As long as the smells are not too strong and you get candles with cotton wicks, zinc in the wick is harmful even to us, I think you will be fine.
I just got a essential oil diffuser to use in the apartment.

I just got a essential oil diffuser to use in the apartment. Thank you! I have some woodwick candles, so shouldn't be any zinc in them, plus they crackle when they burn :-)
