Here is what I have come up with so far on my Pros and Cons. Please feel free to add suggestions or correct me if I am wrong .
Pros and Cons To consider before purchasing a Sugar Glider Pros Great companion pets Very intelligent Extremely entertaining all with their own personalities Unbelievably cute, sugar glider do come in various color variations They can be carried in a bonding pouch all day long Do not require vaccinations but do require periodical visits to exotic vet to perform fecals and wellness exams Lifespan is up to 15 years if provided with the proper care Cons Nocturnal (meaning they are very active at night) Not inexpensive pets, and do require a lot of special needs The larger the enclosure the better. Cage should not be any smaller than 20x20x36 with bar spacing no larger the ½ inch. Cages can be quite expensive especially after adding accessories ($100-$400) They do tend to drop their food and occasionally fecals outside of enclosure. I best recommend cage covers to protect walls A captive diet is required (supplements, vitamins, meal worms, fruits and veggies. This can get a little expensive and takes preparation. Sugar gliders cannot survive off of pellet food. They tend to potty as they please and that means anywhere including your clothes, belongings, skin, and hair. I have noticed that the most frequent time is when they first awake. Barking, hissing, and crabbing are what you most likely will hear on a regular basis. They are not quiet pets and communicate by sounds. They can BITE and it can result in stitches and band aids. They have their own smell which is produced by their scent glands. They use these glands to mark their territory. Smell may be seemingly worse with breeding males. Do not do well alone. They should be kept in pairs at the least. It is important to factor in the cost of two and not just one. Require an exotic vet that is willing and experienced with treating sugar gliders. Finding a vet may require long distance traveling. It is important to locate a vet before purchasing a glider in case of medical emergency. By them needing a exotic vet the vet bills may be expensive.

Hi. I know you know ALL this but you didnt mention the staple food~ the BML, HPW, Blended or.... whichever is chosen. Also that they require "out of cage time" and a place / tent to do that in. As well as needing just time together with their mommy or daddy... NOT like owning a guinea pig or rabbit or whatever... I have also read that they can get bored easily so having toys to interchange is important. And the worst one, IMO, that they can self mutilate if not given the proper care... Also, the need to use fleece and proper bedding/ pouches as nails getting caught could also lead to s/m. This is all very in my head right now ,as I am looking to get my 1st suggies. I dont mean to sound like a know it all b/c I certainly am far from it... Its just like I said, all right there for me b/c I am looking to get them and need to know what I am getting myself into. I hope this helps!! God, I realize I only listed negative things up there... WOW. That is NOT how I view them at all. I guess I figure the good stuff is more obvious and its the negative that people need to be aware of before they dive in. Of course, the adorableity factor has to be weighed against all that! The LOVE they provide!!

Require an exotic vet that is willing and experienced with treating sugar gliders. Finding a vet may require long distance traveling. It is important to locate a vet before purchasing a glider in case of medical emergency. By them needing a exotic vet the vet bills may be expensive. Also, they often need to see the emergency vet in the middle of the night since that is when most illness/injuries are noticed. Glider knowledgeable E- vets are VERY hard to find and very expensive. You can not just put some food in their cage and go "off" for the weekend. They need DAILY care. So vacations require either taking them with you or having a glider sitter that can care for them while you are away, even if for only ONE night. Airlines will not allow "in cabin" flights with gliders so if you are going somewhere and plan on taking them, they have to fly in a carrier IN CARGO.

Oh, also...
Gliders are not suitable for small/young children. Being nocturnal, they are awake when the kid is asleep and require more responsibility than most young children have.

Thank you Lindsay! I will add your thoughts in on it I have noticed there are a lot of negatives but people just get so side tracked with all the false information out there and these are topics I have to go over with every new owner. There are so many that buy on impulse and are so mislead. I think you are off to a great start, it is always good to do a lot of research before jumping in !!! Thank you Thank YOU Chrissy~ We were nearly those that bought on impulse... Well, my daughter and her dad. (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets were at Albany mall and they saw their demo. I am so glad her dad is NOt an animal person and made her text me to see if she could get one. I didnt see right then that Pocket Pets were so bad but I did see that she needed to do some research and that they werent a snap decision. Pocket Pets actually told her that they had never heard of gliders spitting or throwing food or bathrooming on their person! Surprised?

Pocket Pets actually told her that they had never heard of gliders spitting or throwing food or bathrooming on their person! I put up sheets behind my cages up on the walls to catch what the gliders throw. (a good 3 inches from the cage) I can provide photos if there is any doubt how messy these little critters can be.
