I am in the process of saving up for another glider, to have a buddy for my new glider, Sadly with school, work and bills everything seems to be taking chunks of money out of me so Saving up 200-500 dollars can take at least a month for me, so until then I want to give my sugar glider everything possible i can to keep her entertained and happy until then.. if possible, does anyone recommend anything. I know one thing for sure is a wheel, I keep debating between the wodent wheel or stealth wheel(of course much more expensive too :/) any input is welcomed ^_^ thanks!

Im curious about this as well, just got my first suggie a few days ago. Right now all I have for him is his hammock and a ball to run around in.

If you're debating between a Wodent and a Stealth, DEFINITELY go with the Stealth. The Wodent Wheel has be known to cause injuries to gliders and doesn't allow them to jump as they naturally would due to the axle in the center.

Also, the wodent will get nasty because it's a solid track and needs to be cleaned every single day. The Stealth has a mesh track so all the pee and poo falls thru and it will need to be cleaned much less frequently.

Although it's more expensive, it's one of those things that's definitely worth the extra money.

And, Sanctity - definitely get a wheel for your little one. A wheel is the single thing gliders use the most and great for exercise. Those hamster type balls can also cause injury to paws and toes.

Here's a good checklist of all the items you'll need: Checklist

Please do not get a wodent wheel for your gliders. Yes, they are cheaper, for the wheel..... too many gliders have had to have tail amputations on their gliders due to their tails getting caught up in it so the cost for the vet makes the choice a lot more expensive if it should happen to you.

Save on vet bills and go with the sugar glider safe wheel now. There are many out there to choose from and prices vary. Fast-Track, Raptor, Stealth, Custom Cruiser and the H-Wheel.

As for things to have in the cages, you want to have a couple toys that are interactive hanging up and a couple floor toys for your glider. Do not over do it as you also need cage space for your gliders to jump around in the cage and if too many things are in there they will not be able to. And of course a wheel is a must.

You can also give your glider a variety of small toys that cost very little. Party favor plastic bracelets, the monkeys from a Barrel of Monkeys Game (or the dollar store versions that come in elephant, bunny and other shapes) make great reset toys. Hang a chain of monkeys with a bracelet in the chain. Gliders love to take them apart and carry them around. Practice golf balls (like mini wiffle balls) are a favorite. Baseball size wiffle balls stuffed with fleece scraps to pull out. Plastic army men can just be put on top of the cage for gliders to pull through the bars. Plain plastic straws are also a big hit. You get to be creative in finding things to entertain your gliders at night.

Don't forget about the free toy you get every time you buy a jug of milk! Gliders love milk rings! Just remember to cut it so they don't end up with a very uncomfortable necklace or belt. wink

Yeah the wheel is definitely a must. All my gliders use it a lot. Nani uses it so much it's like her life ambition is to hold a record for the most rotations per night. It's important to be one of the good ones so it's big enough and safe for them to leap from one side to the other.
As far as free toys go, don't forget straws!

I went ahead and bought a stealth wheel my only concern is if it would fit in one of the layers in the cage xD it seems pretty big

Yes they are big. What kind of layers do you have? Do you mean those little shelf things? How big is the cage you will be putting it in?

I TOTALLY agree about the Wodent Wheel.

There are several toys you can purchase. You will need to purchase other items for their cage to keep them fully entertained and to maintain and enriching habitat.
  • Baby links (used to hang toys)
  • Plastic basket and golf-sized wiffle balls (ball pit)
  • Barrel of Monkey/Egg-o-Bunnies (hang from the top of the cage)
  • Hard plastic bracelets (hang from the monkeys/bunnies)
  • Army Men/Firemen (they will carry these around)
  • Bird toys with plastic ~ NO rope (wood is ok, but will hold odor/urine)
  • Fake Vines ~ NO wire in the "stem" (hang in cage, glider will play on and rip leaves off)
  • Plastic chain from hardware store (will climb on and can hang toys from)
  • Beads, Lanyard/Craft lace (to make toys)
  • Bell (to add to home-made toys)
  • Sturdy Plastic shot glasses (used as foraging cups in toys)
  • Wiffle balls (add pieces of fleece/drinking straws for them to remove)
  • Drinking Straws (put through wiffle balls for them to chew and remove)

For toy making and practically unlimited uses, braided fleece vines go a long way:

Make single (I prefer fat vines, but thinner ones can be versatile too) braided vines, hang dangle or stretched across cage, when taught, I've seen my gliders climb across them.

You can hang almost any way, and hang almost anything from them to create activity vines, and they're so simple to make, no sewing needed.

I connected several to make a ladder, but larger, longer or even smaller ones can be made as well as webs or nets of them.

Here is one of my favorites

I've hung foraging cups from them as well. Also have had this across cage, but this time I'm using tightly on cage wall for an activity center. I can change out the toys and items for variation and it's easy to wash!

Oh, here is a smaller, thinner braided vine, this is fun for hanging stuff from.
