Well other than having trouble with fleece bunching, the biggest pain for me is getting the hanging tabs even. I feel like I pin them in the same, but they end up crazy off.
What I'm wondering is if the fleece will rip if I were to cut slits instead and then tie fleece strips through the slits. I'm not sure if the tension will extend or tear the the slits farther along. It is just something I'm considering but wanted to ask.
Another option I'm considering is sewing up sides and leaving space for fringe cutting where tabs would be. I haven't experimented with either of these options, and would like some input from those experienced with working with fleece. I have quite a bit and I'd really like to get some very customized sized pieces for my specific cage needs. (Most corner hammocks are too large to place taught in the front corners, where I like to place feeding stations. Also most bridges are too wide for some cage setups I have going on).
Any input, advice or suggestions are welcome, thanks.

Thanks. I went ahead and experimented. I couldn't leave fringe to make ties where tabs would go and turn out right for inside seams, dah, what was I thinking I did go ahead and poked holes with a ice pick and then put scissors through to make double slits. Being it's double the fabric and stitched I felt it would hold alright. These are for hammocks (3 corners each set) and bridge (1 per set) anyway, I'm not sure what I'll do for pouches in the future, but these I had already made pouches for the start of the two sets I'm working on. When all is said and done, I'll post photos of them, I think they're turning out alright. I only have one item with the slits, the rest I just sewed up and will do the rest tomorrow maybe and start on finishing the next set. I haven't decided if I'm going to add to these sets, I may make one or two more items depending on how I feel about it Sew far (ha ha) I don't really know how I feel about sewing, I kind of don't like it, but it's nice to be able to make your own cage sets in a way. I just don't know that I'll make too many more of them, I may just stick to toy making, it's more therapeutic for me than sewing.

Thanks for that, very helpful info. I'm thinking grommets maybe down the road, if it's not too late by the time I can get what I need for that.

So, so far I've gotten two sets sewn up without tabs that I'm still in the process of slitting holes through. I feel these should work for a while, but won't be sure until they're completed, laundered and tried. As I've been doing this, I have realized I don't really enjoy sewing, I want to be able to sew, and like doing it, but I just don't. I'm thinking that most likely the rest of my fleece fabric will be used for no-sew projects and toy making and in the future I will just purchase custom fleece sets from the wonderful vendors around. vendors, your craftiness is highly appreciated!

Lol! I have a cousin that eats and sleeps sewing! She doesn't understand me because even though I love to sew, I have to take a break! Sometimes it can be a chore, and that's when things go wrong. I just bought some pouches and a cage set from Etsy just so I didn't have to go to Joanns. In the long run it saves me money. I have a tendency to "buy" too much, or see too many inspirations and future projects. I am on a "fabric diet" till I complete some projects and get my stash under control!

Me too! I tried sewing in bulk (3 or 4 pouches per set) when one got messed up, i would put them all away. My problem was with the box corners. With the tabs, i put them on the back. Trying to put them on the sides like the tutorial just made a stringy thread mess because my machine doesnt go through 6 layers of fleece without a fuss. The fleece would stretch and the seams would get wonky as well. Im waiting now for my new set that will be the start of a new color scheme. I do have a grommet machine (i think... Its a really big hole punch thing?) if they are safe for gliders it could be the start of a new creative streak. I will be picking up my last few supples for my toys today. Thanks for the inspiration!

After reading about getting cage sets from Etsy, I took a look and found someone on there that uses stainless grommets on her sets, she has really cute stuff. Also, one of my favs is now on there, so when I can go shopping again for stuff, I may just shop at etsy as well.
I may eventually see about getting a grommet tool set and pick up some stainless grommets myself. I'd like to see if they can be used in the pieces I made. I did however make smaller sized corner hammocks than the usual for fitting them in the front where I've been using them, and my two bridges I made smaller and narrower as well, so the grommets may not really look okay in those sets.
Enjoy shopping, I always do.

Thanks Dawn. I'm not sure when I'm going looking for it though, I have a list of things I'd really like to get even more, like a nice dremmel tool, since I do prefer toy making. I'm debating on looking at grommet tools down the road possibly. Here is the link to the page where they make stuff (said) using stainless grommets. Pinoy Pet Cuddle Cup

So here is one of the (small) cage sets in the cage. The pouches of both sets do have the tabs sewn on the back, that is where I realized what an issue they are for me and decided on the slit and tie method, lol. The skinny bridge, two of the small corner hammocks and pouch on this side. The third small corner hammock on the other side. A bonus blur of wheel in action during tent time, lol.

Im not sure how true it is but a few of my suggie breeder customers have expressed how much they do not like any extra metal in their glider cages (grommets and metal hooks) due to a toxic it gives off and causes bladder problems. Like I said, I'm not 100% sure of details but maybe something to look into before adding that much more metal to the cage? Goodluck!

Thanks, I'm not even sure I'd bother with it anyway, but would get stainless if I did. I don't like using metal in the cage anyway, except maybe a shelf that is coated safely, that comes or made for the cage.
