I think it's ok (I've heard of many other people who feed it)but they do it as an occasional (once a month) treat as it's very high in fat.

I've only given it to mine once or twice, and usually super fresh-like when I'm making guacamole or taco dip. And even then, it's a small amount.

avocado is okay to give to gliders...the pits are not good for them--

we only give it to our gliders once in awhile as a treat, as said before because it is very high in fat.

It is the pit that is toxic (the skin too I think). The meat of the fruit is perfectly safe and my gliders all go nuts for it. They are high in fat but not all fat is the bad type of fat. Moderation is key if your glider has an issue with being on the ummm, chubby side. I use avacado to help some of my rescues gain weight if they come to me to thin. Again, moderation though.

My gliders would get avacado more then they do if they weren't so dang expensive here. (I would get them more often too!)

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

I'm surpized they can eat it. It's deadly to give to most animals. I'm not even allowed to have one in the house because we have birds.

My vet (a great exotic vet) says avacado is fine even good IN MODERATION meaning no more than a bit once a week at most. And it is the seed and skin that is toxic to most animals not the flesh. We had a dog that would peel and eat them he loved em and had the best coat - avacado is very high in fat but it has a ton of health benifits and is deadly to birds!

Be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

A vet who studied North American Opossums (another marsupial) exclusively for over fifteen years, specifically included avocado in her recommended diet, for the health benefits: for a ten-pound opossum, about 1/4 avocado every 1-2 weeks.
My gliders get avocado every week or so (when the possum does)--roughly one half-inch cube per glider. (Of course, Darcy gets all he wants.)
