So I will be getting two new gliders in a few weeks and I have 2 spare cages. One isnt very big, I use it for my joeys while I'm monitoring them before they go to their new home. My other one is a little rusty, not much but enough to bother me. A year or so ago I read about sand blasting a rusty cage and repainting it so birds don't digest the rust. Now I am assuming what ever paint would be safe for birds would be safe for a glider. This cage is only temporary until the babies are old enough to go in with their mates. So, has anyone ever repaired a cage like this and if so can you explain it in a lot of detail please? I only want to do this if it is safe. I just lost one of my gliders and I do not want to lose anymore so I want them to be 110% safe. Thanks in advance! smile

I would think for a temporary cage, that sandblasting wouldn't be necessary, but you do have to make sure to sand it well so the paint sticks well.

Unless of course you plan on using it for a hospital / quarantine cage.

I believe if the paint is pet safe, would be fine for gliders, they don't chew necessarily, they rub their cloatia on it.

I have never done this. Sand blasting would be pricey but it would get in all the crevices. You are going to want an appliance paint. Once it is dry it will be very durable.

Hopefully someone that has refurbished a cage will see this post and comment.
