The diet study clarified some things about gliders and their diet. One thing was we shouldn't be blending their fruits and vegetables into a smoothy because that is forcing them to eat the insoluble fiber they would normally leave on the plate. I was at the OSGA in 2016 and what I took away from the diet talk was that Critterlove, BML, and the Pocket Pets diet were three of the best diets out there. The nutritionist didn't like the variables of the Pet Glider diet, specially the sprinkling on of the vitamins. They are starting up another diet study but I don't know what it is going to cover. I hope this helps you some. If you can, you should attend this years OSGA in Ohio. Very informative.

Pocket Pets diet as from Pocket Pets the mill? I was going to settle on TPG, but looks like I may need more research

Yes that diet is basically the same as a Critter Love diet, the Glider Gravy is Critter Love Complete (I believe) so it is very good. While most of us here do not agree with the way the business of Pocket Pets was run in the past they have done things to improve over the years. I am not advocating for them, just stating that they have tried to improve and their diet is definitely one place they have.

Did you mean the vets didn't like the pocket pet diet (not the pet glider)?

The Pet Glider (TPG) is a breeder that also came up with a popular diet refered to as TPG diet. That is the one that was being refered to by the comment you asked about. It is a common concern that if the vitamins are simply sprinkled on top of the food with multiple gliders in a cgae, all gliders may not get an equal share of them. The Pocket Pets diet is based on Peggy's Critterlove Complete, so the vitamins are already blended with the 'sauce.'

The TPG diet was found to be unbalanced. It also allows for too many variations such as flax seed OR wheat germ and both have a completely different set of nutrient levels. When replacing one thing with another, it should be very close in numbers or exact. Also the vitamins are Based on 3X BMR of humans, which is too much for a sugar glider. The Pocket Pets diet was found to be a good diet. Also, Pocket Pets is not a mill, they are a broker. Many of the gliders they purchase these days come from many different breeders across our country. Many of whom we all purchase gliders from. They just choose to remain confidential so they do not get blackballed within the community. So even the gliders, for the most part, are of better quality than they once were. The Critter Love® diets are the most extensively tested diet out there today. We are also the worlds leading sugar glider staple. We will continue to do our testing to make certain our products are the optimal choice for you to make so your gliders can be healthy, thrive and have very long lives.
