By nature I'm a lazy person - lol. If there is an easier way I am going to find it! But when it comes to cleaning my babies cages and toys they are cleaner than my house . I HATE washing wheels by hand with a passion! My dishwasher has been broken for some time and with just two people in the house I never really used it much anyway. It was great to break down the wodent wheels and put them on the top rack though. Well, for over a year I have been soaking them and washing each one by hand and dreading every minute of it. BUT, today I had an idea (it's usually very dangerous when I have an idea!!). I have a front load clothes washer. I have always washed my toys from Kayla (butlerfamilyzoo) that are made with the plastic hardware cloth in it and they come out just like brand new. So today thought, hummm...why couldn't I take my wheels apart and wash them in there? Being front load it goes round and round and has nothing that would beat at them. As a trial run I took 2 wheels apart and put them in. Put a small amount of detergent (same as I use to wash their pouches) and bleach. Stood there for a minute to make sure everything was going to be ok. Came back after the load was done and they were spottless clean and ready to put back together. I just got done with the rest of the wheels and all of them came out ok, not bent out of shape or anything! Plus they got bleached and went through the rinse cycle twice on hot water! I still wash the stands by hand since I didn't want to chip any paint or listen to them clunk around. OMG...I am in heaven If you do decide to try it I would only recommend the front load type washer and only one wheel to make sure all is going to be ok. It worked great for me

That's a cool idea! I got a spray shower head with a LONG cord for mine, lol (no dishwasher)...and that made it easier for us than the kitchen sink. Anyway...thanks for sharing!

I've only got a top load washing machine and no dishwasher I guess I'm still stuck washing them by hand. It does sound like a good idea tho....I wish I was able to try it out.

Ok, dumb question - what does 'front load' and 'top load' mean, in reference to washing machines?

Top load, you put the clothes in at the top of the machine and they have an adgitator that moves the water around. In a front load machine, you place the clothes in through a door on the front side and the entire interior spins to adgitate the clothing.

You can wash wodent wheels in top loading machines--did it for years until I switched to stealths! Just use delicate cycle, put 'roads' around the exterior (away from agitator) and sides upright toward the center. I washed up to 10 wheels at a time--that's 10 roads, and 20 sides. I used very light bleach, and no detergent, let the washer fill, and then soak for about 10 minutes, then turned it back on...and let it run. I never had a single problem. Likewise on the stands...in fact, we never removed the stands from the cages. They just were washed with the power washer, along with the cages. Wing nuts, and other hardware were handwashed.

I know hubby though I was nuts! He kept saying...you are going to ruin them and have some very unhappy babies that can't run in their wheel. I had a spare so I wasn't worried if I ruined one trying it out - lol.

Now...does anyone have any good way to wash water bottles? I used to wash them by hand then put them in the dishwasher to get the extra hot water over them. Now I wash them by hand then boil hot water and put them in - kind of like you would sterlize baby bottles. Don't think I haven't thought about putting them in the washer too - lol...

Do you put the "nail trimming track in there also? I tried soaking mine and it fell apart!

You can also take them apart and let them soak on the shower floor while you take a shower. After you finish soaping yourself, just soap the plastic parts and everything comes off very easily.

Well, I did but the trim track in the washer and believe it or not they all came out ok. I just knew the sandpaper part would fall apart but didn't. One had a couple spots where it came apart but it was an older one that needs to be replaced anyway.

Don't know if I would recommed putting them in there though but mine came out ok in a front loader
