I have my kiddos on Priscillas diet. My vet feels that the 50% Leadbeater's mixture/50% insectivore diet is a better choice. It seems that more people (according to the poll) use the wambaroo diet. Obviously this is quite a heated topic. I just wonder why people would pick one over the other? What exactly is in the wambaroo mix? For those who use the insectivore/omnivore diet which brand do you recommend? Any thoughts and suggestions would be A-MAZING!

It seems that more people (according to the poll) use the wambaroo diet. Actually, the poll shows that the HPW Complete™ is used by most. The HPW™ actually stands for "Here's Peggy's Way" I just wonder why people would pick one over the other? Its honestly just a personal preference. What exactly is in the wambaroo mix? If you are asking about the HPW™ powders, you can find all the ingredients to them here: HPW™ Diet Info If you are asking about the High Protein Supplement from Australia, those ingredients can be found here: http://www.wombaroo.com.au/high_protein_supplement.htm

The MOST heated topic People pick one over the other for various reasons. Availability of products, perceived cost, and most important, whether or not their gliders EAT it. What exactly is in the wambaroo mix? If you mean the HPW diets, Peggy covered that, or do you mean the "Aussie" diet? Check out the " diets" forum section for all the info on popular diets. LMAO.... I thought it was HighProteinWambaroo. Oh silly me. See how much I DONT know!!!! Actually, you're correct, it is High Protein Wombaroo......I *think* Peggy was kidding Let me try to clear up the confusion. The Original HPW diet was created by Peggy utilizing the Wombaroo High Protein Supplement made by Passwell in Australia. This supplement is used in many other diets as well and I think it's a wonderful product. If you're looking for that, you can purchase it HERE. Years later, Peggy created her own powders manufactured here in the US to be used in lieu of the one from Australia. They're called HPW Plus and HPW Complete. The Plus requires the addition of eggs, honey, and bee pollen (like the Original did) and the Complete just gets mixed with water. Peggy gave the link for where to find those above. (Hence the "Here's Peggy's Way" with the newer powders). As I mentioned above, there are many diets that utilize the Wombaroo High Protein Supplement. My personal favorite, which my gliders get, is called the Australian Wombaroo diet. You can read about that one HERE . And, as mentioned, no one is really 'better' than the other, it's just preference for you and your gliders.

My vet feels that the 50% Leadbeater's mixture/50% insectivore diet is a better choice. Did your vet provide you a recipe for the Leadbeater's mixture? This information is in some of the reference books vets use to learn about care of sugar gliders which are still relatively new to many vets. Unfortunately, the recipe for Leadbeater's calls for High Protein (baby) Cereal - which is a product no longer available in the US or Australia. One recommended substitute for the High Protein Cereal IS Wombaroo High Protein Supplement - but using only half of the amount called for because WHPS is more dense than the finely flaked baby cereals. HPW is quite similar to Leadbeater's and would be a good substitute for it. You might share the HPW recipe with your vet since it probably is not in his reference materials. As for the insectivore products - your gliders may be different, but my gliders would not touch the semi-moist ZooKeeper's Secret (one of the insectivore products) and I usually threw it all away daily after it dried out over night. I have not tried the Wombaroo Insectivore food that has just recently become available - which could probably be used with any feeding plan as a supplementary feeding.

Back in 2004/2005 when the Original first came out the HPW™ did indeed stand for High Protein Wombaroo. Once I came out with my own products the meaning of the HPW™ changed to mean 'Heres Peggys Way' as not all of my HPW™ diets contain the High Protein Supplement by Wombaroo.

I use and have used Priscilla's diet for many years. I have had bloodwork done (for various reasons) on several of my gliders. They all have done wonderful on it and bloodwork has always been perfect, as well. diet is a very touchy subject for many. I am happy with the diet I feed, my gliders are healthy and happy and eat great every night.

Me too. My girls have been doing great on Priscilla's diet. I don't have experience with other diets, but I hear a lot of great things about plenty of them. My opinion is that if you're happy with Priscilla, you should stick with it. If you think a change might benefit you babies, go for it. My advice is to avoid frequent switching between diets. Just do your research, pick a diet, and unless an issue arises, stick to it.

I personally feed the Reeps diet. I've tried HPW diet that needs bee pollen, but after a while, the one responsible for feeding stopped and the gliders became my sole responsibility. Around that time I noticed that it wasn't the easiest to prepare and it honestly seemed like the gliders didn't really care for it (around that same time I became a lurker on here and started realizing that the plate should be clean, not just missing the fruits/veggies and occasional yogurt) so I started looking around and researching. I found the Reeps diet and started feeding that. It was much easier to prepare and I started getting clean plates every night. They were on it for a 6 months to a year before the vet visit and all 3 were rated as having perfect body shape/condition. I think it's just a matter of preference (both yours and the gliders). If you like the diet and they eat it well and are healthy and happy on it, then I'd stick with it.

I feed the HPW diet. I don't get clean plates (or troughs in my case) every night, but most nights I'll see at least some of the HPW licked up and most of their food eaten. In Kiki and Buster's cage though I think it's mr fatty eating it all. I thought about changing diets, but I like the idea of being able to feed these guys just about any fruit or veggie I want, and if I run out of HPW powder, I just boil up an egg or two to last them until I get it in. Boy do they love their plain eggs...
