hi every body,

i have a couple of questions, i will start with the plats.

1. you only need 1 platinum with a non plat. glider to
produce a plat. correct?
example: platinum male bred with a mosaic(with no plat. het in glider) they can have plat. joeys or even a true
plat. mosaic, is this correct?

creamino- if you breed a creamino with a mosaic(with no
creamino het) i know you will have 100% creamino hets.

could the joeys have the ruby eyes with only 1 partner being a creamino?

thank you,
nancy in detroit

First answer is no. You need a platinum gene on one side and either a plat or a leu gene from the other parent to throw platinum. You cannot get a true platinum mosaic unless your mo carries the plat or leu gene and the mate carries a plat or leu gene. Don't forget plat + plat or leu get platinum.

Next, if you have a cremeino as one parent then it is very possible that a Joey will carry the cremeino gene. Therefore I believe it may be possible to display the ruby eyes. Hopefully someone will confirm.

It's possible to have babies with ruby eyes but not a guarantee that it will ever happen.

Tracy is right when it comes to the plat part. Your plat COLORED mosaics wouldn't be true plat mosaics because there is n plat or leu on the one side.

You can make platinum having leu het + Platinum het.

If you had Plat + leu your babies would only be plat or leu. you'd have no hets.

ok, i checked my mosaic and she only has 12.5% leu het and
is a 3rd gen. wfb.

i am going to say if the plat. has 100% leu het in him and
the mosaic has only 12.50 percent leu het, than it is possible to have a plat. joey, but slim chance?

It's a slim chance but if the gene is there it's there. Either way the het babies would be 50% plat het 50% leu het because you don't know which of the 2 genes the Platinum threw out. If the platinum parent is from a Plat/Leu pairing and not the pure plat line.

The leu gene in the platinum doesn't really come into play. The 12.5% leu het in the mosaic is the one you are hoping proves to be 100%.

thanks for all the info. i am just checking out things in case my trio doesnt work out. i was thinking plat. or creamino and with all this info it is heading toward a
creamino.

so glad i asked this question now because i was very
wrong in my thinking on the platinums.
