Okay, I am off to try that now...

I tried everything and it always kept that smell to it. I even scrubbed it with bleach. I finally gave up and got a Stealth Wheel with their trimmers attatched. It's MUCH better. I now have 3 Stealths. LOL

I think you can put em in the dishwasher too. Just watch out for what kind of washing and drying cycles you use. Heat+plastic=badness?

I switched to a Stealth because of problems with the Wodent wheel. I never could find a way to clean the nail-o-matic track because it has a paper backing and the price for each one is ridiculous when it only lasts a short time before getting really soiled and stinky. I also tried the nail track from Exotic Nutrition because it's washable plastic but worried that their little feet were running directly on the sandy surface. I would highly recommend investing in a Stealth ASAP. You'll be amazed at how much better it is in every way. There's a pinned topic on how to make one yourself or you can buy them HERE

Question about the Stealth Wheel: Is the Trim Track the same as the Nail-o-Matic? It looks very similar in concept. Is the Stealth Wheel trim track washable and how does one go about cleaning it?

The trimmer is nothing like the one on the Wodent and it can be kept on the wheel as where the Wodent's can't.
I clean mine with a quick wipe down with Lysol when I'm wiping the cage down. My Stealth's are connected to my cages with zip ties so I can't just take them out any time I want to. It's so much easier because their bodily wastes go right through the holes so they don't keep running in it as they use the wheel. And the best thing is it's silence. No noise!

The trimtrax and the nail-o-matic are similar ideas. The nail-o-matic is a sandpaper track with a plastic grid overlay that fits inside the wodent wheel on top of the running surface. The sandpaper has a paper backing and the plastic grid is sewn to the sandpaper.
The trimtrax in two rectangles of sandpaper with a plastic backing that attach with plastic screws to the outside of the stealth wheel. Since the running surface of the stealth is already the plastic grid material, glider feet don't touch the paper directly, only their toenails, and since the trimtrax is not continuous around the entire outside of the wheel, poo and pee can still fall through the open portions of the running surface. I take my stealth wheel out every other week to clean it in the sink and at that time I lightly scrub the trimtrax with Dawn dish detergent.

The nail-o-matic is easy to clean! You wash it just like you would all the other toys. I've even put mine in the washing machine before! I wash it and then spray the disinfectant from suncoast, let it dry, and then rinse it off real good. All the smells are gone!

Not only that, but my nail-o-matic lasted about 4 in a half months!

I did soak the Nail-o-matic in soapy water yesterday and surprisingly it held up pretty well. The urine smell is very, very subtle now and I actually think it will be bearable so I may stick with this for a while.
Partyofsix, may I ask how often you used and washed your nail-o-matic to allow it to last four and a half months? I usually put mine in on Friday and remove it on Monday, cleaning it at that time. Did you have a similar schedule? I am trying to estimate how long mine will last and if I want to switch to Stealth Wheel after my Nail-o-matic wears out.

I wash it once a week and it is left in there 24/7. After it's dry it looks and smells good still. I think that the disinfectant from suncoast really works with the smells. Also I spray pureayre in there all the time and that really gets rid of the urine smells. Hope this helps!

Oh and another thing I want to add is if they poop a lot in their wheel you might have to get a new nail-o-matic sooner.

Thanks! I think I will stick with the Wodent Wheel for now, but when I have the $$$ I simply must have a Stealth I am curious as to how long my Nail-o-matic will last, but when it is kaput I don't think I will be repurchasing.

I just got my wodent wheel and nail trimmer track thing last night, and it was so quiet compared to my old wheel (the "silent" spinner). I have a question though...about how often do you put the nail trimmer in?

Hi Bethany! I usually put my trimmer in on Friday night and remove it on Monday morning. In my experience, three nights on the wheel is enough to keep their nails trimmed well but not too short.
You may have to experiment to see what works best for you... all suggies are different when it comes to wheel use, and if yours is a true wheel addict (on it all night long) it may take only one night or two at the most to keep the nails trimmed. If yours is a little bit on the lazy side and doesn't use the wheel much, it may take longer. Just watch closely and be careful not to let them get too short because they won't be able to grip properly when climbing or when landing and might be injured.
Happy gliding!
