Hi everyone. So I have somewhat of a dilemma here. In early spring I made plans to go camping with my family next week. We all do one vacation a year Up North together, it's sort of a week long family reunion camping trip. Anyway, when I had made the plans to go my Lucy wasn't prego yet and I wasn't expecting her to get pregnant. Now that she is, I am not sure what to do. Lucy is very attached to me, while she does seem to be bonding tightly to her new mate I am not yet comfortable leaving her alone for a week. Before I adopted Luka, my male, it was just me and her for three years and she developed a very close bond with me to the point where if I left her alone for more than a day she would stop eating. Now that she has a joey in the pouch that is not a risk I can take even though she has a new buddy. So my two options are to either bring both of them with me (Lucy is used to traveling, I don't know about Luka) or to cancel the trip and stay home with both of them. She has had the joey in pouch for two weeks now. I'm just not sure what to do. Should I just be safe and stay home, or do you think it would be fine to take them with me for a week? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Can you bring their regular cage or would they be stuck in a small cage? Their regular cage is best but if you have to, they can stay in a popup kennel with their wheel and a couple of toys for the week. It's not a super long time. Ask Lucy if she wants to go, talk to them about it.

If you opt to take them, take all of their fleece from their cage so that their travel cage smells like them.
Another thing to consider is that everyone camping with you must know to leave her alone.
Do you have anyone you would trust to come in and care for them once a day while you're gone?
If they came in at 3 pm daily they could take out the old food and put in the fresh. You can make their food up on plates ahead of time and keep them in the freezer.
So many options.
P.S. my gliders would come with, I travel with pregnant mommas all the time.

If you go with the pop-up travel cage (dog kennel) make sure you get it well before you go if you don't already have it. That way you can put them and there stuff in it in a controlled environment (your home) and see how they take to it and know if it is going to work for you or not. That is what I did before we took a long weekend this year with our new pets. It will also help to put their fleece and things in it to get their smell on it as well, again to help them acclimate.
The biggest problem I had with the pop up cage was feeding and water, we use bowls for both here at home in their cage, but the water bowl was to small for the pop-up and tipped over the first night. Easy fix, we just used a bigger, wider, heavier bowl and problem solved. But if you can do it for a true overnight in your home, just like you are not home, then you can learn these things as well. Better to deal with them while you can, before you go, then to be worried and trying to figure it all out while camping.

I wish I could take their regular cage but it's over 6 feet tall, I couldn't even fit it in my car lol That pop up kennel is a great idea though. I do have a smaller cage I usually travel with her in, but I'm not sure it is big enough for the both of them. I'm going to head to petsmart/petco today and see what they have. Thanks for the help!

Well it isn't that there isn't anyone home to take care of her, there is, but the problem is her attachment to me. Like I said, before I adopted Luka it was just me and lucy for three years. I have never traveled without her before, because she has bonded with me to the point where if I leave her alone for more than a day she'll stop eating. And even though she does have Luka now, I don't want to take the risk that she'll do the same thing, especially now that she has a joey IP. I will definitely make sure everyone leaves her alone. I'm a bit protective over her anyway so it won't be so different from normal travel lol I'm going to head to petsmart or petco today and pick out a soft kennel I like and start transferring some of their fleece into it and maybe give them some playtime in it tonight. Thank you so much for the great advice! Much appreciated!

You can use big safety pins on the outside of the pop-up and where the back of the pin is on the inside you can attach c- links to it and hang toys and pouches. Believe me, my 2 and then 3 stayed in a pop-up this past weekend, a 4 night stay and they were fine. Zoey was a little apprehensive about trying to climb up the space between the nylon floor and the section of mesh but she got the hang of it the second night and I put a vine in there to help her climb. They adapt super well so yours will be fine.

I love the idea of the safety pins Kris, I hadn't thought of that yet and will have to pick some up for future use.
