We have been thinking of some changes lately that we can do to GliderCENTRAL to keep up with the times while keeping the board on the same course and keeping our rule 4 policy. In the beginning of the year we took a small step to test the waters with some changes for GliderCENTRAL which can be found here. We think we have come up with some changes that everyone may appreciate, and this is a much larger step for us!

First thing here is we are trying to move more to a "PG" rated board instead of a "G" rated board as many things have changed over the years. We are now seeing more words considered non G rated being used on News and TV shows. We have decided to remove some words off of the censor and have debated removing more, but we just dont see how allowing those words to be posted is needed at this time.

We have also discussed on how far GliderCENTRAL should be going to protect and keep younger viewers from stumbling across things. In today's world a parent should have checks put in their computer to limit their access to areas of the internet, back in the day this was not something parents did or was practical for them. If they can read or see that info via posted here, they can also read it anywhere on the web. Parents should be restricting blogs, news sites, video sites, and photo sites not us.

So we have decided that we will be allowing links to news sites, blogs, and sites such as esty as long as the page being linked to complies with rule 4. What does this mean? As long as the initial page being linked complies with rule 4 it will be ok. As always we will rely on notifications to help us if such content is found.

The next change we plan on doing is to allow the use of non glider related videos to be posted here on GC in Community Hall. We will also be allowing the use of other video hosting providers such as photobucket, vimeo, yahoo after Eddie is able to code those video providers in. All videos must be embedded though.


The last change we plan on making is some new smilies that will either replace some that we have that will stay constant, or find seasonal ones meaning Eddie would swap the images out a few times a year. Not seasonal as in thanksgiving, christmas, etc. Just something to bring change every once in a while to the board.

Here is what we have come up with for the rule changes. The left side is the old rule and the right side is what will become the new rules for both rules 4 & 7. On the left the red means it's been removed and not on the new. On the right the red means it was added to the line and the green box means newly added to section.

Sometime later we will make the changes to the rules page and sometime tomorrow night users will need to click the box agreeing to the rules.

I love this. Not gonna lie, I was kind of offended (but tried not to be)when I got in trouble ( ) for saying, "H***" (<-- and I used the asterisks) I'm not a potty mouth I swear! I mean I don't swear!

Please don't ever be offended when you get a pm from a mod, its usually just a friendly reminder of the rules and to let you know why your post was edited. If a word comes up as censored that usually means the word is not allowed here so when posted that way it looks to be skirting the censor and a pm is sent to say why it was edited

I guess offended isn't the exact word I was looking for...more like defensive, like, "Hey I'm one of the good guys, I'm with you! I'm a mom and I'd never say anything here that I wouldn't say in front of my own kids!"

I'm super stoked about the all the upcoming changes... yup, pretty damn happy. :O)

WHile all this sounds exciting, i still dont understand why you can say hell or damn but the A word (the one for butt or donkey) is censored? I am not trying to start a great debate here but it seams to me that A and hell are physical things, while damn is by definition a curse.

Honestly, I dont understand why a censor is needed in the first place. Not saying GC should not have one, but instead asking why people cannot learn to curb their language on their own. We are adults here and should know when it is and is not appropriate to say certain things.

As for censoring what kids say. Hummmmmm. They dont use bad language in front of their parents or their pastors, but have you ever listened to them in school? UGH.

Here are the SMILEY CODES and you can also (below the box where you type) click on "Switch to Full Reply Screen" and on the left hand side is a smiley. Click there and you can find all of them that way, too.

Other words were discussed for removal, but after some talk we just decided there was no need for some of the words to be used here. We do not look at the dictionary term of the word, we look at the context of the word. We really do not see any way that word and others could be used positively here.

There may be one or two ways the context of that word could be used in a non negative way, but context in posts as always is a difficult thing to read. You never know what the future will bring as far as changes to the board and or the censor. 2011 has brought a lot of change here to GC in two stages, while the doors will never be swung open all the way, we will continue to adapt with the time while keeping the family oriented board as it was started.



I don't understand it either Jill Marie, but before you say we should just ask them to curb their language you must stop and think about it. Obviously words have been added for a reason. Obviously many were not able to curb their language.

This is a forum about sugar gliders, a place to help others, share with other glider owners and learn. While many of the words in our censor I use in my everyday vocabulary I can curb myself here as I see no reason for that language to be used here.

Same goes for the rest of rule 4. We are adults here right? We should be acting like adults right? Than why are there people constantly bashing others, harassing others, and being down right disrespectful to others? We have asked people to curb that behavior here for years, yet it still happens so its obvious that asking people to curb their language will not work. I wish it would, but it wont.
