Hello, wanting to know how you all handle people and friends that come in and automatically wanna see, touch, hold your glider friend? I HATE when someone comes in and peers in the cage and says "get him out so we can see him. I wanna pet him... on and on." As adults you would think people would understand I'm not going to wake him up and just start showing him off. They don't seem to get that they're not like a dog or cat. How do you handle it? My brother in law just walked into the glider room and proceded to ask my hubby to show him the new glider, my hubby said " the wife deals with him more than I do so hes becoming more bonded to her then he said come get the glider out for him to see. I just told then we couldnt yet as he was not yet bonded to us. He looked at hubby and I like we had two heads. Sugiemom to Stuart

What your doing is the right thing. When I do educational venues we only take our most bonded, sweetest gliders as they will be "on" all day getting petted and fussed over. You could offer your gliders a treat through the bars of the cage so that your guests could see them, but I wouldn't let them out of the cage.

We didn't even tell people we had gliders for 6 weeks. We just didn't have anyone over except my daughter's friend. It helped that my parents-in-law were on an Amazon River cruise during that time.
My daughter's friend was a problem, but at 10 she won't go against me saying no. She just kept asking my daughter to ask me if we could get them out or lure them out with treats or peek in their sleeping pouch. It put my daughter in an awkward position, but at least I got to be the bad guy (always saying no) not her. I think the friend is still convinced that I hate her. She has been able to do a little bathroom time with them since then.
