hopefully all went well and she's just crooning over the little girl like a spoiled princess.

She is doing fine. She ate some yogies after she woke up and went to cuddling with Kudzu. We didnt put her in an e jacket or e collar yet since she hasnt been messing with them. They took biopsy's of the lumps on her chest and a swab for a C&S on her pouch. I'll come back to fill in the rest after I get done uploading the pics. But she is doing well....me on the other hand just has to much rambling around in my head to put it all down sensibly. I'll be back in a few.

*breaths* OK thank goodness! still praying!

Ok, of course my vet couldn't tell me WHAT is going on yet till the biopsy's come back but I will tell you what she did say.

She said the larger hard spot on her chest basically just popped right out. The smaller hard spot on the other side was pretty easy as well though not as big. There was no bleeding (good), no puss (also good) and when she looked at some fluid and tissue under her dlide she said that though there is alot of cels in there none of them looked like nasty cells. Yes they were abnormal but not by any means what nasty cancer cells normaly look like. She's still not ruling it out completely but did say that she's hoping more for bacterial. She also drained another ml of fluid from the ones on her chest. Which she is hoping theydon't fill back up since it could cause the biopsy wounds to keep opening. Something we will have to watch closely.

Now on to her pouch....

The lump right about the opening she said looked more like an abcess than anything and she tried to get fluid out of it but nothing came out. She swabbed the inside of her pouch for a C&S. The inside of her pouch itself sis not look like an infection and that worries her some. The inside of her pouch has become very tough and inflamed. But there was very little fluid and no debri like the first time I took her in for the pouch infection about a month ago or so. I love her for her descriptions....she said it looked all narly. That can't be good.

Ivey is on an antibiotic 2x a day and a pain med once a day. My vet will babysit the next few days at the office to make sure that everything is going well and neither one are messing with the sites.

Ok, they are up and they are not happy to be in the hospital cage. Kudzu misses his wheel and he doesnt like the fact that this is not his cage and the room doesnt smell the same and the neighbors a couple of feet away do not smell or sound like his neighbors.

At first I put the hospital cage to close to Stuart and LJ's cage but Kudzu let me know real quick that was too close for his liking, ok move them back another couple of feet and he is better.

Onto Ivey, I gave her first dose of meds and she licked it right up. No forcing it, but then again it does taste like rasberries. Her pain mdes are pretty strong and I won't need to give her some till in the morning or afternoon depending on how she is doing. Her site's look pretty good and didnt look like they had really been messed with. The larger one is deeper so I think that one will take longer to heal.

I will be thinking about you all, nice and snuggled up in your beds while I watch these 2 like hawks! LOL

I hope it turns out to be like what Timmy had (sebactious cyst), as they can appear anywhere and generally, once removed, they usually don't come back. Sending tons of prayers for your sweet girl.

Ivey made it through the night just fine with out an e jacket or an e collar. Her and Kudzu have not touched any of the biopsy sites. I am overwhelmed at the lack of attention they have shown anything that has gone on with Ivey. They are such a special pair to me and have given me a renewed sense of strength that Ivey will be just fine!


If I didn't know Kudzu and Ivey as well as I do I would never have attempted this with out an e collar or an e jacket. I know I was taking a huge risk last night not putting her in one or the other, but also felt that since neither one had done anything to her pouch infection OR the lumps prior too the biopsy, I didnt feel they would after. Plus they have a watchful eye on them 24/7. At any interest shown to the sites she will be collared or jacketed!

Awww, thank you. I read and pop in now and then (don't always sign in....sneaky...lol) I hope she will be ok. Really watch her and you may as she gets a few more days out put the jacket on her. They get itchy as they heal and that is what happened with Timmy. She looks good, all things considered. She will remain in my thoughts and prayers. Know all too well how scary the waiting is!

And just to let you know, Timmy is great, never would know he ever had gone through it all (although he just goes into the vets now and he flips on his back and crabs his head off....just daring anyone to reach for him!!! lol My vet says 'oh look, he wants to show me how good he healed. What a good boy......lol'

When I dropped Kudzu and Ivey off this morning at their babysitters (vet's office) I asked my vet about yeast infection (something that was brought up to my attention) and she had said that she didn't see any yeast under the slide. She also had said that she didn't see any rods under the slide. I know I am not at all knowledgeable in these medical things and I dont remember exactly what she had said but the fact that she didnt see any was a good thing too.

My vet is such a wonderful woman and is so baffled by Ivey that she has been thinking non stop about her and trying to put the puzzle together. She told me this morning that she woke up for no apparant reason at about 1:30 this morning thinking about Ivey and wanted to call me to see how she was doing. I told her she could have, I was still awake.

It makes me feel so good knowing that my vet genuinely cares alot about Ivey and me to worry just as much as she has been. I know Ivey is in the best possible hands with my vet and that she will do whatever she can for her.

...thanks for all the update Sherri...I guess my heart stands still on these things. I've seen some that make it and some that don't. Never give up on her and love her with all you got...

Thank you so much Mary! Well night number 2 and all is still well. Her and Kudzu have not attempted to do anything to the sites, I'm not sure if she is even cleaning them herself thats how good they look. Her pouch looks a little wetter than it has been. But she is still eating good, not gaining any weight but not losing any more either. She's still active (a little more so I think) and is has been taking her antibiotics and pain meds like a good girl.

Also, and I know its only been a couple of days but it doesnt look like the lumps have started filling back up. They're still hard but don't look any bigger than when I brought her back home monday afternoon. And I just looked at her pouch and the fluid that is coming out is clear. Don't know what that means, but I think thats a good thing?

Been thinking about you every nanosecond that my head isn't swamped with other things, Sherri.....VERY VERY VERY happy to hear that things are going well so far.

This thing with Ivey is such a rollercoaster, I have no idea what to think anymore. At times something is a good sign and other times it seems hopeless. Her pouch is bulging & hard, whatever's in there takes up almost half her pouch, then you got to wonder about the lump at the top of her pouch and the 2 on her chest. On the plus side I guess, the 2 on her chest and the one on top of her pouch don't look any different.


Praying the results come back SOON! So I know what we're dealing with.

...Think positive for her sake. Going on senses and smell as they do...they know our moods well and you have to keep her believing and fighting to make it. She needs you on her side and you can do it sweetheart. Look into her eyes and talk to her...the tone of your voice will get through to her. Your love and fight will give her hope and strength to to know she has a reason...

Sherry thanks for keeping us all updated. Ivey is in my prayers. I hope she gets better soon and the lumps stay gone. The poor baby has been through enough and so has her mommy!!!

Ivey just sits here in my lap after taking her medicine eating 2 yogi's and the creme out of my double stuff oreo looking at me like "Whats all the fuss about"?

I took these tonight after work about an hour ago. Just wanted to show a progress report with pics. Or lack of progress. This is 3 full days after her biopsy and 3 1/2 days of antibiotics. I had called the vet this afternoon to see if the report had come in yet and it still hasnt yet.

Ivey does have canser. Adenocarcinoma to be exact. Here is her biopsy report.









We are still waiting on the c&s results to come back on her pouch. If her pouch comes back as bacterial or fungal then we will treat her pouch and do surgery to remove the cancer out of her chest. If the test comes back clear that its not bacterial or fungal then we won't do anything else to Ivey and just let her carry on as long as she is not ill. At which time she becomes ill we will help her across the rainbow bridge.
