My mosaic male's tail seems like it's thinning out. His tail just isn't very fluffy any more. His cage mates tail seems completely fine. I also owns his parents and his mom's tail is doing something similar to his but not near to the extent that his is. But dad and his sister have no problems. Any idea what could be causing this or how to get this tail back to normal?
Here is a picture of his mom and you can see that her tail looks thinner. She is blind in one eye due to a scratch that she some how got a few years back. After many vet visits and eye drops, she is blind in that eye.
The first picture is the male that I was talking about in the original post. His tail is not over groomed in one spotted but the hair on it is just so thin looking that you can see his pink skin under the fur and he does have some over grooming around his eyes. Second picture is his cage mate just to show that she isn't over grooming.
It could be diet related, I know that the first diet study didn't analyze the LGR suggie soup.
You may want to try switching diets for a while to see if the hair comes in better.
BML and Critterlove have both been tested and Critterlove continues to be tested. I would choose one of those diets and follow it as written. Give it at least 6 months to see if the tail hair thickens.
They could be missing something in their diet, usually the over grooming I have seen the area is bald.
Please keep us posted on their progress.
