Hello! My name is Neolia and I live in Albuquerque, NM. Although I don't have any gliders yet but I wanted to introduce myself. I'm hoping that I will someday! I've been checking this forum and a few others for the last few months to learn as much as I can from the many experts that gather here. It's been a fascinating learning process to say the least!

I don't have any plans to adopt a pair right now, but I was interested in hearing from some of the other members here from NM about where they got their gliders and what they know about the import/export licensure our state requires. I've heard conflicting things from a number of random sources (including our Game and Fish dept.) and wondered if anyone could shed some light on out-of-state or even in-state adoptions?

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about those licensing laws to give you an answer. Hopefully someone who is from your state will be on soon and will have that info you need.

In the meantime, you could try contacting one of the vets in Albuquerque listed Here

I'm not sure what they could tell you, but maybe could steer you in the right direction if they don't know for a fact what they are. They may have some clients that are breeders and can possibly direct you to them. You could also do a "google" search in your area for breeders of Sugar Gliders, I do not see any listed in our database, but maybe you can find one if they're any.

I didn't think to try speaking to local vets - that's good advice. I've been looking for breeders here but so far I've had no luck. The closest reputable breeders I've been able to locate are in Texas, which is why I'm curious about the permit issue. I've looked the permit paperwork over and it seems straight-forward, I just wondered if anyone had any experience with the process. Very rarely I will find joeys on Craigslist, but so far no one has answered my questions about the origins of the babies they're selling. I'm extra suspicious since PP was at our State Fair in September. Rescuing a glider at some point isn't totally out of the question, but I want to keep my options open. I will keep looking and try getting in touch with some of the local vets. If anyone knows any other members from NM, will you send them my way? Many thanks!
