[:"green"]After helping hollyjean yesterday morning (read about her experience HERE), I decided that maybe I should post some information about what to do in the event that this happens to you...
Please keep in mind that toilet lids should be kept closed at all times when not in use; however, as humans, we sometimes forget...
So, what to do if you find your glider in the toilet???
Hopefully you will find it in time and be able to rescue it from near-drowning. The first thing you need to do is use a hand-towel and briskly rub the glider to get it as dry as possible. Then, place the glider into a clean, dry pouch and wrap a heating pad (set on low) around the outside of the pouch. Hold the entire contraption against your chest and talk soothingly to your glider to help it calm down. Once your glider is dry and warm, take it into the vet for a check up. This is very important since toilets are a haven for bacteria - even a well-cleaned toilet will contain bacteria, so don't assume that your glider hasn't been exposed. Ask the vet to prescribe a broad-spectrum antibiotic to use for several days. This is because after exposure to the bacteria, the tests during the vet check will not necessarily yield any infection yet, but the exposure could lead to infection and it's better to be safe than sorry. Keeping your glider warm for the next 24 hours is also crucial. Toilet water is [:"blue"] COLD [:"green"] and prolonged exposure to the cold water could lead to pneumonia. Keep a close eye/ear on your glider for 24 hours to make sure that it does not show any signs of pneumonia. Symptoms include heavy OR shallow breathing, labored breathing, blue or purple nose (indicating lack of enough oxygen) and shivering.
Hopefully, you won't need this information, but it's better to know what to do "just in case"...

Yes, this is GOOD information! Is there ANY way to pin this thread so we don't have to search for it IF it is ever needed?

Thanks, Suz-I'd like to add...in addition to the vet and antibiotic, make sure the vet listens to the lungs in case water got in as well. Very valuable info. To save this...I'd print it and keep it in a glider folder for emergencies-then if you don't have time to log on, or something isn't working, you have it to hand in hard copy.

I remember reading about a ladder for the toilet in case a glider fell in. I haven't seen anything about that lately. Are those still out there?

I found it! Ladder
It was in the other post. Thought I'd add it here too though.

That was good and very interesting to new mom and dads. I have to say I didnt even think about the toilet/lid. I was waiting to read if you were going to explain mouth to mouth CPR. Did the little one that fell in survive...Im assuming that was the cause of this post.?? Just wandering. Ill keep the lid down Im been focused in telling the boys to keep the seat down grrrrrrrr new trick to teach. Thanks for the info

Actually, you can clean the ladder with the brush along with the rest of the toilet-and it does give peace of mind. At least they can climb out instead of drowning-giving you a chance to get to them. If a glider falls in the toilet, they won't be clean anyway, but at least with a ladder they'll be alive.

Hi all. Just to update on my "POTTY GAL". She continues to do great. A bit fluffier than before but, alright As Suz says, we all make mistakes and keeping these instructions close at hand will save your baby if it ever happens. Please don't think "oh it would never happen to us". Never is a long time, espicially when you are very tired and want even a few moments with your babies.
Again, from the bottom our hearts, thanks for being there for us Suz.
