hi everyone,
my brother has 3 sugar gliders and right now is living in new england and is moving cross country to washington state due to some personal issues. he'll be driving and he plans on stopping every night. he's expecting it to take him 5-6 days at the most.
he asked me for help on how to travel with his sugar gliders, but i don't know because i've never done it myself.
are there any tips that anyone can give me that i can relay back to him? any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

He can use a pop up dog kennel like this: SportPet Pop-Open Kennel

Pick one of the larger sizes.

Don't wash their fleece, use it in the kennel on the journey and once he gets into his new place he will want to keep their dirty fleece in the cage for at least a week.

With it smelling like them they should acclimate faster.

Take water with him or use bottled water and feed their regular diet on trip.

I traveled from Florida to Michigan with my gliders, I kept them in a bonding pouch during the car ride and when I stopped I gave them some water, at night I just set up their cages in the hotel which was a pain in the butt, I recommend getting something that's easy to put up and down like the pop up tent Feather posted about. They were fine in the car, they just slept pretty much the whole way in their bonding pouch.

A small travel cage secured in the back seat is safer than carrying them in a bonding pouch only.

bonding pouches should NEVER be worn while driving or riding in the front seat of a car because, IF there were an accident, the force of impact from air bags would most likely be fatal to the gliders.

You might also check on hotel/motel arrangements along the route. Not all are pet friendly and many charge huge fees to have pets in the room.

He's going to be traveling in a uhaul... So there isn't a back seat. He will just have to keep them in a bonding pouch I guess. :\

A small cage that will fit on the floor in front of the passenger seat would be safer that traveling in a bonding pouch.

Glider CAN get the zippers open on some bonding pouches.

Gliders may also get very restless in such a confined space over long periods and a small cage would at least give them some room to get out of the pouch and stretch.

There are small cages designed for transporting small animals or even a small hamster cage would do for the travel time.

Whenever I travel with my gliders I use a travel cage. These are trips over a couple hours onto a couple days. I wouldn't recommend a bonding pouch as they would already be confined in a travel cage..imagine how stressed they would be in a bonding pouch. frown How would they get food, drink and go potty? If they are like most gliders, they would not want to go potty in their pouch smile

This is very small and not for overnight, but in the vehicle would be better than a bonding pouch. You would at least be able to hang a pouch, have a water bottle, food dish, and space for it to get out and move.
