Can anyone tell me if Powder Coated vs. PVC Cages are better to withstand rust and corrosion from glider urine? Pros and cons would be appreciated.

Hi Thor,

I have had both cages. Here are the Pros and Cons

PVC Coated Cons:
There is toxic wire on the market that makes the gliders sick.
It absorbs odors.

PVC Pros:
Can make any size cage you want.

Powder Coated Pros.
Glider safe
Easy to clean
Doesn't hold odors

Powder Coated Cons:
Limited in size to what is on the market, unless you modify two cages.

As long as you get the PVC Coated wire from C.E. Shepard, you will be fine. The "toxic wire" is/was manufactured by Riverdale - gliders that were in these cages suffered from serious neurological issues and even death. So the wire choice is very important.

With that being said, I have some PVC coated wire cages and I absolutely love them. They are very easy to clean and I don't find an offensive odor from them at all. (I only use scalding hot water to clean cages.)

The life span of these cages is amazing. I have two that are about 10 years old and still look like new. They are probably the longest lasting cages.

As for powder coated cages, it will depend on which you get. There are some that are a lesser quality, and those will not last nearly as long. My recommendation for powder coated cages are those made by HQ. They have proven to be excellent quality and well worth the money for them.
