Oh no, Kris. I'm in tears reading this. I cannot express my sympathies enough in words, as I've read all the stories of Zoey and Smoke, and know from your words how much they mean to you, how much you love them. I am so, so deeply sorry and I hope you find out what the cause was, although it won't change him being missing from your life.

Let yourself cry, go through the mourning process, you need to. It's good though, that you realize he's move on to a better place, where I believe we will see our beloved animal family members again.

I would like to share with you that I have had the occasions in dreams to visit with departed loved ones. The first time I ever did was with my dad (actually two separate dreams), the first was about a week after he left this world. He visited with me (dream) and my sister (one of three) was with me, and he was sitting in his chair and had my sister's parakeet "Happy Bird" with him. Another time, many years later, and many, many years after my dog Smokey left this world, I had a dream where I was able to visit with her. This was a strange dream, but a really good and pleasant one and one I'd like to have again if I could. I also had a dream the morning/after my little Draco passed. I had to have him euthanized and took him to the vets the evening before I had to leave early the next morning for Kentucky. The vet said he'd need to be gassed as his heart rate was so low, he thought it could take quite awhile. On the trip early the next morning I dozed off in the car and dreamed that Jesus told me he was holding him in his hand.

I know they're dreams, but I believe there is a purpose to them, even if it's to bring peace. I however also believe it means they live on, with our other passed loved ones and that we have the chance to see them again.

Kris, again, I wish there were words to bring you comfort right now.

Thank you for your kind words Terry, they really mean a lot. I didn't want my boy to go but I know there's nothing I can do to bring him back so now I just want him to be happy until I can see my precious baby again.

Kris Again Im really really really Sorry you lost smoke.. I know you loved him and miss him terribly... I never got the chance to meet you or him in person but I could tell just from how you and I would talk that he was very very very special to you... and I know you did everything you could for him.

I agree with Terry... dont worry about crying...its normal... and as of right now you thinking about him and all the things you used to do will make you really sad... So cry! Its fine.... and soon enough when the wound of his loss heals you'll look back on how crazy he was with a sad smile...then a real one.

Also to add on To Terrys statement about meeting deceased pets in dreams.. I had that with our dog Lucy...we had to put her down because of a stomach tumor-(I wont go into detail as its not my place to turn this into a convo about me.) She was ...13 years old.. But after she died we kept her ashes in the curio by the front door..and from there and until we buried her with my cat..She haunted me... I'd see her in the kitchen laying on the floor..I'd step over her in the livingroom...I'd see her in her favorite chair... and I had dreams about being with her... Realistic dreams, where I could feel her fur...it smelled like her... and it was as though she was still right there...Then I'd wake up and be sad...but I was also really glad to have those dreams because it meant that she was okay...

The vet called, he determined the true cause of death to be organ failure, NOT Giardia. Smoke's pancreas was severely infected. At this time the cause of infection is unknown but i should find that out when the histopath is done.

Kris, I know I am new here, but I am very sorry for you loss. I have seen your post about both your gliders and I know just how much you care for both of them. Kris, first of all, I am SO SORRY to hear about Smoke. It is never ever easy to lose a beloved pet.

Secondly, thank you for having the proper necropsy and histo done. I know the emotions are raw, and I hope you dont mind me asking, but will it be possible to get a copy of both reports to send over to both Dr. Tristan and Dr. Dierenfeld for them to keep in their records. We are trying to collect as much information as possible. I am sure they will have me send over a questionnaire for you to fill out as well. Dr. Tristan has been collecting them for years and years, Dr. Dierenfeld is just starting. I do know we have had reports of the comment you made below show up before. So please know you are not alone.

Yes, I asked Dr. Tidwell to make a copy of the results. He told me on the phone that he took some pictures showing the infection so once I gather the reports I will forward them to you. Dr. Tidwell did the gross necropsy at no cost and he will be sending off tissue samples to a pathologist as soon as possible.

I am actually very relieved to know the true cause of death as his symptoms did not match Giardia, it is very comforting to me.
