I have been reading all the posts here, so I know the basics, I'm more just looking at the next best steps.
My 2 joeys are about 5 days in. I usually can get them to go to their
bonding bag, but they are reluctant and crab almost constantly until I've completely stopped moving with them. I can pick them up with a fleece, but one of them still crabs and lunges to bite no matter what, while the other seems more laid back. I did sit in the tub with them, the crabbing one didn't come out but the other did for about 5 minutes of exploring time before going back into the pouch to bother her sister.
I have been thinking of trying the fist, but I tried it once and got a little nibble on my hand from the lunging one and so I'm terrified now. Compounding this is one won't take treats, just attacks my hand, so getting that one to stop crabbing and relax and not bite is tough. I've been trying the tsk tsk as I put treats in if she tries to go for the fingers.
All of this is made slightly more difficult by the Giardia meds that I give them which they HATE. Trying to disassociate myself with the syringe haha. They seem to have no issue with my taking their empty food dishes back for the night but the minute they see or hear me, even asleep in their pouch, they are up in the defensive stance on their back legs crabbing. I know we have to go at their pace and I just keep giving treats, I just don't want to miss an opportunity but also don't want to overwhelm them. It's been a big week, and the cage I ordered got lost in transit, so they are in a smaller harder to reach cage and had the
vet and Giardia.....it's been quite a week for them.
I'm sorry if this is all copy and paste for others, it's just a constant point of worry for me during the day as I already have a hedgehog who hates me I don't wanna miss these important times haha.
