Flossing is exactly what is sounds like except the glider uses his penis rather than dental floss. That's it.

I don't have much experience with this, but in my males I only noticed it when they began to reach sexual maturity. I don't know if it was done for cleaning or curiosity or just because they can. I have not seen any of my mature males doing this.

I also don't know all about it, but I do know my Hiroshi flossed when he was just reaching sexual maturity. There is (was for me, at least) a slight danger in that the penis may not completely retract. This can become serious, and if not treated immediately (e.g., by putting a little KY jelly on it), a vet visit will be in order. If it remains protracted and is not taken care of properly, then a vet will be needed to amputate part of the penis (the part that is exposed and dried). This is definitely not something you want your little fellow to go through, so keep an eye on it.

I never caught my little Tomoki flossing, but he was neutered as soon as his poms dropped (11 weeks OOP, he was an early bloomer). So I'm guessing flossing is definitely tied to the male's sexual hormones.

My male did this also on a regular basis untill he was neutered at 11 weeks, after that he has not done it since. I was told they do this for 2 reasons cleaning it and also self gratification. I was told it was absolutly normal and not to worrie about it.

My first boy did this at app. 9 months old. I panicked as I had NO CLUE what the kid was doing! LOL I didn't even know it was his penis he had ahold of and I went to take whatever it was away and UP he came from the pouch yelling! (no harm was done, I let go immediately!) LOL

After I came on here and found out what it was, I about died of embarrassment and then bout laughed myself to tears. He never did it after that. (whew!) I always keep KY jelly near the cages though just in case a young male's penis does not retract.

Like Katty said, just keep an eye on him if he does start flossing and make sure the penis isn't drying out or having trouble going back in.

Also, fair warning, sometimes (rarely, but it happens) they use their little hands and feet too....
