Hi everyone!! My name is Alan, and tonight I'll be possibly the new dad of 2 female joeys!! I have a smallish cage (only about 15 inches instead of 24 across) for the next few days while the HQ comes in from Amazon. I know it's tiny, but it's high and I figure might be a good cage if I have to visit my parents with them or separate them for health or something. The new one is large and should be here soon.

I got a wheel from Petsmart. I was seeing plastic wheels on here, and normally the 12 inch size. I just read a post, however, where it said a mesh wire wheel was better for them to hang on to? I have a hedgehog as well, and I tend to lean away from wire mesh wheels because of the toenails getting caught. Do I want the 12 inch size and a mesh one instead?

Right now I have a branch for them to climb on, clip on feeder bowls, water bottles, a hammock and sleep set from the breeder, their food mixing (which I will look into changing depending on what it is) and a vet appointment set up for Tuesday. I only say maybe I'll have them as I want to see how healthy they are and such, it's a lot of money and I want to make sure I'm investing properly.

Do you think I need anything else? Also toys I have a hanging plastic piece, some fleece pieces and a hanging rope loop, which I will watch for fraying. I'm just thinking of the wheel if it isn't right I would rather get the right one.

Sorry this is so long, I'm new with a TON of questions but I've been creeping here for a few weeks to see how everything goes and what to get.

I'm having trouble finding those wheels but I can find the stealth ones from their website. I see those mentioned. Do people go with the stealth or the magnum? I like the stealth because it has trim tracks available. Does fast track have those?

Also I want to see what they are being served now, but I've been trying to read up on different diets, and hearing a lot about HPW (I think that's the acronym). Along with fruit and veggies it seems to be a full meal. It's hard on these forums to see what there is but I also want to see what is being served, what the suggested stuff is out there and how they react before I go doing anything drastic....
If they don't have a wheel for a week while I order the correct one is it going to be really detrimental? I have a hard plastic one but it does have a post in the middle and why I'm hesitant to use it.....

Fast Track Wheels do have nail-trim-inserts. These are basically a kit that contains the sand paper and plastic nuts & bolts to hold them on.

I have had three Fast Track wheels and love them! I had two 12", but gave one away, and I have a 9" travel wheel. I'm considering getting a treadmill next.

As for diets, HPW now named Critter Love Original (CLO) is a good choice, I find it's very easy to obtain the ingredients, the Wombaroo High Protein Supplement (WHPS) and bee pollen online, I usually order from The Pampered Glider but there are other sites around that you can get supplies from. The rest of the ingredients (eggs, honey, & water) easy from the market.

As for your gliders not having a wheel for a little while is okay, just make sure there are plenty of activities for them. Look for reset toys and foraging toys. Fleece is a safe material for gliders. You can make toys easy from fleece by cutting them into long strips and making a braided rope. Once the rope is made use c-links to attach from one end to another, my gliders prefer the braided ropes over the fringy vines. You can use c-links also within the fleece ropes and attach toys from them. Another way to use braided ropes is to knot one end, braid it down but leave it dangle knot free at bottom and let them unbraid it.

A toy bin or ball pit is another easy toy, inexpensive as well. Get a plastic container, a basket, bowl, or any container large enough for them to climb in with toys. You can put in ping pong balls, small hard plastic toys s/a animals, army men or similar, plastic bracelets as well as others you can find. Most if not all of these items can be found in Dollar stores.

I recommend doing some searches for sugar glider toys, you can get a good idea of what can be used. You may want to make some, purchase some from vendors, or both. I love making toys, but have also purchased from vendors (toys I can't make but really like).

I have both wheel brands and the fastrack treadmill too. As far as the treadmill, both girls use it but I'm not sure how much as it is made well and you can't tell when they are on it unless their nails need trimmed.
